  • This film shows the light rail system of of Salt Lake City, Utah. The system consists of three lines that are operated by Siemens SD100, SD160, and more recent S70 (Siemens Avanto) vehicles.
    The locations shown in the film are close to Downtown in Salt Lake City's free fare zone. We start at Courthouse Station in perfect sunny weather, but as the film progresses the weather deteriorates quickly. Towards the end, we see some trams in the rain.
    Index:

    I love the way the S70 sounds, especially when it's coming to a stop.

    Τέτοια τάξη, τέτοια "αλφαδιά" δεν έχω ξαναδεί! Πρέπει να μας βοηθήσετε κι εμάς στην Ελλάδα να αναδιοργανώσουμε τις γραμμές light rails είτε αυτές που έχουμε ήδη σε λειτουργεία ή ακόμα πιο δύσκολα εκείνες που έχουμε εγκαταλείψει. Πολύ ωραία και εξαιρετικά καθαρά και τα παλαιότερα οχήματα! Απογοητεύτηκα που είναι γερμανικά! Νόμιζα ότι ήταν κατασκευασμένα στo USA!

      Translation: I have never seen such a class, such a "spirit level"! You must help us in Greece to reorganize the light rails, either the ones we already have in operation or even more difficult the ones we have abandoned. Very nice and extremely clean and older vehicles! I was disappointed that they are German! I thought they were made in the USA!

    Very cool video. I've ridden Salt Lake's system. always wondered what the 2nd pantograph is for on some of the SD160s....is it to remove ice build up?

    • @coasterworld9448
      @coasterworld9448 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it was something they added to them when in making them, but they dont need it so its not in use, they just have the right amount of electricity for the trams without it, because the SD160s are pretty old.

      You actually are correct about ice. The first pantograph that you see down on some of the cars is an ice cutter. It doesn't assist with electrical at all.

    While visiting in 2005, our hotel was right next to the Temple Square station, so we used it everyday. On my tenth birthday, we rode the entire line from Temple Square to Sandy (this was before it was the Blue Line and before it was extended to Draper and the intermodal hub; trains terminated at Sandy Civic Center or Arena, and 900 South was under construction). Also, the Red Line was the University Line that ran from Arena to the university, the S70 cars were not yet in service (let alone ordered), the Green Line was non-existent, and FrontRunner had just started construction.
    And what's with Wicked playing at 8:09?

      BNSF1995 Yes! They played it often in public when Wicked was in Salt Lake City to promote it.

    The Siemens SD100 and SD160 vehicles are the same ones used in Denver. I wish Denver had the more modern looking S70 vehicles. The look cooler.

      @@QuarioQuario54321 The SD-100's are also wheelchair accessible from the high block and manual ramp. The low floor entry on the S70 is nice, though.

    Minor Preference, doch es gibt auch Busse, allerdings habe ich die nicht gefilmt. Eine Einzelfahrt kostet $2.50, aber die Mitfahrt mit der Tram ist im Innenstadtbereich komplett kostenlos.
