Why You Feel So BROKE

    Atomic Habits: amzn.to/3Y2gAAV
    The Psychology Of Money: amzn.to/3kzmRp0
    Weapons of Math Destruction: amzn.to/3VWHjx1
Despite how crazy the world is, now is probably the best time in history to be alive because of all of the advancements over time. We have grocery stores, modern medicine, and less physical jobs; however, despite this, many people feel "poor."
In this video I argue that, "The reason we feel poor is more about mindset than money." If we can change our mindset a little bit, then we will realize how rich we actually are. And I give, "6 Reasons Why You Feel So Poor."
    1. You’re Taking Everything For Granted
We often focus on the things that we don't have instead of the things we do have. We take some of the biggest advancements like clean drinking water, plumbing, and modern medicine for granted. We have this sense of entitlement and solely focus on the things that we don't have. Instead of taking what we have for granted, we need to appreciate the things we do have.
    2. You’re Choosing The Wrong TV Programs
The average American watches 3 hours of TV a day and when you consume that much TV, the programs you choose subconsciously influence you in what to believe and what is important. If you consume TV programs that play of envy and the superficial, then you are probably going to feel poor due to comparison. Instead of watching any TV program, we need to guard what comes in our mind and not be influenced.
    3. You’re Idolizing The Wrong People
We often idolize rich people and act as if since they have big houses and nice cars that they are better than us. Then, we act as if we're poor because we are not living such a luxurious lifestyle. Instead of idolizing extremely rich people who live superficial lives, we need to ask ourselves, "What is important," and not pursue this false, superficial image of happiness.
    4. You’re Think Wants Are Needs
The cost of living has increased throughout the last hundred years, but one of the biggest reasons that life is more expensive nowadays is because there is more to buy. Now that we have so many things that we can spend our money on that we start confuse wants for needs. We act as if we need a new smartphone or a new car, and if we do not have that stuff then we are poor. Instead of confusing wants are needs, focusing on knowing the difference and view wants are extra.
    5. You Think You Can Have It All
Life is about trade offs. There will never be a moment in life where you will stop having problems. Whatever you decide to do in life will come with strings attached. For example, if you want more free time, then you will probably be making less money. Many people, however, think that they can have it all and when they don't, then they feel poor and they're depriving themselves. Instead of thinking you can have it all, prioritize what you want because everything comes at a cost.
    6. You’re Simply Not Content
In our society we are constantly seeking more: bigger houses, nicer cars, and more things. And this constant pursuit of more really represents our lack of contentment. We believe that by accumulating a bunch of things that it will make us happier; however it doesn't work. It just becomes this never ending pursuit of more that makes you feel less content. Instead of seeking contentment through material possessions, seek contentment though less.
And if you can figure out how to be content with less, it doesn't matter how much money you have because you will be the richest person on Earth.

That was lovely. It isn't just TV shows and films. Sometimes even other individuals appearance in a workplace or school they might lead you to buy something because now "you like it"... Been a minimalist since I was 18. It feels amazing. Stuff doesn't buy you contentment. It only buys those few minutes of excitement before unpacking the thing. Five minutes after, we think about our next "need". Thanks for sharing, Augustine.

Electricity and warm homes are wonderful. My husband repairs and replaces our well, or parts of it, every other year. My heart stops for half a second if the pump doesn't kick in soon enough. Trust me, I appreciate my well which brings in clean water. I love my little house. I love that it's almost paid off. It's a glorious feeling. Debt makes me feel poor.

Most people who you think have money, which is based on the most superficial and materialistic qualities, are the most in debt. Period. On the other hand, that guy who drives that beater and wears kinda raggedy clothes? Yeah, he could have zero debt with a lot of savings. Imagine if we "idolized" the latter instead of what television and social media tells us to.

Thank you so much! These have been a Godsend! Lightbulbs: #3- idolizing can also lead to poor self esteem along with feeling poor (eg comparisons)~ and those people you do idolize, perhaps consider what their trade-offs are in order to have that kind of life. Is that trade off something that I'm willing to make? Does it line with my values and what I desire for my life? #5/6 when you trade off, you can actually discover the things that have more value that perhaps have been hidden among all the clutter

Could you relate each idea back to how you implemented it in your own life, or even how a friend or another person (like an author, entrepreneur, etc.) implemented it? Great message Augustine, and eloquently stated. But oh - the irony! An ad cut in. Right in the middle of your passionate explanation of needs vs wants, your words were abruptly cut off and a perky voice said “Did you know Hobby Lobby has hundreds of incredible things on sale every week?” I could not stop laughing.

I miss different environments for the videos. I remember the hiking trip and when your car broke down.
