- It's been a long while since the Super Mario Bros movie released in theatres to resounding success. since then, there has been constant debate on if the movie good or bad. I'm here to share my thoughts about the mpvie and why it's such a good adaption but a bad movie.

This movie is a confusing one because as an adaptation, it is probably the best one from a videogame to a film. However as an actual film, it definitely suffer for a lot of issues like pacing, lack of character interaction, and developed arcs that should’ve expand more on these iconic characters. The pop music is definitely jarring when you got the actual game music which is outstanding; hearing Take on Me or Mr. Blue Sky feels way off for this film. This film is far from perfect, hell it’s not even that great as a film and to an extent an adaptation as well, but I’ll always have a blast watching this film despite the horrible flaws it has. The hype for this film is one I’ll always treasure and glad to be a Mario fan because the hype was immense, and I’m happy I was along for the ride.
As a whole, the film is a 7/10 however, I can absolutely see average moviegoers giving it lower like a 5 because it really doesn’t anything outstanding, and can be quite a generic film without the Mario aspects.
i know i’m late on this but in Illumination’s defense there’s not much you could really do to make a good story based off Mario considering majority of his game don’t have that much to it. sure you have the 64, Galaxy and Odyssey series but their story mainly focuses on characters like Rosalina and Cappy. however with the main characters like Mario, Peach, and Bowser they’ve always ended having the same type of personality for years now, well.. sometimes Bowser in that RPG game but that’s a rare case bc we’ll probably not see that again yet. still, this may not be a perfect game adaptation film but it’s definitely fun and doesn’t deserve the harsh “criticism” that Rotten Tomatoes gave. also i’d like to point out something about how Mario fans keep comparing the Sonic movies, to their film. see, the key difference is obviously that Sonic actually had lore from the games so that both regular audiences and Sonic fans could understand and have a new era of Sonic the hedgehog himself, compared that to Mario, Sonic had a shit ton of lore that can be easy to understand of how world works
I’d say this movie is a perfect adaptation, just not at all a perfect movie.
mario movie 2 should have kevin afghani voicing cameo side characters including marios dad replacing charles just like the first movie and i want mario to marry peach in the sequel but idk why mario odyssey had peach rejecting him that was a stupid ending

not gonna lie,. when i watched the movie i was zoned out for about half of it because it broke my brain (in a bad way), to me it just felt like a bunch of random things happening for no particular reason, but i guess it's good that other people can get something out of it that i couldn't
