Austronesian peoples is a population in Oceania and Southeast Asia that speaks languages of the Austronesian family. Austronesian peoples include: Taiwanese aborigines; the majority ethnic groups of East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Madagascar, Micronesia, and Polynesia, as well as the Polynesian peoples of New Zealand and Hawaii, and the Austronesian peoples of Melanesia. The territories settled by Austronesian peoples are known collectively as Austronesia. Austronesian peoples originated on the island of Taiwan, and are spread as far away as Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, Easter Island, Maritime Southeast Asia, New Zealand, and to the rest of the Pacific Islands. This video may also be a video presentation for students of primary and secondary schools.. :)

I know it's hard to see us Pacific Islanders as being a part of South East Asia, but it's a fascinating history, particularly the aborigine tribes there. I have been to Malayasia & Thailand, and there is a weird physical similarity with the indigenous Austronesian people. They too were also head hunters, their numbers and many words are the same, and why we are called Austronesian. Most nowadays have mixed with a more recent Chinese migration, but the tribes are still there and they are amazing.

Would have love to see Singapore in here. Even though now Chinese-majority, historically and geographically it's Malay. The Malay community - at around 12 - 15 percent of the population - still speak Malay and practices Malay culture. And Malay is the national language of Singapore and constitutionally, Malays are recognised as the indigenous population of the state.

we all came from the same ancestors - the AUSTRONESIAN RACE -
    -Madagascar
-the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, some people of vietnam and cambodia - the whole Pacific islands!
if u look back in the history before those countries were colonized they belong to the group of people called the AUSTRONESIAN!

In Taiwan, there are more tribes and racial differences than the photos shown here. I have seen native Formosans from looking like East Asian to looking like Maori physically.

I'm proud of the Austronesian race but what I really hate is people keep saying Filipinos pacific islanders even though we're Asians. I hate it when people say Asians are only slant eyed people. (even though my eyes are slant but it's still not fair) Asia is a continent.

The Minahasan people are mostly related to the Philippines & other Austronesian nations.

@vanLzjk I am from Madagascar myself and learned in HS that M/scar has seen the arrival of navigators many centuries ago, apparently from some parts of Sumatra, malaysia, Java and Borneo. Those people are now called the 'Merina' and occupy the central high plateau of the island of Madagascar. The remaining parts are being occupied by other ethnic groups originating from mainly Africa.
The interesting part is that no one knows for sure When, nor why, nor How 'merina' ancestors reached M/scar

thank you very much for the information.
Some believe that the native tribes in northeast India (Nagaland,Assam, Manipur,Chitagong etc) spreading into today's southern China (Yunnan province etc), are related to the East Asian/ South East Asian (particularly Burma).
Some say that they are the lost Mongolian tribes/descendants.
    e.g: Burmese, Tibetans, Bhutanese
Do the origin of the name "Himalaya" Range in Nepal-Tibet border have something to do with the name "Malaya"/"Malay"?

It seems to be the video-makers don't have enough insight about East Timor. I can notice from the photos that appeared in the video. How can I believe that those countries mentioned in the video are Austronesian Territories, do you have any prove which based on any research. I know a little bit history about East Timor language and some Timorese linguists indicates that East Timor's languages (Tetum and other dialects) are a branch of Austronesian. I would impress if you give me any evidence.

However, what we know is that sometime in the past, some people crossed the indian ocean with boats - which have not been found - and went back and forth - by using wind - between Asia and this island located off of Africa. However, no physical proffs have been found however studies regarding for purpose of genetic comparisons, language comparison have been conudcted and were found to suggest that there seems to be a highly probable familiarity between Indonesians and the Merina of Madagascar.

@NirinaGasikara Bantu migration actually was not from West Africa to East Africa, hon. Our traditions in the african interior consistently say we traveled into Africa from the EAST/Northeast-not vice versa.
East in Africa is the sacred direction.
Be careful what you claim. Don't just parrot incorrect data of our histories fabricated by the western world. We also have always had the "Wazimba/Vasimba" ethnic group in the mainland. V and W are often interchangeable.
