    Maybe I don't know enough about electricity but wouldn't an easier hack be to get a DC power adapter 5.5x2.1 female jack that converts to a male 5.5x2.5 male plug to fit on the USB 6v cord you suggested and just utilize the DC jack that's built into the unit without having to cut any wires or taking it apart?

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely another way you can do it yes! The reason I went this way is so that I could keep everything contained inside of the unit running off the power pack and without having a plug sticking out of the back. I can already see that getting busted off quickly the way I use these heaters outdoors unfortunately.

    Wondering how the operation of the unit itself has done for you. Is it working and as reliable as the Mr. Heater?

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, functionally for producing consistent heat, adjusting the temperature output with the dial and lighting without issues it works great. Still putting it through it's paces though so want a bit more time with it then I will put out a review video. For instance, the fact that the 1lb connection on these heaters do not swivel is actually a bigger pain then I originally thought

    Just get 8 reachable D batteries you will have a fresh set ready to go and you won't have to break the warranty on the heater to hook the usb cord up

    • @AlexTimm

      Definitely another route you could go if you wanted

    Alex, I found this video to be just what I was looking for. I have a Big Buddy that I was running a different battery setup in one of the canister compartments and this solution works a lot better. I can confirm that the INIU Portable Charger, 10000mAh Power Bank (Your First Link) fits perfectly in the battery compartment of the Big Buddy heater. So thank you for posting this video! I just wanted to put this here in case someone else was running the Big Buddy and not the Flame King heater.

    I have the 10k but no fan when I turn the knob after lighting pilot light, to flames on ceramic it's at the 5 o'clock position flames will periodically engulf the bottom too. I quickly turn off and relight pilot light or turn the propane tank off. Is the pilot light not touching the ceramic plate causing this does not heat ceramic panel unless I go to 5 o'clock position then flames the whole thing? Any tips ? Ty

    This is interesting and all but wouldn’t it be far easier and better to just get the dewalt version of the mr heater? The dewalt version obviously just uses the dewalt batteries and has a light on it as well. Also so far what is you favorite version of all these heaters so far that you own?

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That Dewalt heater is definitely an option, but does limit you to that specific heater and none of the others on the market as well as needing to have Dewalt batteries. I do know a few people that have that heater (and multiple of the batteries) and really like it! Just about to start using the heaters a lot as that season is finally arriving, so I get to get some hands on use with these Flame King heaters, of which I think I'm going to really like the 20k BTU heater, but the good old trusty and reliable Big Buddy is my default as of now if I could only have 1

    I was thinking about mounting a DeWalt battery adapter for 20v drill battery. Too much current? What could i wire in to make it work ?

  • @freefree2021

    and you can skip all of this and just buy a USB to 6v dc adapter, great idea tho to run it off a power cell.

  • @lamarrharding4776
    @lamarrharding4776 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would you cut the wires, when. You could just put a plug on an old USB cord and use the existing jack?

    Man might as well hook up a 20v power tool battery

  • @cameranmanner4701
    @cameranmanner4701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i don't see the need to cut the connection for the 6v dc port. if you leave it then you can use the 6v dc plug to recharge your battery pack. As long as the 6v dc is regulated it will recharge your lithium pack.
    The battery pack has built in safety switches to shut down the charge cycle when the pack hits a targeted voltage.

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a bad idea, as long as you have a battery pack that can charge through the port you have it plugged into

      Yes the USB pack can charge and run the heater fan at the same time

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Charlie, I have not yet, but will as soon as we get ice here in MN. The heater just came out a few weeks ago so didn't get a chance to use it at all last season either. I'm hoping for some lakes within a driving distance of me to have fishable ice by middle of November (or earlier if I get lucky!). I'll do a review once I get some time out on the ice with it for sure!

    I ordered this 3 times off Amazon and they keep sending me the Ysn- CHS20T..... that is an outdoor only unit. Buyer beware as the sticker on the back says CHS20T. The box says CHS 20 . Wonder how many will find out without a carbon monoxide tester

      I did learn one more thing today and that is a co detector and a co2 sensor are not the same and both should be purchased separate from which ever heater you buy if you plan to run it inside your home and they both need battery backup
