My father was upset when Goldberg streak ended because my dad from 1996- 2001 my father was a Goldberg fan thats how he got back to loving wrestling james because of Goldberg
WCW/nWo Starrcade 1998 is an okay show. Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Billy Kidman vs Juventud Guerrera is a great match. Billy Kidman vs Eddie Guerrero is a very good match. Chris Jericho vs Konnan is a solid match. DDP vs The Giant is a solid match. Goldberg vs Kevin Nash is a good match. Unpopular Opinion: Kevin Nash was the right person to end the streak and Starrcade was the right place to do it. You could of make an argument for DDP, but no one would have been talking about DDP ending the streak like they do when Kevin Nash did it. Think about it, Kevin Nash did something that Hollywood Hogan couldn't do that's beat Goldberg, which help the nWo Civil War story progress. It added more intrigued into the fans wanting to love Goldberg again because they were booing him at Starrcade. Plus, this was a setup for Goldberg to go through the entire nWo to regain back the World Heavyweight Title at Spring Stampede. It's just that everyone got injured and it ruin the plan.
I always forgot to bring up how WCW seemed to love having people work double duty. It seemed almost exacerbated during the late 90s. Booker T at Superbrawl earlier in the year might've been the most impressive cause it wasn't the original plan. As far as producing quality in back to back matches, Kidman was arguably the best to do it and by far having the best stuff on this card.
If you want to blame someone for all of this, blame WCW. They hadn't built up anyone credible (outside of Steiner who wasn't there yet) and the chance they had (DDP) was passed up; for a strong champion, you need a depth of challengers. Nash was the only logical choice at that point BUT I hate the way it happened.
Well, it would have been 16 months too early, but David Arquette could have ended the streak! JK!!! Honestly, there really wasn't going to be anyone in WCW to end the streak outside of one of the big established names (Nash, Sting, Hogan, etc). Creative was holding down the less famous, but just as talented (in some cases) wrestlers at the time. I'm not sure there was anyone that would have ended it that Goldberg fans would have been happy with. I still think DDP beating Goldberg would have been cool, but ending it like they did in the controversial fashion was the best way to do it if they weren't going to let DDP win.
As a fan, it’s easy for me to say no it wasn’t the right time in the streak of Goldberg. At the same time, though, had they continued it, there were a smattering of booze for Goldberg, depending on who he was facing. Kevin Nash was super popular at the time, so it’s not surprising. A lot of fans were cheered Nash. I personally still say diamond Dallas page but you’re right about that. At that point, who would he have had the face as world champion of a rematch against Goldberg? So you would’ve had the same issue there. Favorite match was definitely the opener. The cruiserweights provided their highflying action, but also showed they could tell a story when given the opportunity. Guilty pleasure match Hass to be Ric Flair versus Eric Bischoff. I was not expecting a great match but for me, it was very entertaining!
Hopefully you will do an episode of Goldberg in WCW 1997-2001 I wanna know your thoughts on his heel turn in 2000, WCW missed a decent feud between Jericho/Goldberg and etc. I feel like either DDP or Bret Hart should have ended the streak Imo but then again it would have did nothing for DDP like you said in this video and HH 98 review if WCW didn’t drop the ball with Bret Hart and if he was healthy then I could see him beating Goldberg to end the streak. Kevin Nash ending the streak is alright Imo my bad for making this long response to answer your question about Goldberg streak ending and great video like always Mr. James💯
Also you are right WCW Management didn't book Goldberg World Title Run that Great. Firstly, Goldberg didn't had any proper feud. Secondly, Comparing 97 Sting vs 98 Goldberg- Sting is challenger but he was a chaser fighting Hogan for the World Title and for WCW that was a Mega Feud and WWF were losing in Viewership Battle. 98 Goldberg didn't have any feud with NWO Hogan and he just got the World Title because of Ratings Boost where WCW beat WWF from July to October 1998 in Viewership but thats it other than that Goldberg first beat Curt Hennig, then was a part of Battle Royal then he miss Fall Brawl then had a Great Halloween Havoc Main Event Match against DDP which was half cut and re-telecast on Nitro which they drew 7.2 Million Viewers which was WCW Highest Rated viewership segment. Miss WCW World War 3 PPV and had Starrcade match against Kevin Nash where Streak Ended. But to be fair 97 Sting had no direct competition against WWF as they were beating WWF on a consistent basis because of NWO Hogan. 98 Goldberg had a Direct Competition against WWF with the likes of Austin, Mr McMahon, Undertaker, Rock and others. But Goldberg still able to outdrew Hogan, Austin, Undertaker, Rock, Mr McMahon in a Viewership Battle and beat Hogan, NWO, Sting, Ric Flair and others in a Viewership. But Goldberg run wasn't that Great.
Because the Kilque were known for that kind of thing. Mainly hhh and Shawn and Nash was friends with both. It also wasn't that unlikely with the main event guys considering Hogan was involved.
In the years since this PPV aired, it surprises me that Goldberg losing the title to put an end to his undefeated streak happened to be on his birthday (though I'm sure it had to be a coincidence). The thought of Nash accomplishing something no one else in the locker room did just to forfeit the title to Hulk Hogan in a sold out venue feels absurd. Who else would do what Nash did in-character wise? Grievance aside, the nWo reunion at the Georgia Dome gave them juice in the ratings. Goldberg plowing through all the nWo members was a good idea on paper. While injuries from top names played a part in the storyline fizzling out, one thing to also point out is the sudden change in creative direction. Ric Flair who became WCW President goes mentally insane to a point where he ends up turning heel in becoming an evil authority figure. Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan randomly turn baby face even despite the Fingerpoke and assaulting Flair endlessly in the middle of nowhere with all of the other nWo guys. It's like WCW now has to deal with something else besides the nWo. I could see why some folks tune out by the summer of 1999. It's unfortunate considering how impactful the nWo angle was for WCW to become the hottest wrestling company in the world.
@@WeAreProWrestling Wow, I was not aware of that. I know what it's like to lose a parent as well and it's very sad to hear. My heart goes out to him and his loved ones.
Alot of people say Starrcade 1997 was the beginning of the end for WCW, and I guess in a way it was. However, the mishandling of everything post Starrcade 1998 was really where everything sank to new lows. Goldberg loses the title, the nWo reforms through the Fingerpoke of Doom nonsense, and Hogan gets back on top. Obviously, this should lead to Goldberg tearing through the nWo to get to Hogan again at lets say Bash at the Beach, Halloween Havoc, or Starrcade of 1999. None of that happened and everything just devolved into a total mess.
The card we got at Halloween Havoc Hall vs Nash Bret Hart vs Sting Hogan vs Warrior DDP vs Goldberg With DDP ending the Streak Plus add Eric Bischoff vs Ric Flair Anything involving the CW's Should of been the card we got at Starracde after all it is there biggest show of the year Hindsight 20/20 If Goldberg's Streak should of ended it should of ended at a big show DDP should of been the one who ended the Streak at Starracde DDP was super over in 1998
I think the major issue with Goldberg is it was always going to be difficult to have a wrestler who is incapable of having long matches be over in the main event scene for a long period of time.
Questions 1. Did you think that the streak was also the beginning of wcw downfall or some other stuff 2. Was this the weakest starrcade ppv card 3. What would happen if flair went back to wwf in 1998
1. The beginning of the downfall of WCW started with the Turner/Time Warner merger in 1996(finalized in 1998) 2. 1994 has the weakest card in Starrcade history(Hogan/Beefcake as the Main Event; need I say more) 3. I don't know
To be fair it sounds like you're saying starrcade 94 is the weakest card due to the main event. May I remind you of starrcade 90. I know that was a memorial cup, but damn those tag matches were terrible. Then we get that horrible main event with the reveal of Flair being the scorpion. Which meant Flair could not be himself cause he was wearing a mask.
Kevin Nash ending the streak was the right call. Looking back in hindsight who else was booked legit enough to do so? Nash won WW3 where I believe he got a good amount of eliminations plus he ended Wrath’s undefeated streak in the building up. WCW in 98 saw Luger start his downfall, Bret was a non-factor in the main event scene. DDP was already beaten so how do you make sense of him winning a rematch. Steiner and Booker were only starting to find their footing as singles hot shooting them would’ve failed.
While I agree with what your saying, and yes I do believe it was the right time for Goldberg's streak to end... its hard for me to believe that Kevin Nah, who was helping with booking decisions and friends with Bishoff, and a very influential person backstage at that time whether good or bad, didn't have a hand in making himself the person. And I think if you listen to Goldberg's interviews, that is where his frustration lies. I believe if it was anyone else (like a Diamond), it would have been a different story, but, perception is reality, and the reality is Kevin had stroke and did not like Goldberg and didn't see what the big deal was about him... So why would he not want to have a hand in ending his streak?
Also I think they should have Goldberg be WCW US Champion and challenge Hogan for WCW World Heavyweight Championship Title at WCW Starrcade 1998 where they would have done Great in Business and probably would have beaten the previous Starrcade 1997 PPV Buys if their feud started after WCW Bash at the Beach 1996. But this was WCW's decision.
12:45 QUESTION: What do you mean by angle style matches? I ask because if angle-style matches are not for main events of PPVs, doesn't that happen more often times than not in the history of wrestling PPVs?
Oddly, they never ran a rematch between Hogan and Goldberg. That would've made a lot of money. While Goldberg losing was the right decision WCW could've gotten more mileage from having a dominant babyface champion for a time. It seemed he had a worse run than Warrior did as World Champ. After the whole 'drunk angle" WCW could've turned Hall babyface and tried to tell the story of him trying to be on his own "The Long Wolf" to better himself. That would gain him some sympathy to the point where he could be a good contender for Goldberg. After he loses then you could have the heel turn where he costs Golberg. Same endpoint, but you get more storylines and possible matches before it happens.
@@WeAreProWrestling Darn, because that would have been a great topic, IMHO, not just from the WWF and WCW side, but also because of what happened in a different promotion on that day.

Watching reliving the war back going all the way to when goldbergs streak started wcw didn't really give him any proper feuds as world champion. And I said that on one of wrestling bios ppv reviews I think it was world War 3 that goldbergs title reign felt like an after thought and he was just there while occasionally beating random jobbers and some big stars here and there with little to no build. This was wcws fault for letting that happen and had they did enough with his world title reign maybe we would remember the streak and world title reign at the same time very fondly as opposed to just the streak.
I would say this Goldberg in my opinion is top 5 WCW World Heavyweight Champion with the likes of Flair, Sting, Vader, Hogan and Goldberg. Top 5 WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Goldberg was a better WCW World Champion than Booker-T, Scott Steiner, Lex Luger, Ron Simmons and others. These are my thoughts. What is your opinion on this?
Ric Flair should have won the match. Bischoff’s gonna rely on backdoor shenanigans to gain the upper hand and after a bunch of Bischoff-patented BS, the Four Horsemen show up to neutralize Bischoff’s goons and Ric Flair makes Bischoff taps out, allowing Flair to seize victory and redemption and as for Bischoff, he’s kicked out from WCW!
@@WeAreProWrestling it would be good to see Flair beat Bischoff at the biggest show in WCW, not the next night. Why didn’t the Four Horsemen show up to stop Mr Perfect when he tried to interfere?!

@@WeAreProWrestling it would be good to see Flair beat Bischoff at the biggest show in WCW, not the next night.
Why didn’t the Four Horsemen show up to stop Mr Perfect when he tried to interfere?!
@@Mickey-v7p The Horsemen were kayfabe barred from the building
Had Goldberg drop the belt to nash just for hogan to be champ again, typical nwo bs.....nobody had memorable world title reigns during the nwo era
And the plan afterwards was for Goldberg to go through all of them to get to Hogan again, beat Hogan again, & get another run with the belt
But when Hall & Luger got injured in early 99 those plans got scrapped
It was a shit show
