    I think the first two or three inches of flight are closer to real ball speed and the AG ball would then rapidly drop off. Hence a algorithm could solve all that quite easily...just a thought

    I have a dozen of these balls when they were called the “sweet 60s”. I believe at the time the company was called Point Five. They are really fun to play on executive courses, or par 3 courses. Would love to see a really good 4000 yard course designed to accommodate these.

    For us lesser techies, I suppose I need to start paying attention to my SC300i while I practice with my Almost Golf balls on the back porch. Have only been watching the clubhead speed.
    What I really like about the Almost balls is that I have not broken any glass when they bounce off the net. Lot of expensive double pane on my back porch.

    Even though the Mevo+ can read the ball, I still agree with your original assessment of "Why"? The numbers are useless...Also, the sound (or lack there of) when you hit the first shot almost made me stop the video. I bought these a few years ago for recreation ground practice, uber good. Then I bought some to hit into a net in lockdown and also useful. On my SC300 they are useful to hit just try and smash drivers and see BS results. I think its all relative.

    @richardabram4596 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Okay even though Im one who asked.. If im being honest i didnt expect it to be as close as it was.
    When using radar like Swing caddy these seems to read as about 60% of a real ball.
    However when using sci core balls , they were reading nearly 85 percent the normal distance.
    With all that being said, I cant help but wonder if sci core ball would read nearly a real balls distance.
    Im ordering a mevo+ , it might be awhile but i will test out sci core balls.

      I never pick devices or software over another. When I created the channel I set a goal to have the best content and enough of it so people could make the best decision based on what they see. Since the SkyTrak unit I originally planned on having got stopped from arriving due to Corona I apologize I do not have a unit on hand to do direct comparisons. I still plan on having one as soon as possible and doing a direct comparison. I can tell you some facts. Flightscope is great for indoor and outdoor, it really can shine outdoor as radar. Now Flightscope takes some more space vs Skytrak can fit in a little smaller space which can be nice. Skytrak has a few second delay after the shot is hit, Mevo+ is almost instant. Flightscope comes with software and no annual fee, Skytrak has annual fees. There are few differences. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    Is your sim a regular indoor or short indoor configuration? We purchased a Mevo+ and have not been able to get any kind of reading with foam golf balls. It would be good to have foam as an option. The only difference I can see in this video compared to our setup would be short vs regular indoor configuration. Unless I'm missing something else. Thanks.

    • @GolfSimulatorVideos
      @GolfSimulatorVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Short indoor. This was only to test. It's not intended for foam balls.

  • @stuartbaker3897
    @stuartbaker3897 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting but wouldn’t it be true that the simulator is just applying the algorithm that it has inbuilt which is configured for normal balls? So, the distance figures you are getting are just a calculation - it doesn’t mean the almostball actually traversed that distance. One of the first comments was by someone who uses the almostball and actually gets 1/2 the normal distance with a wedge (say, 50 yards) but only 1/3 of the normal distance with a 3-wood (say, about 65-70 yards).

    • @GolfSimulatorVideos
      @GolfSimulatorVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The device is reading the actual ball speed and spin of the ball. The foam is not going to react the same way as a normal golf ball. So it really doesn't have to do with any calculation because it doesn't know it's foam.

    • @stuartbaker3897
      @stuartbaker3897 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GolfSimulatorVideos I don’t think that what you wrote is correct. The device is doing exactly what I wrote - it is measuring some parameters of the foam ball in the first 8 feet after it is struck (that’s in the me o information) and then applying the algorithm under the assumption that it is a real golf ball. That’s what all those devices do, if you think they don’t then that’s fine but I suggest you hit the almostball outside, on a real golf hole, with your 7-iron and see how far it goes; it won’t go anywhere near the distance reported by the mevo machine. Even with real golf balls these machines just estimate a distance based on what is measured in the first 8 feet. They do not measure real distance.

    • @GolfSimulatorVideos
      @GolfSimulatorVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stuartbaker3897 I'm pretty sure you were just misunderstanding what I am saying. The facts are the foam ball is not going to react on the club the same way a real ball does. So the spin numbers and speeds are not going to be the same. Does it apply an algorithm after reading 8 feet yes it does but it's going to be using that data that is going to be much different from a real golf ball.

    • @GolfSimulatorVideos
      @GolfSimulatorVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really can’t be used with any LM. They are reading the ball speed, spin, etc and the almost balls are intentionally short flight so other than some shipping data will be off. Thanks for watching

    • @SimBoots
      @SimBoots 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had the SkyTrak for 3 years now and have a garage net setup. Most of my practice is with the AG balls, and here is what I’ve seen -
      For shot shaping practice it is extremely accurate for showing your swing path and club face angle.
      Distance is inconsistent and ranges from 75-90% of a proV due to the lower ball speed.
      Generally I’ve found that the spin is much lower and launches higher than the ProV.
      In short, very good to practice ball striking and shot shaping but no good for simulation.

      As I said right away, this was a user requested video. I will not be using them other than for demonstration in a video like this. It was very interesting though. From what the viewers requesting the video a few lived in apartments and wanted to at least hit something without noise and others have limited space and thing it would suffice when they cant get outdoors etc. The CHS should be correct and you can tell if it was straight, right, or left etc. so some feedback for sure. • @stevencollins297
      @stevencollins297 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not a value add, it's an answer to a limited setup problem. I am looking at setting up a simulator in my conservatory but there isn't really enough space for a full net or screen to stop a real golf ball. So I would have to use these balls or foam balls so wondered if it was worth spending the money on a Skytrak or Mevo+ for my limited setup. I've read that you can add boosts to certain clubs. Somebody suggested something like 5% to wedges, 10% for mid irons, 15% for long irons, 20% for woods and 30% for drivers. Looking at the data in the video suggests this would give pretty accurate real life yardages.
      Great video, thanks!

      Compression will probably be the cause of the distance difference. Less compression on shorter clubs will create less distance gap. Driver will compress the almost golf ball into deformation and cause energy (ball speed) loss. Same concept when a person with high club head speed hits a low compression ball like a Wilson duo vs a prov1x. Wedge will retain the speed but driver will have higher ball speed with prov1x.
