I heavily recommend the DX patch for this game. It recolors the entire game gorgeously, making it look more beautiful than any other 2D platformer imo.
Here's a question I've always wondered about: Does Mario 3D Land count as part of the Mario Land series? I mean Wario Land is Mario Land 3, and that's a huge departure from Mario Land 2, heck 2 is even a huge departure form Mario Land 1; it's not like the Land series ever had one distinct style that all entries in the series stuck to at all.
I have never thought of this, but it is actually mind blowing. I guess I never associated 3d land with the other land games because of it being 3d, but as you said, there is not criteria among the existing games in the series besides the word "land". Its kind of like Yoshi's island being Super Mario world 2, thus making it super Mario bros 5.
@@8.8.8.9 I would say the only criteria that holds true for the Land games is that they released exclusively to a Nintendo handheld, and 3D Land is no exception to that one rule.
@@BlinksAwakening Well, Wario land Shake it released on the Wii, but your point still stands as 3D land could have been something of a return to the original concept for the land series, being on a handheld.

@@BlinksAwakening That makes sense. I would never consider Yoshi's new island to be Super Mario Bros. 6, I just wish it there was more lineage to it instead of the sequel of a sequel being considered unrelated to the first game.

I also really like WL1, it has some really cool gambling mechanics that could almost turn the player into Wario. For example, you have to activate the checkpoints the coins in this game, but you can also choose to be greedy
Mario Land 1 was probably the first video game I've ever played and that was all the way back in 1990. I was 5 years old at the time and I had no prior knowledge of Mario lore, yet the game felt completely off, for some reason that I can't explain. Even back then it felt like a fever dream and it was my first foray into nitnendo and gaming in general.

I grew up on the rerelease on 3DS alongside 3D Land. Let me just say that it’d be fun to see how its approach to worlds should be done again.
