This video made me feel like we all try to survive wherever we are. Even in spite of the fact that the house is small and there is no place to walk - we still live here. Even in spite of the fact that streets are so narrow that even a dog sits still and knows it’s place - we still live here. I am not from Brazil. I am in another part of the Earth, but we are in the same situation, small place to live, narrow streets, mountains and rivers, streets are dirty sometimes but we live here and love this place. It is difficult to make money, you always have to pay the bills but I love my place so much and I am sure the Brazilian do. Love you guys. We are all children of the Earth.

These idiots come here to show only this side of the country as if only in Brazil these things happen. Why don't they show the misery in a certain country in North America know as the "most powerful country on Earth". Time to get out here and bother somebody else or find another way to make money. Not at our expenses and in this way.

@34bz Brazil is indeed dangerous, as every country has its good and bad sides, especially the third world, no other video only shows a rozinha favela, which is a complex located in Rio de Janeiro. In other words, Brazil, which is the largest country in South America, has much more than just Rio de Janeiro. There are all biomes, from la to neva, there are deserts, wetlands, beaches, amazon, lakes, waterfalls and several different biomes in just one country. diversity is Brazil

      It's like a country inside a country.
      There are rules and parameters.
It's not like in U.S. where people has 9s and shoot each other.
They have Assault rifles and grenades and .50 ... They shoot at police or rival gangs when they try to invade their territory.

I agree with this comment. You can't just walk into a dangerous Favela, and you definitely can't just walk into a dangerous Favela and start recording or taking pictures. At some point, someone will advise you not to record or take photos, or you would be shot, attacked, kidnapped, or have your device confiscated. In a dangerous Favela, this is part of the rules. In a quieter, less dangerous Favela where they have tours, the rules are less stringent, but can still be applied depending on the Favela. I was in Vidigal, "pacified" at the time, and went to take a photo of a painting on a wall near a futebol field at the top of the Favela. The area was virtually empty, yet was told not to take any photos.

Ok lemme tell you guys a secret. Almost all youtubers who go into Favelas in Rio go into the same ones, mostly Vidigal, Rocinha, Tavares Bastos and a couple others in the South Zone of Rio. They commonly claim to be inside of "one of the most dangerous" Favelas in Rio.
Matter of fact, the Favelas in the South Zone are 100% the less dangerous Favelas in Rio. The most dangerous Favelas are in the North and West zones of the city. I personally have never seen a foreign youtuber go into these Favelas.
As a rule of thumb, if the Favela on the video has a view of the beach area and christ the redeemer and/or Pão de Açúcar, it is not among the most dangerous Favelas in Rio. Lots of tourism happen in these Favelas, some of them are very very safe, such as Tavares Bastos, although people live in bad conditions, some of them are safer than "normal" neighborhoods in the city.

@@queenofthebutterflies5212 Rio had a program called pacification since 2008. At that time, Brazil was in a good economic outlook, and the police had resources and designed this plan to enter and stay in the favelas, recovering its territory from drug dealers.
The program worked well for some time, and almost all (if not all) South Zone favelas were pacified. Those are the ones closer to the touristic and high income zones. When they started to enter the North Zone favelas, they ran out of financial and human resources to apply the same operation. Since 2014/15 we have been in economic turmoil, especially Rio State. Nowadays even the succesful operations have lost terrain for the drug dealers.
But yeah, there are other favelas with more bad rep than Rocinha and Vidigal (the ones commonly showed in videos). But still, even those are also subject to random episodes of violence.

I saw white Europeans walking with tour guides in Rocinha. He’s fooling you people that have never been to RIO.. Rocinha is soft favela compared to the others i know in Rio’s north zone and west zone. Rocinha is just one out of 1,000 favelas in RIO. He probably has a guide hiding behind him why so much editing in the video why not do a live video if you have balls . There are plenty of TH-cam videos with tourist recording walking around in Rocinha. Rio is the Brazilian city where the Portuguese have been immigrating to since the start of Portuguese settlement there in 1506. At least 8 out of 10 surnames in this city are Portuguese. Out of all of the accents in Brazil, the Carioca accent is the one that most closely approaches the accent of Lisbon, Portugal. The accent of Sao Luis, Maranhao and of southern Brazil i.e., Porto Alegre are close too. The enormity of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro is mind boggling. Try to imagine the size of continent sized Brazil - half of South America! And there are endless Brazilian cities that are this huge (give or take) i.e., Sao Paulo (largest in both is size and population). Other cities such as Belo Horizonte, and others not quite as big as the 3 already mentioned, but are still huge: Porto Alegre, Recife, Manaus, Salvador, Recife, Brasilia (capital), Fortaleza, Curitiba, etc., etc.

This isn't the worst slum in Brazil....not by a longshot.
Mexico and Brazil are pretty much the same in terms of development. Actually I'd say Mexican slums are just dryer looking in general, but not necessarily worse. Most Mexican slums look just like this except for the really terrible ones on the outskirts of Oaxaca City, Tijuana and Juarez. But Brazil has plenty just as shitty as those, you just have to Northern Brazil.

Rocinha is like a city, a few years a go a big war occurred there.
I think they have a tour for tourists, of course they don't gonna show the worst places of the slum.

What distortions most people is the fact that they built their own houses and buildings with their own hands not hiring a big real state construction company. What you don’t know is that many people who lives in this favela work in construction. They look more like Middle Age European cities like in Italy, Mediterranean Coast and you see garbage because it hasn’t been picked up yet.

A lot of people want to see it. One could feel the authenticity. Its also in a large city. So, its convenient. Fancy developments ( although nice) one can see anywhere. Here....This is the triumph of the human spirit in spite of life's adversity. People sense that and that attracts tourists looking for something that's not all vanity. Parts of wealthy Rio and Sao Paulo are very materialistic. Nothing behind all the vanity.
