I own one of these instruments and I have to say, Rob Martino makes it look EASY. I can play a multitude of instruments, but this one is by far, the most intensely difficult one to learn how to play. There are so many tuning and playing styles, and you have to engage both sides of your brain to play anything comprehensive on it. What you are seeing is a guy who has spent the best part of 15 years working very hard on a daily basis to get to this level of playing ability. Buy his album!
Just amazing. Your description is most reassuring as well. As a fellow "multi-instrumentalist", I don't consider myself particularly "expert" level at any of them. With background in keys, percussion, bass and some guitar, I hope this will be "my instrument" once I get going on it. Thanks! ~Michael
My dream is to play Animals As Leaders licks on the chapstick. I hope it comes true someday. Thank you TED for producing such riveting, amazing content, Words cannot express how thankful I am. Thanks again!
you could be the FIRST Chapstick VIRTUOSO. (There is no "Yngwie Malmsteen" or "Eddie Van Halen" of the Chapstick! All Chapstick players like Tony Levin, are perfunctory!)
Rob, beautiful. Two of my favorite pieces! On a totally unrelated note, I find it funny that the lighting in this video is just such that you can see a particular muscle in Rob's right arm that bulges and twitches as he moves his fingers in the solos. See, musicians CAN be ripped! :-P
Rob's an amazing player and an active member of the Stick community. He's also been recognized on the actual official Stick site because he uses a unique left hand tuning (inverted 4ths rather than inverted 5ths) and because of his advanced abilities. They also sell his original disks! (Rob please correct me if i have any of this information wrong!)

Beautiful and so soothing. Found myself just floating along with the notes.
Great demo/playing, Rob!

It's been nearly 10 years, did your dream come to fruition?
I love that, I’m going actually going to play before I talk it’s much easier to demonstrate then explain.
That's an amazing instrument and that's an amazing dedication way to go
