I just got a 2011 Limited in 5 speed. It was the only manual on the entire lot. I have had some good cars, and some not so good cars, and this one I love. It is comfortable, roomy, and everything is just where it needs to be. The ergonomics are great, and it is just solid. It's not going to win many drag races or mud bog competitions, but for a daily driver that I use to haul the dog around and go camping in, I think it is going to be great.
Everyone says it needs more gears because of 'other' cars. Does that mean it should get rid of the boxer engine because 'other' cars don't have it? The four speed is excellent and has plenty of power. I see nothing wrong with it.
I bought a 2011 Hyundai Tucson 4 months ago, but have already looked into trading it in for a Subaru. The Tucson isn't bad, but Ron's right...Subaru's are NICE cars
Here's a better way to last any Subaru Forester: 1. Use Fully Synthetic oil for the engine. 2. Use Synthetic Muiti-auto transmission Fluid. 3. Use Fully Synthetic Differential Fluid. 4. Use a K&N Filter for intake and oil filter. 5. Use Synthetic Power Steering Fluid for a smoother steering feel. These steps will help the Subaru Forester reduce the wear and tear of the mechanical parts and last for many years.
Good overall review but way too focused on the transmission. This sounds more like a subjective opinion rather than an objective review. Tell us how the vehicle drives with that 4-speed? Does it feel like it could use a 5th gear at freeway speeds? Would it be more economical and have better fuel efficiency with another gear or two?
@pashdar Just bought an impreza with the 4 speed auto and at highway speed it's fine. At 70mph it's around 3000 rpm, at 55 and 60 it's closer to 2500. Nothing to worry about. Around town it's nice having only 4 gears because it's not constantly shifting.
the engine on the 2008-present Subaru Forester Engine 2.0 L H4 (Japan) 2.0 L H4 turbo(Japan) 2.5 L 170 hp (130 kW) H4 2.5 L 224 hp (167 kW) turbo H4 2.0 L H4 turbodiesel
@TheStig000 heap in a good way or heap in a bad way. because i want to buy a jeep overland of subaru it is so hard to pick.have you driven any of the two cars?
@Ulai777 Agreed, the 4 speed threw me off at first, but I recently bought an impreza and surprisingly 4 gears is enough. 70mph at about 3000 rpm isn't terrible.
yes get the XT... has all the goody power etc.. BUT it only come with the automatic :S who in the hell ever made the decision to leave out the manual with the turbo version?!?! that's the worst idea they could have ever come up with.. sigh
I prefer the previous exterior body style xt(08) which I have but mine has more road noise due to frameless windows...the interior on this one is better.. and I wish mine had the steering wheel controls..
He is 1/2 right with his argument about the gearbox. It is a poor gearbox because it doesn't allow the driver 2 (as easily) access the engines performance/fun as the manual but 2 compare it 2 the amount of gears of other cars is wrong. Who cares how many other cars have, just put 'enough' gears and/or design the ratios better 2 make the car as enjoyable 2 drive as the manual- of course they are different but the element of 'fun' should be present. Redesign the 4-spd to do this if need be.
CVT TRANS would be even better. Great big monster moonroof.. my only gripe... stereo system is sub-par with no upgrade available. Sure wish they would offer the Harmon Kardon system like the Outback.
@jerseytoman1212 I'm glad there's still people like you out there that won't stand for that kind of thing. It really ruins the free market in our country when big companies that are failing can cheat like that. I do my best to boycott the bailouts.
@Ulai777 Gee that why high end high torque cars have 5+ gear autos because it's such a waste of time? LOL Sounds like a fanboi defense. Less gears always means less fast AND less efficient given the same parameters these days. Love Subys but their engines and transmissions are getting a little creaky technology wise.
@jerseytoman1212 Heap in a bad way. I can tell you this, the Subaru will be much more reliable and last longer. That I know for a fact. As far as what you'd have more fun in, I don't know. I just don't like Jeeps because they are made by Chrysler. Chrysler makes junk and they took money from tax payers because they couldn't make a profit legitimately. That speaks volumes about their product if you ask me.
This guy is a fucking idiot, didn't mention 1 thing about subarus superior AWD, didn't mention anything about how a 6'2" 300 pound man fix in it comfortably, yeah I could go on and on, bottom line is its a terrible review for someone who doesn't know much about subarus.
@TheStig000 you said the magic word .THEY TOOK MONEY FROM TAX PAYERS.because i work hard for the money and i will be damn if im going to spend it on shit.and they do make junk cars.any way thank's for the help! TheStig000

Actually it's 7 times. Agreed that it's probably 3 too many times, but far from your "54" number. Thanks for watching.

I would say you're wrong about getting the XT. If you stick with the base engine, the expected reliability is a ton higher than the turbo.

Ron because of your video i might go and buy one of these. it sounds good enough for 21k
@Ulai777 Agreed, the 4 speed threw me off at first, but I recently bought an impreza and surprisingly 4 gears is enough. 70mph at about 3000 rpm isn't terrible.

Hey guys, kindly review the newly redesigned Subaru Forester 2014, thanks!
Good review, keep up the good work!
I prefer the previous exterior body style xt(08) which I have but mine has more road noise due to frameless windows...the interior on this one is better.. and I wish mine had the steering wheel controls..
@Ulai777 if it has more gears it can accelerate faster and always get better gas mileage on the high way. it needs a 6 speed manual to be awesome

Off-road occassionally require extra gears to drive thru obstacle in smooth precision.

anyone know how tall this guy is?
@MrMischiefVIP Jeep is owned by Chrysler. It also rhymes with heap. I think you know what I mean.
@pashdar Oh, and it gets way over 30mpg highway. Even with a 4 speed.
@TheZimzamzom dont forget HID and new rims
good review!!!
Beware of 2011 Subaru Forester fuel filler neck, it's rusted and no flapper.
i keep reading autoboob
@Ulai777 Agree with you 100% love that car.. thinking of getting one for me
this dude needs to expand his fucking vocabulary he said "premium" 54 times
@CrazylambTwoEight My 2008 Impreza gets right around 24mpg with aggressive city/highway driving.

@hangene92 i do...that "first" shit is stupid as hell.
good lord. a 2004 cavalier has a more modern transmission than this.
