Filmed by the Andersons' production company Century 21, it stars Roy Thinnes, Ian Hendry, Lynn Loring, Loni von Friedl and Patrick Wymark, ***Herbert Lom.***

The sad thing was that Sellers didn't think this was great work, probably because Hollywood critics want maudlin displays of intense pathos. The genius of Lom here on display: you can see the buildup of the “hysterical laughter”, the madness crumbling in, like a slow avalanche - later on on full display. Thereby the minutious buildup of the character, it’s circumstances and developement.A master genius of comedian act in the planning, while Sellers was the improvising momentum, the improvising genius. No matter what success this series had, it’s hugely underrated. This should be pensum in acting classes, this is absolute gold. And totally, absolutely hilarious so tears run down your cheeks. Dreyfuss: Idiot. My blood pressure. Idiot. One day, Francois.
One day I'll be rid of him forever.
That'll be the day.- Something on your mind?
Francois; - An order from the commissioner.
      Dreyfuss: - Aw, yes?
      Francois- It concerns Clouseau.
      Dreyfuss: - Yes, go on.
Francois: - He's to be reinstated as an inspector.
Dreyfuss: What? You can't be serious.
Francois: And he's to report immediately to Colonel... Sharki in Lugash.
      Dreyfuss: I see.
      Francois:- Sir.
Dreyfuss:- What? It's a birthday gift from my wife.
      Francois: Most realistic.
      Dreyfuss: Get me the commissioner.
Francois: Chief Inspector Dreyfus calling. Hmm. The commissioner.
Dreyfuss: Commissioner, I've just received your instructions...to send, uh,
      Clouseau to Lugash.
But, you see, he's no longer with the Sureté.
I've just given him- Yes, but-Yes, but since France and Lugash have been allies
      for nearly 200 years,
it might be a serious mistake to send someone who is-
      I see. Yes, of course.
      Very good, Commissioner.
It seems the Shah of Lugash phoned the president personally,
and asked for Clouseau to be assigned to the case. The Shah of Lugash.

While we're passing along deserved praise to Sellers and Herbert Lom, let's not forget the man behind the camera, the brilliant, late Blake Edwards. Edwards could be modest about his talents as a comedy director, but sometimes the lack of intrusion and letting talent express itself as he did with Sellers is all that is needed. Edwards once told me he thought his great talent was pointing the camera toward Sellers in a wide shot and saying "Action." Then calling cut when either Sellers was through or everyone was laughing too loud and spoiling the shot.
