  • Let’s make sure we get that oil sling installed correctly on the Honda 305 CB77 motorcycle. Nuances matter! Big thanks to the K.O.W. Community for the assist.

    ‼️Actually it’s both. I’ve opened three of these that were NEVER opened or cleaned before and they ALL have two DIFFERENT washers, one for the inside and one for the outside of the shaft.
    Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve found a big error in their diagrams from that era.

      It was a deep dive for sure with lots of conflicting info. Two makes sense. I think I landed on this based on Bill Silver’s input. I have another 305 to year into, I’ll be looking closely when I do. Nuances definitely matter!

    The CB175 also has countersunk screws in a similar position, they have small O rings under the head to stop any oil leakage. This looks very similar, why else would Honda use a different type of screw? If it weeps oil there's your answer.

      Yup. The books had conflicting info. It was a puzzlement

    Why bother with that,just install the Cappellini Filter. No more chain and better oil Filter!

      That’s always an option too but I think this will be just fine as originally designed.

    With the washer/shim at the wrong place, you should be able to see a slight mis-alignment of the filter chain.
    Also, tightening crankshaft end nuts with a shock spanner is not good enough. I use a medium-size battery impact gun
    - I have a good feel of mine, not to worry. BTW I used to ride a CB77 back in '67-'70, would sell my soul to get a good one today.
    Please double-check all the engine bolts torque values.

    Nice video ,i think you are correct ,there should be an other washer on behind ,or the does the the assembly spin against the shoulder without the the washer ?

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right? Nowhere are two referenced tho. I’ll trust Bill Silver on this one.

    I second that...why not 2 washers?? ...one on the inside to protect the case and one at the pin?

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dunno. I’m gonna trust Mr. Honda Bill Silver on this one.

      The washer was actually on the inside when I took it apart.

      Just gotta remove the 3 JIS on the cover, pull it..get the snap ring out, pull the cover and clean the interior of the barrel. Reassemble.
