- This is the 4th in the eight part Indonesian series and the 2nd of the 4 part Yogyakarta!
So much amazing food to come from this artsy, college, food packed city!
I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without my friend Andre. Andre is one of the most influential food bloggers in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas. You can find his work in places like:

We started the morning off in a morning market where I thought it was a good idea for a double plate breakfast, but I clearly didn’t know what Andre had in store for the day. After that we walked the market and continued to snack on various things you can find.
After that, we headed out to another market. This time a market with a much larger Chinese influence as we ate some Indo-Chinese dishes before setting off for some Chinese-Indo noodles.
The noodles were fabulous and really hit the spot. Nice and meaty with a kick of sweetness. However, I quickly changed that as I dumped a bottle of chili sauce in my bowl. Also the fried wontons were light, greasy, and oh so crunchy!
After a quick break, we finished the day off eating at a Padang restaurant. One of my favorite meals ever! I just love Padang style meals so much. I loaded mine up with an assortment of goodies, but made sure to get my favorite, Beef Rendang. To say it was magical would be an understatement.

71k subscribers, woohoo! You are on a roll, Max! Better yet, as you are bouncing here and there for some chomps ... you are on a spring roll! I see that you must start your day with coffee, even if it's instant. I prefer combining rice porridge with dry, bold, sharp flavored food; steamed rice with everything else. I didn't quite get what the vegetable was so I turned on the transcript. Haha, it read "in jail". The second time it was "inject". This tempted me to double back on your other videos and, surprise surprise, some of the transcripts were really hilarious. The noodles looked tasty, no frills, and pairing it with the crunchy krupuk must have been the clincher. Whoa! You just kept loading your plate with the good stuff at the Padang restaurant. I swear if they gave you a bigger plate you would have kept going. In the end you had a mound on your plate so high that a gerbil can't possiby jump over it; and you ate everything. Dare I say your next venture might be competitive eating? :) But you know what, the best thing about this particular vlog is that we got a glimpse of your sense of humor. May we see more of that please? So. It was another A-1 food review. Two thumbs up isn't enough, this one deserves eight tentacle tips!

Shadow Amigo no that’s not true. eggs with hash browns, bacons, sausages, with a side of biscuit & gravy or short stack is a hell lot of a breakfast, more than a bungkus of nasi uduk.

Hi Max, how are you? Love all the foods you ate in this segment. Glad you tried a full variety beyond nasi goreng, ayam goreng and nasi lemak which are popular go-to dishes. Nothing wrong with those dishes btw. Yr food made me hungry. I love tempeh, beef rendang and all the different flavors of Indonesian food. You have a good guide. For me, no Padang food without that oily green sambal. I can just eat plain rice with that sambal without any other condiments for sure 🤣🤣. Keep them coming, Max.

One thing i like about you Max is that you’re not picky about food. On top of everything you even tried Indonesian jamu which most asian people can’t take and smell it. Keep it up Max, thumb up to you.👍👍👍👍👍
Genjer is not similar to lettuce, Genjer family species is Limnocharis while Lettuce species is Lactuca. You can found Genjer grow wild mostly on the swamp area while Lettuce is on high and dry hills area. But yes commonly western will call Genjer as rice field lettuce (sawah lettuce).
As for the first Jamu you drink, the first one (the yellow one) is Turmeric juice with Javanese Tamarind juice mixed together. And the second one is Galangal juice mixed with ground rice powder.

We went to a Chinese influenced market in this video. Just matters where you are in Indonesia as pork is available more readily in some places, but I bet you can always have a Chinese restaurant somewhere.

Actually.. Asia's restaurant food portion especially the Southeast Asia portion is kinda small for the west people.
And that's also the reason why it is so rare to see fat people in Eastern part of Asia(east, south, and southeast).
We can see in some resto in the west have a huge portion of dish. Like.. Big burger, big meat bowl, etc.

Gandos have a different name on different place, for example here in Bandung it is called Bandros, and in Jakarta it is called Kue Pancong (Pancong cake). And I'm sure it have different name on Sumatra and Borneo. I usually eat it without sugar tho, I like it salty

Dude, you should go straight to sumatra barat for the padang food. I swear the padang food over there is different from all padang food else where. Visit jakarta as well, and go to medan baru for the famous fish head curry. Rated as the best in the world by various international food vloggers.

Wow, i really like the way you were eating the porridge and nasi pandang with mixing it first, it reminds me of my mother. She fed me sometimes with her hand and it was always be the best flavour in my life. Just for info, there are two types of eating food in Indonesia, the first is to eat the food without mixing it and the second with mixing it all together. I am in the mixing team :D

Indonesia has a large variety of regional foods and each tribe has a unique food. I am Javanese and in each region also have special food, even though it is still from the Javanese tribe. Not to mention that there are many other tribes in Indonesia. I am in Magelang, my house is near the Borobudur temple.
YES! I think Indonesian food gets labeled as Javanese food a lot, but there is really so much diversity and types of food in Indonesia!
