  • Jane Fonda, actress, author, producer, activist, exercise guru, and guest curator and host of the ReBirth Session, opens up the third section with a discussion of what she calls the "Third Act" of life, what we can do to make the most of these years, and how we can use these years to make a difference. She describes her own search for self-understanding as she grew older, and explains how reflecting on experiences is key to moving forward with clarity and meaning.
    TEDxWomen was curated and produced by The Paley Center for Media. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

    What she did / is doing is incredible. I am 20yo, and I have been very positively influenced by her works: watching Grace&Frankie was so relieving, it helped me see life as much wider and bigger than I ever thought. This TedTalk and interviews of her are making me challenge the way I act on a daily basis, and she is giving me a new kind of hope.

    I admire Jane Fonda. She is not just a beautiful woman externally, but a woman who seeks knowledge and shares it with other women to bring meaning to our aging life. She pushes back the walls and boundaries that most of us would just accept as part of living. She has exercised her mind as well as her body. I appreciate what she has shared. Thank you, Jane!

    Thanks, Jane. You are so smart, beautiful, and downright likable, it's as if we're here in conversation with a good friend. Aging has been a revelation to me, after the terror I felt moving into my 40s. Now, in my mid 60s, I can relate to everything you so eloquently express. I frequently tell women younger than me not to fear aging. When the biological mandate of procreation is over, lights turn on and show us all the wonders that were always there in the background while mating was in the spotlight. It's a hard thing to imagine when haven't passed through this gate, but it's what I have found in my third act.

      heroine (n.)
      1650s, "demigoddess," from Latin heroine, heroina (plural heroinae) "a female hero, a demigoddess" (such as Medea), from Greek hērōine, fem. of hērōs (see hero (n.1)). Meaning "heroic woman, woman distinguished by exalted courage or noble achievements" is from 1660s.
      "shero" makes no linguistic sense.

      I'm italian and i'm not sure i got all of what she said. Did she say:
      "Women start awful, don't we? I mean as girls we're feisty. < yeah? Who says? > We have agency. We are the subject of our own lives, but very often many if not most of us, when we hit puberty, we start worring about fitting in and being popular, and we become the subjects and objects of other people's lives"
      "But now it may be possible for us to circle back to where we started, and know it for the first time. And if we can do that, it will be not just for ourselves. [...] If we can go back and redefine ourselves and become whole, this will create a cultural shift in the world and it will give an example to younger generations, so that they reconceive their own lifespan" thank you!

As a matter of fact happiness is an internal state that money may destroy not foster .. u can be happy living in 1 room condo and unhappy living in a castle! Dear Lady Jane, you are the best example of someone who has had all the beauty and fame and yet grown into the third act with grace and wisdom and dignity..I am in my fifties now and didn't know how to describe this new life period, I feel like Picasso said growing younger and stronger in mind..but also feel I have so much to offer which I also do just around me..understanding now that I don't have to be confused but just know ok, I am in my third act..thank you, you are such a beautiful being

      Carolyn i'm italian and i'd love to know if i got al her speech. Would you tell me if she said ""Women start awful, don't we? I mean as girls we're feisty. < yeah? Who says? > We have agency. We are the subject of our own lives, but very often many if not most of us, when we hit puberty, we start worring about fitting in and being popular, and we become the subjects and objects of other people's lives"
      "But now it may be possible for us to circle back to where we started, and know it for the first time. And if we can do that, it will be not just for ourselves. [...] If we can go back and redefine ourselves and become whole, this will create a cultural shift in the world and it will give an example to younger generations, so that they reconceive their own lifespan"?
      Thank you!

      SentByHim I mean, really. Why are you watching this? Why did you click on her video if you don't like her and think she's a traitor? You're clearly living about 40 some odd years in the past and there's progress that has been made. We no longer hang people just because we think we should. And who's SentByHIm? Him? Do you mean god? In my religion, my god chooses love over hatred. And only GOD is allowed to judge people. You can't judge her because you don't know her on a personal level, at all. You clearly haven't even bothered to try. There were many people who spoke out against the War back in the 1970's but you cling onto her... Why? Because she's famous? Because she's a woman and women should know their place? Let me tell you something, those times have absolutely changed in the last 40 years. Women don't have to bend to your will anymore just because we're women and Jane Fonda was part of that. If you don't like it then I'm sorry but progress is being made. You can go crawl under a rock where women just do what they're told like good little soldiers and follow blindly. She's not one of those women, and that probably scares you/Furthermore, She's not even talking about the war in this video. If you're going to talk about the war and how you think she's a traitor. Google her 1970's videos and interviews if you want to comment so badly of your false need to hate her based on what you think you know and go there. She's talking about aging here.

    • @xxshevilxx
      @xxshevilxx 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just because I seek understanding of something doesn't mean I'm seeking agreement with it. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. And thinking she's a traitor is one thing, knowing she is, is another. She even went on Barbra Walter's show and apologized for what she did to our POWs. Do you know the story? Do you know she manned VC anti aircraft weapons and fired at American troops? These are all verifiable facts of history. At the time she did them she was proud of her actions and flaunted them where ever she went. She has the nickname of "Hanoi Jane" for that very reason. Look into it, it's absolutely appalling.

    • @buffy611
      @buffy611 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have looked into it, thank you. I've also looked into her progression and the fact that it was over 40 years ago. I mean, really, you're living in the past. And you clearly haven't looked into when she first got back from her trip as being "Hanoi Jane" when she stated very clearly that she had no sympathy for Vietnam soldiers. She said, and I quote "it's impossible to have sympathy for them. I had sympathy for our soldiers". We lost that war. Get over it, man. And we had no business being there in the first place-- that's clear. So her being against the war automatically makes her a traitor? I mean, really? I'm against the Iraqi war and the Bush administration-- does that automatically mean that I am a traitor or that I am not in agreement with some of what our government is doing? Is it not the first amendment that freedom of speech is allowed? If this is a free country then shouldn't "Hanoi Jane" or "third act Jane" be allowed to have a different opinion than you?
      and, by the way, what exactly about your statement that she's a "traitorous whore" is intelligent and/or educated? It just seems like that is a childlike way to argue your point. And it seems as though you've forgotten that, since the 1920's, women have been able to vote and... Oh my god, women can wear pants and drive and have an opinion. Oh, and women can also challenge ideas and fight for equality because if I'm made to do the same exact job as you, then I should get paid the same. Now, if you're going to have a real intellectual conversation about Jane Fonda or about any woman that you want to tear down-- make sure that you actually stop the most unintelligent form of arguing-- Name Calling. You can do better. Would you call a man a whore if you just disagreed with them and figured them for an enemy?
      and, by the way, you're not keeping her close at all. You're just watching her over the internet like everyone else. You have no idea where she lives and you don't interact with her directly, so that is actually a very moot point.

    • @xxshevilxx
      @xxshevilxx 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no statute of limitations on war crimes. Do you think people should stop hunting Nazis?
      The only moot point is your bind support of this traitorous scamp

    Jane a woman of depth , wisdom , strength and I believe a big heart . Always curious and learning and never dull . Impossible to not just love you , for all your fame you have a fragile self consciousness that comes through that makes you endearing . Not sure how you are able to rub shoulders with all the pretension in Hollywood. I’ve heard you’ve become Christian . I hope it’s the one true Christ who is the sovereign God ,Creator and Savior you’re having a relationship with. He that died for all of us was buried and rose again. My heart would burst with joy if this were true. Thank you for doing something you don’t have to do , sharing wisdom and encouraging others.

    the quality of later life strongly depends on financial conditions as well as younger one, but when we are young we can change them to better.But how to earn money when you are old, rejected, physically disable etc?

    • @tonyterry916

      globalcons great questions. For many of us getting older will be tough because of a host of reason known and unknown. Money or having a good amount will help but one's health is Priceless! If we can head into aging with great health that alone is worth millions and of course a sound mind I pray I maintain both! Outside of that it is gravely!
