    This remix was like a religious experience the first time I heard it. I cannot believe how theatrical this song sounds now. I think you’ll like the new Micro Cuts a lot :)

    The string you say are ‘cut’ in the middle randomly are actually one of the best changes of dynamics I’ve heard in my life. I absolutely love this remix

    Definetly my favorite of this remix.
    I have relistened to the original and the strings in the second verse are there! I've never heard them before the remix

      I think it's similar to the citizen erased outro, matt felt the phasing effect was removing from the effect of the strings and piano and everything so he remove it and now you can hear a lot more of the strings and everything

    First upload was blocked for copyright - I've been wanting to make less cuts in my videos for a really long time and it's really unfortunate that I seem to never be able to get around the flagging system without way too many cuts... Oh well...

      @@LabradorIndependent Micro Cuts was my only disappointment on this remix. The harpsichord takes over the flow and the punchiness of the bass which gets pushed back so they lose the punchy start/stop feel in verse of the drums and bass. But hey, that's just my opinion. I think lots of others really enjoy it.

    After listening to this, I went to the original song and noticed that the strings were there all along! I never noticed them before.

  • @johnnojojack-exe

    That section of the song, with the addition of the string instrument, reminds me of Bloodborne. Its like the song has this sort of horror spring out of it as if it went into second phase, lol.

    The "strings" are in the original mix, but I think they are a lower quality synth and are much further back in the mix, plus the original mix is so compressed that it's hard to pick out. But now that you know what to look for, you can hear them there. It seems they may have updated the string plugin, but then also brought it up in the mix.

    • @jonnykhatru
      @jonnykhatru 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They used real strings, recorded at Abbey Road.

    • @stonecrier6891
      @stonecrier6891 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonnykhatru Cool! It was definitely a synth in the original. I remember how lackluster string synths were back in 2001. The reason I assumed they used a synth again was because of the abrupt cutoff that matched the original. Good info though. Thank you!

    I'm late to the party, I know they have been out for a long time...but I recently discovered Blonde Redhead. I don't know how much you get into Indie Rock but I have enjoyed your reactions and I thought to recommend them. Start on the album Misery is a Butterfly, Fake Can Be Just As Good, Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons, and 23. Each of those has a different feel and identity with 23 being the most pop accessible and Fake Can be Just As Good feeling the most gritty and indie...Misery is a Butterfly is just a beautiful album. Anyway...I will check out your music as well. Peace.

    As far as I know everything you hear was recorded during the OoS sessions. Some things were just removed/buried in the final mix (e.g. the strings in the third verse of this, and the harpsichord in Micro Cuts). Rich Costey specifically said nothing has been re-recorded.

  • @RyuMasterEX

    Using a very high end setup, I dunno, I'm in love with the original. The remix is too clinical, way too much force it doesn't melt as well. All that clarity boost people want is already there for me. But on standard equipment the added bite is welcome. It's like the new is live recording vs the original being metaphysical, is just has that charm...or maybe it's just nostalgia. Similar thing with OK computer

      I'm not a big fan of remasters tbh. I hated the Beatles remasters, especially the white album one, they made the bass too loud. Likewise Nirvana, Radiohead, I think its new enough not to need a remaster, that's why this is called a "remix". The best remaster I heard was of Loveless but I can't really tell the difference, plus you actually got 2 separate remasters... I need to find my CD of OOS to hear it properly again

  • @Tocaraca
    @Tocaraca 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I really don’t like how the piano is so much quieter during the verses. Makes the ending of the verse sound anticlimactic. The bass is super loud but the bassline itself goes really low there which takes out a lot of the oomph of the prechorus

    I completely agree with how the added string addition “cuts off” and sounds a bit awkward. I sort of wish Muse let the strings overhang a bit to allow a smoother transition leading up to the chorus. It was an amazing remaster though, and love your honest review!

    Citizen Erased is actually my least favourite of the remixes. I don't like the phasing removal and some of his voice in the last part. Also the delicate guitar solo before the 2nd verse, I much prefer the sound of it in the original.
    I love mostly everything else they've done with the album though.

  • @fentolix5973

    I found it weird how the strings cut out from the 3rd verse to the chorus. It seems like such an obvious oversight but the strings do sound awsome

  • @Frantixj

    To me the remix is a bit botched, the distortion at 2:19 sounds accidental not intentional (I know Matt likes to distort stuff but ... nuh uh). There's still a lot of noise in the song and I get it's an oldie and maybe not everything was possible to clean up but.... Also, not sure about the initial piano "sizzle". I guess it's ok.
    It's even more disappointing because some fragments of the song are actually done in a great way, the crisp drums, the bass, the background violin... and it applies to a few other songs like Megalomania, Micro Cuts. I like what they did to a few songs but some of them seem a bit ruined (not entirely, just a bit).

    • @Meccarox
      @Meccarox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah there’s a few weird things that seem out of place and poorly executed in some of these remixes. Idk
