This video I was suppose to do a tour of Centro Rio de Janeiro.I accidentally got of the wrong exit and in up in a dangerous Favela hood in Rio De Janeiro Brazil.

Good video. Thanks for showing us "the streets" of Rio. The fact that you ended up in a working class neighborhood (NOT the favelas) and you were safe means that that area is also good. You even had a camera out in the open and were in a very vulnerable position, and still... you were safe. Folks even tried to help you on your way. I've been to Rio and also Salvador in Bahia and had similar experiences with very helpful people on the streets (when asked). You have a better chance of being targetted for robbery or assulted in Copacabana and Ipanema than you would in Central or even in most favelas. I dont think you should keep warning viewers not to "do what Czech did". It just is what it is and you survived without any major drama. Travel is better when you leave the tourista spots and mix it up in the hood around real average people. No matter where you go, if you act like a mark and you'll get capped like a mark. The lady didn't trick you. When you told her you wanted to go to Central, she probably understood that you meant the station Central (yeah, that's the station name). Rio downtown is so big. There are five stations in this area. If you'd like to visit the part of the Centro that we have the flea market and the stores, you are supposed to get off at Uruguaiana station (Aguadiana 😅).

The subway station and trains look similar to the one in New Jersey, the PATH trains, only the stations look much bigger and nicer than NJ. Rio is definitely on my bucket list.

I'm listening to your comments "a long way from Colombia." It is interesting how tons of foreigners are descending on Colombia and creating youtube content, but very few go to Brazil to do that. I've spent a lot more time in Brazil and a little in Colombia. Safety-wise, similar. I much prefer Brazil though. The big thing about Brazil though is that large swaths of even the largest cities just never see foreigners. Finally seeing some good footage of brazil! I think you will pick up a lot of viewers!
Because it's ok to film in a barrio in Colombia in Brazil you try that shit in a favela and your body will get cut up into pieces.
This "wrong turn" you took was much more interesting then what you wanted us to see. Who wants to see some boring architecture anyway. I prefer to see real people living their real lives in their real environments. Do this more often. Great video btw.

It's always important to learn some of the language of any country you travel to. Especially in a place like Brazil. You NEVER go to the favelas without someone who lives there. Taking a camera to the hood in Brazil?😱 You're lucky you didn't get taxed. I lived in Brazil and I speak Portuguese fluently and I never ventured to the favelas without someone who knew it and the people well. I'm from the most rugged gully part of the South Bronx, I grew up with hoods of every stripe, and the favelas for me were scary. Lookin' all brand new like you were, you were lucky they didn't jack you for your clothes. You have some powerful ancestors walking with you💪🏿 You were blessed🙏🏾 Salvador Bahia and Bahia State is the BEST part of Brazil with the most beautiful people in Brazil

Metro or onibus = train and bus. Centro is exactly that Downtown. He is in downtown Rio but he is not in the hood as he claims. He is a few blocks away from atleast one. By law of drug traffickers he wont be able to record there anyway. He is on what Brazilians call the "asphalt " and by law it's ok to assualt/robbery on the asphalt. The reason people are following him and locals are avoiding him. He is a target

First time viewer. I enjoyed your adventure in Rio.
I think your biggest challenge was the language barrier, if you understood and spoke the language better I think you might’ve been able to navigate traveling and commuting more efficiently.
However, I think sometimes in life it’s good to get lost in your adventures, it adds more excitement to your life experience. Despite some of the negative economic social issues in Rio, it generally looks a beautiful place. My biggest issue is learning the language and is it worth the effort to live there long term especially as a Black person.
I welcome any comments or suggestions on the question I just asked 🤔

Hey man, have you ever watched the film "Central Station" (Walter Salles film of 1997)? It was basically shot on that station. Quite an emblamatic place in Rio, people seem to be always on the run. Some unfortunately live on the streets right around the station entry (the big tower over there, did you see it?). Some children and teenagers living on the street also... If you pass around the entry you probably gonna see people selling "jogo do bicho" cards (a type of lottery that is outlawed) in the open air!
Whenever possible speak to the people who live there and hand them a bit of cash. Nice travel and good video. Subscribed.

I have property in Barranquilla, Colombia but from and live in the States. Spent two weeks in Rio with 3 buddies and one knew a little Spanish about 30 years ago. Never visited El Centro but spent most of the time near the beach. At that time the political environment was a dictatorship with military riding around in Volkswagen bugs carrying machine guns. I was dude with light hair and blue eyes so I stuck out like a sore thumb for the good and bad of it. Keep safe and enjoy your journey.

As for the Spanish part, it always depends on the zone you are. South Zone is ok, even favela people will manage to understand your Spanish (or English, if you really need it). But elsewhere it's not costumary for people to see other languages being spoken. I hope you have a nice stay if you come to Brazil someday.

It’s better than speaking English which most people in Brazil don’t speak a word of. I think every person who visits Brazil should at least learn basic Portuguese to talk to the locals. Spanish is understood but I’ve heard some Brazilians don’t like it, unless it’s your native language. I’m not sure what the case is with Czech. He sounds Dominican at times. I don’t know if he’s Afro-Latino or African-American.

It depends. Even though Spanish and Portuguese are related, not all Brazilians understand Spanish.
English and Portuguese share a fair bit of vocabulary too, so it is not automatically beyond hope to try that either.
