I’m at the part of the video when Levi is amusing himself while Leah is in the car on a work call. Watching the montage of Levi doing so many activities made me think: Either the call was two hours long or Levi gets bored really quickly! Anyway back to the rest of the video! 😂
You could run the AC when it’s really hot. The AC runs on the motor and not the ICE so if you put the car in neutral and the AC will run until the battery gets down to two bars and then the ICE will start and charge the battery. The ICE will then turn off wen the battery gets charged. Yes your burning gasoline but it might be worth it in really hot weather.
This. I lived in my Prius, and often just left it on all night with the AC. It mainly runs on the battery and engine kicks on everyonce in a while. I did this many many times and drove that car into the ground with 300k miles before I replaced it
Yeah, I've been researching Priuses and that's the thing that is the most interesting to me. I wonder why they don't use it and how well they know their car?
I think with the Prius and the hybrid system u can keep the car running at night with AC on without using much gas….I have a Prius and I have my lunches inside the car with the AC on without impact on gas…maybe just a can of gas for emergency if u run out of gas
@@taraa3456 They literally said it doesn't run the engine in a Prius. It runs on the car's battery packs, and the engine will only turn on if you run the vehicle's (huge) battery banks down, and will shut off once the battery is recharged.
I am really enjoying the way that you are highlighting the successes and the work-in-progress aspects of your journey. Don't know if anyone has told ya or if you guys have now figured it out but since it's a hybrid you can run the car all night to run the AC. Only uses about a half gallon of gas for an 8 hour period. Me and my wife just do a full week long trip sleeping out of the back doing the same thing. Had to turn it down/put on warmer clothes while inside it was so cool! Plus can continue to charge things or (as we did) run a fridge to get evening for our food cold. This will also include powering your battery (which we also had and charged)
Hey here are some recomendar ions for Oregon: Historic highway 30- tons of waterfalls along the Colombia Gorge, including Multnomah falls and hiking trails. If heading towards the high desert, visit Newberry National Monument. Its an old volcano with a few lakes! Crater lake is also a great scenic place. The town of Sisters is completely old western style themed and has a Dinoco gas station!Bend is the city for all things Central Oregon and has many attractions nearby. Sunriver is a suburban village with tons of paved bike routes and nice homes. If in Portland, check out Powells books, its the largest bookstore in the world! I’m excited to be following your journey!!!
I have a Napier Sports Cove, which I use on my minivan. Because the back end of a minivan is a different shape (more vertical) than your car, the thing provides much more of a canopy and the screen part is more protected. Haven't used it in heavy rain, however. It is a great way to improve ventilation, either way! Also, in a crowded campground, I could get in and out more quietly in the middle of the night.
This is not something I would ever contemplate doing myself, but I am thoroughly enjoying watching your journey. It’s so interesting to see how you adapt to this way of life. Thanks for sharing 😊
I would suggest "Bike, Camp, Cook" by Tara Allan and "Vegan in a Van" by Ashlen K. Wilder. Both of those books have helped immensely in teaching out to cook simple meals that can be made on the road!
I have this for my jeep and it is storm proof from my experiences. I have used it well over 20 nights in storms and it performed very well if you close the inner zipper on the door.
I didnt notice and maybe you already have thrm, but for times you dont want to put up the clam tent, you can get mesh mosquito net sleeves to go over your back windows so you can keep them lowered at night. Getting a little second fan to pull air out (through) the car would be great too. Loving the videos!!
We sleep heads up toward the front in our prius V. Orbital visor fans blowing on us with window stockings are great. If we will be at campgrounds for long enough or real hot will put hatch tent on or just use skeeter barrier over back (cot netting pulled over top and bumper. I sometimes install these before I get to final site if skeeters are bad so they can't get in.
Haven't read the comments yet but it is very easy to set up an inverter and use your microwave and your induction. Plenty of vids out there that will show how after all you already have a mobile generator. I also have a gen 2 Prius and it has all this gear that I set up. Good luck with future 😮 travels.
I got so happy when y'all said Mt. Rainier, I've lived in Washington my entire life so I'm always exited when anyone mentions it :P Me & my family used to camp at Mt. Rainier & Mt. St. Helens in the summer, both are great places

I’ve used the MSR Dragonfly a bunch as well as a PocketRocket 2. Love the Dragonfly, but it’s not necessarily any more sustainable… The isobutane canisters can be recycled in most places *if* you get a little, inexpensive tool that pokes holes in the canisters after having been emptied. Just for future reference.
I've looked into this and those canisters ARE recyclable but not everywhere. A lot of places in the US have zero recycling options and rarely where you need them. Mexico is much worse so for our needs white gas just got us a lot further with a lot less refills.
You should check out Glen Canyon Dam. It's the same exact size as the Hoover Dam, built during the same time. It has free parking, a lot more remote, less crowded, and the tour was free. Plus it's near page AZ which has some great canyon hiking.

Water related suggestions in Washington: • A MUST see is Diablo Lake Dam. You can drive across it! Free campsite on Cascade River Road on the left, just before the 11 mile marker (waterfalls next to the site). 🤫 • Rattlesnake Ledge oversees the lake which provides all of Seattle. Great camping at Franklin Falls nearby. • Not exactly water related, but please check out Ozette Triangle if you happen to be on that side of the Olympic NP. Sandpoint campsite is one of the most beautiful sites in all Washiington (you might even see bioluminescent algae on the ocean if it's a new moon - plus killer stargazing)
PS if you’re in Seattle on a Saturday, come check out the U District farmers market. For Sundays, Ballard for a busier and more crowded (but also more photogenic) farmer’s market.
If you like dams, you can stay at Spring Canyon Campground and visit Grand Coulee Dam in eastern Washington. Our family went there when my sister and I were little. I remember little insect eating bats flying around our campfire at night. :)
Hi L&L, Hanging with your Mom in Calgary. Guaranteed you will not find white gas in Baha and you'll have to switch to the small disposable propane burners. You will have to buy the burner part in the states before you cross. Great to watch some of the great adventure. TTYS
Thanks Uncle Scott! Maybe we can fill our larger white gas container before we head over and see how far it gets us. At least we have two cook top options!
You guys need some window vents/guards for your Prius. They allow you to bring your windows down a bit and rain can't get in and they help with air flow. Great just for driving in the rain too. You can probably pick them up at an AutoZone. Takes minutes to install.
Hey guys!! I'm from WA! And currently live not too far from Snohomish WA!! Best places to go if you ever come back for a visit is the Hoh Rainforest inside of Olympic National Forest! and Sol Duc Hot Springs! Also further up closer to Canada the North Cascades has a beautiful 3 level dam system most popular sight seeing being at the middle of the three! The middle dam is Diablo Lake! This is also a major resource for hydro-electric for the greater Seattle area!!😁 Thank you for sharing this journey with us, you guys are living the life with your setup!! It's a always such a good feeling to have a good set up and get it to work almost perfectly with all the little comforts! Exploring doesnt have to equal uncomfortable sleeps! Travel Safe! Washington is a gem!
For a fun water feature with some hikes, I recommend the Old Mission Dam east of San Diego. It was the dam built by the Spanish in the 18th century, and is now in Mission Trails Regional Park. I'd avoid going in the summer though, it's hot!
Hey guys! Regarding the induction, there's a trick that might really make a BIG difference with the charge level on your Ecoflow. You can tap an inverter off the starter battery at the back passenger corner and charge the ecoflow through that instead of directly through DC to MASSIVELY increase charge speed. I'd look on marketplace something under 1000w so that it doesn't blow any difficult to replace fuses. Don't think it would need to be pure sine so it wouldn't be too expensive, and would speed up car charging by like 10x. I've thought about swapping my campervan for a prius for YEARS and that is the exact setup I'd go with for electricty. Best of luck!
Parks pass @0:32 I think the reason they do this is because people will randomly say they lost it so they can get a free one. I used to work at a print shop, FedEx Office, and I saw people quite often come in to make a copy of the pass and we'd have to turn them away because they aren't allowed to do that. People are not honest here. Welcome to America! lol Car temp/fan @7:49 I've been using this fan for my desk while I work from home and I don't know what I did without it. It's cheap but it really works! It obviously collects dust but it's easy to clean - just get a can of air and blow on the blades, or sit it outside on a super windy day. Just make sure to secure it obviously, as it's so light weight lol Cooking @11:44 You should check out Mav here on TH-cam. His videos are all about camping in his truck and his setup is amazing. His videos might be able to offer some other ideas for you in your setup too. I really love how low waste you both are! It's inspiring ❤I know with big propane tanks you can refill them, so there might also be a way for the small ones too? Not sure though. Lighting @13:28 This is so cuuuuuute!! What a brilliant idea 😍 and your reactions are priceless Dinner @14:50 I know those veggie dogs anywhere. Hope you loved them! Everett, WA @16:02 I'm so bummed you came to Washington, even in my area, and I had no idea! I'm in SeaTac which is where the major airport is, South of Seattle and North of Tacoma. Hopefully someone recommended you go to see the Troll under the bridge in Seattle. Nothing massively special and it's like "yep, there it is. ok we can go now" lol but it's one of the big things, in my opinion. If you are still here and you go, DON'T TOUCH IT! People pee on it 😊 Hope you enjoyed your time in Washington!
When in Vegas for the Hoover Dam - an under appreciated spot is Springs Preserve and NV History museum - just a hop from the Strip across from, wait for it, the water department 🙂
If you come to Alabama or the southeast in general we have an incredible bio diversity in our local ecosystems sometimes compared to that of the Amazon. One of the few positive things about living in Alabama
You do know you can leave your air conditioner on all night and it won't hurt the car or you? That's why most Prius people use the car for camping. Have fun!
We are full time Nomads in a 22 foot travel trailer pulled by a Tacoma pickup. We would love to take you guys to lunch when our paths cross. I think what you are doing on your adventure is great and look forward to following you.
National parks in Canada also have admission fees, and in my experience they are hesitant to give you another pass even with the receipt because they assume you didn't really lose it and you're just going to give the original pass to other people... I'm assuming provincial parks in BC don't have admission fees, so that's what you're comparing the US system to?
Why do you have a portable power battery supply? Your car is a rolling generator! Get a converter and hook it up to the 12 volt battery and leave your car on. Taxi companies that use Prius’s leave them on for months at a time. As your converter drains your battery the car will turn on to charge it back up. We love our Prius. Some people run their off grid homes off their Prius! It will also cool you with the electric air conditioner!
Just a quick tip to minimize your impact on the campsites you are using. Things like hammocks put a large amount of strain on trees and damage their bark. This damage can lead to infections that eventually kill the tree. To prevent this, as u wrap your hammock on the tree put sticks in between the rope to help protect the tree.
There's nothing stopping you from selling or giving away your pass and then asking for another one with the receipt. I worked for WA state parks and we had people all the time with the same issue. And honestly, even buying it twice it's an *amazing* deal.
So many haters, y’all don’t need to say anything if it’s not nice… Anyways Welcome to Washington guys! :) glad you’re in our state and hope you guys have a wonderful stay!!! Love seeing the journey and I’d highly recommend going to Poo Poo Point!
If you guys ever make it to Niagara Falls New York there is some great water management for hydroelectric power a few miles down river called the Niagara Power Project. It creates a lot of sustainable power for the northeast US. They have a free museum thing there as well. There is also a great hiking trail there called the Niagara gorge/Devils Hole State Park.
Check out the Bonneville Dam system on the Columbia (river) between Oregon and Washington. As California's water woes continue, it is likely to be more prominent in the news.
I am sure you know by now there is tent that is pretty good that people call a Habitent. Probably not spelled right but maybe you can find it from that.
Great episode. You mentioned the water issue. Going or coming please take in Lake Mead and give us a first hand look and thoughts on that water Issue. Before or after The Grand Canyon (coming back if that works) You could also check out Lake Powell in AZ near Page for another look at the water of the Colorado. (Bonus treat. Mexican food restaurants on S. Lake Powell Blvd . On top of the hill)
With hundreds of days left to “camp”, I hope you explore a more durable & capable car tent. What you got is what I consider a teaser product to see how it works & if it does what you need with a low price, but disposable nonetheless. I’m sure there’s better options that work with your needs & values. I look forward to seeing the evolution. BTW, I have to agree that food on the road or traveling in general is my biggest challenge, trying to keep a raw diet.
Water related suggestion: hetch hetchy in Yosemite national park. CRAZY story. Basically they flooded a whole valley which is just as beautiful but less famous than Yosemite valley.
Your beers at the end made me think to also warn you of being in your vehicle (even if the keys are not in the ignition) when you’ve been drinking. I’ve heard stories of people being arrested for DUI because they were sleeping it off in their cars after drinking - even though the keys weren’t in and the vehicle was off.
Go check out salt lake before it's all dried up and gone. Hoover Dam could drop like 26 feet, its loosing water as well because lake meade is drying up as 50% of the US goes through a drought.
Maybe you guys could look up how to make a DIY swamp cooler with your little fan. You just add ice to them, and you could keep reusing it and it would be like air conditioning for your car
Since you are in Oregon right now, I recommend hitting up the gorge and possibly even Bonneville Dam near Cascade Locks as you apparently a water nerd :)
You might consider putting your Luci Light string under your car. We have had ground squirrels, etc. crawl up into the engine area ( actually destroyed wiring system in our RAV4). So far it’s worked for us wherever we’ve camped
Water suggestion: if you are coming to then east coast check out the tides at the Bay of Fundy. It isn't water management but it is the highest tide in the world. It nboarders New Brunswick & Nova Scotia. There is a number of amazing camping trails but I personally recommend Cape Split just past wolfville NS. I live in PEI now but do that hike often and have dear loved ones in Wolfville that I visit often if you wanted to meet up to do the hike together I would be happy to come meet you.
That's wild about that pass, but I get it. You could just say you lost it and then have 2 if they arent scanned or recorded or something. I'm in Canada and have a National Parks pass. I've simply shown a picture of my pass and me holding it when I've misplaced it and they've let me in here lol (I've since found the actual one)
Why aren't you running the AC at night when it's hot? Using the auto setting and leaving the car on allows you to stay cool and it uses very little gas. The AC runs off the 12V and the engine will run every 15 - 30 minutes for a minute or two to recharge it. It's a game changer when Prius living in hotter temps!
Hey Levi speaking of water related suggestions at 2:42 & systems you should check out, go to Yosemite National Park and visit *Hetch Hetchy.* You'll definitely learn more about San Francisco's sophisticated & comprehensive water systems and how it was built😀💯
Yeah, I heard Lake Mead (and Lake Powell farther up the Colorado) are in dire straits and there’s talk of letting the Glenn Canyon Damn/Lake Powell go to save Lake Mead before the water levels there, and down the river get so bad that it’s a threat to their ecosystems.
oh wow! i watch you on future proof and coming across this is a lovely surprise. my partner was showing me a viddy about the new prius. i was like awesome, i can camp in it! searched prius car camping and here we are. i'm gearing up to solo car camp and taking a portable power station that i'll charge with a solar panel. i went with an induction cooktop too. i'm thinking that since i'll only be camping for a few days, i should be okay power wise. the induction cooktop set to 900 watts takes 8 minutes to boil water and uses up 12% of the battery. the solar panel charges the power station back to 100% in less than an hour. the power station allows pass through charging, but i haven't tried it yet. i'm new here, and wondering if you could share more or maybe links to videos about your experiences with the induction cooktop and keeping the power station charged? p.s. i love your lights! they make your setup look so very cozy.
I was wondering how you guys were doing during these heat waves. I’ll have to try that fan. I went camping last weekend and the heat was too much for me this time.
Are you guys running the AC at night to decrease the temperature and improve air flow? I have a 2012 that I can sleep in comfortably on a hot night while keeping it on. The ev battery sips about a gallon.
Do you have a cover/cage for your catalytic converter? Priuses are high risk for theft here especially in the West. 😐
Very good pick up 🙌🏿🔥, i remember Nikki Delventhal had to get a custom frame cover thing for hers.
Good point. My cousin had hers stolen in the middle of the day in a public parking lot in California.
Good catch! The org I work for got 4 stolen on our company vehicles! 😳

Thank you for sharing this journey with us, you guys are living the life with your setup!! It's a always such a good feeling to have a good set up and get it to work almost perfectly with all the little comforts! Exploring doesnt have to equal uncomfortable sleeps! Travel Safe! Washington is a gem!
Love dams! Haha thanks so much for the comment my friend 🙋🏻♂️❤️
If you are coming through Oregon see Crater Lake! Old volcano that blew and left a crafter that filled with rain water...Beautiful!
Washington native in Seattle… Be sure to visit the Coulee Dam while in WA.
Stay for the light show!
Leah with the ambiance is exactly how I would feel. Love your journey and seeing all the bumps along the way.
The way Leah looks at Levi is very beautiful. Very beautiful couple. God bless you guys! Keep it up! From Brazil with love.
Watching the end part where you saw Victoria, so here I am waving at you from there! Safe travels 👋🏻
For a fun water feature with some hikes, I recommend the Old Mission Dam east of San Diego. It was the dam built by the Spanish in the 18th century, and is now in Mission Trails Regional Park. I'd avoid going in the summer though, it's hot!
Love seeing your travels and how you deal with different experiences. Your off-grid tools are so cool. Looking forward to the next.
Tahquamenon Falls in Michigan is BEAUTIFUL!
Rainier cherries perfect for Mt Rainier Park! I love my Prius!
Parks pass @0:32
I think the reason they do this is because people will randomly say they lost it so they can get a free one. I used to work at a print shop, FedEx Office, and I saw people quite often come in to make a copy of the pass and we'd have to turn them away because they aren't allowed to do that. People are not honest here. Welcome to America! lol
Car temp/fan @7:49
I've been using this fan for my desk while I work from home and I don't know what I did without it. It's cheap but it really works! It obviously collects dust but it's easy to clean - just get a can of air and blow on the blades, or sit it outside on a super windy day. Just make sure to secure it obviously, as it's so light weight lol
Cooking @11:44
You should check out Mav here on TH-cam. His videos are all about camping in his truck and his setup is amazing. His videos might be able to offer some other ideas for you in your setup too. I really love how low waste you both are! It's inspiring ❤I know with big propane tanks you can refill them, so there might also be a way for the small ones too? Not sure though.
Lighting @13:28
This is so cuuuuuute!! What a brilliant idea 😍 and your reactions are priceless
Dinner @14:50
I know those veggie dogs anywhere. Hope you loved them!
Everett, WA @16:02
I'm so bummed you came to Washington, even in my area, and I had no idea! People pee on it 😊
Hope you enjoyed your time in Washington!
Haha thanks so much for this comment! We loved our time in Seattle! Such a fun (and weirdly familiar) city!
If you find yourself in eastern idaho you HAVE to hike the upper palisades. Tons of camping around that area too
When in Vegas for the Hoover Dam - an under appreciated spot is Springs Preserve and NV History museum - just a hop from the Strip across from, wait for it, the water department 🙂
WATER DEPARTMENT YOU SAY!? haha thanks for this!
The tent is the way to go. When you need to replace it, get one that has a bigger awning area.
Agreed! A little enclosed area off the back would be luxury
If you come to Alabama or the southeast in general we have an incredible bio diversity in our local ecosystems sometimes compared to that of the Amazon. One of the few positive things about living in Alabama
I use portable twig rocked stove for real back up,u can get ones where you can charge phone or run a fan on
Love following your journey! Thank u for the awesome content 🤙🏼
You folks are really funny, I simply enjoy watching your car camping adventures.
Thanks for being here! 🙋🏻♂️
LOL!!! I "liked" the video at 0:54. Thank your for being so adorable.
Good info! Thanks for this! 🙏🏼
There's nothing stopping you from selling or giving away your pass and then asking for another one with the receipt. I worked for WA state parks and we had people all the time with the same issue. And honestly, even buying it twice it's an *amazing* deal.
So many haters, y’all don’t need to say anything if it’s not nice…
Anyways Welcome to Washington guys! :) glad you’re in our state and hope you guys have a wonderful stay!!! Love seeing the journey and I’d highly recommend going to Poo Poo Point!
Haha love this sentiment (and the recommendation lol)
If you guys ever make it to Niagara Falls New York there is some great water management for hydroelectric power a few miles down river called the Niagara Power Project. It creates a lot of sustainable power for the northeast US. They have a free museum thing there as well. There is also a great hiking trail there called the Niagara gorge/Devils Hole State Park.
Hey u both got a Really Nice set up ! I'm curious to know which brand inverter/Battery system you use ??
OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK - the most beautiful but also wettest part of WA. Crater Lake you'll also def have to go to
Also the OG REI in Seattle
We went there to fix the stove actually! What a store! 😳
I hope you got to hike in/around Leavenworth! The Alpine Wilderness and the Enchantments trail is so pretty there.
Check out the Bonneville Dam system on the Columbia (river) between Oregon and Washington. As California's water woes continue, it is likely to be more prominent in the news.
Good on you Dennis for drinking soda.
Obsessed with the “Camp Hoo Ha” tshirt 🥰
With hundreds of days left to “camp”, I hope you explore a more durable & capable car tent. What you got is what I consider a teaser product to see how it works & if it does what you need with a low price, but disposable nonetheless. I’m sure there’s better options that work with your needs & values. I look forward to seeing the evolution. BTW, I have to agree that food on the road or traveling in general is my biggest challenge, trying to keep a raw diet.
love your contents! btw how is the Napier sports cove doing? is it still working or did you get something else?
Water related suggestion: hetch hetchy in Yosemite national park. CRAZY story. Basically they flooded a whole valley which is just as beautiful but less famous than Yosemite valley.
Your beers at the end made me think to also warn you of being in your vehicle (even if the keys are not in the ignition) when you’ve been drinking. I’ve heard stories of people being arrested for DUI because they were sleeping it off in their cars after drinking - even though the keys weren’t in and the vehicle was off.
Thank you! We’ve become a lot more careful about that lately because of similar stories. 😬
Be sure you check out the LA River if you like water management.
Can not blame Levi for those love taps in the Parks office, at all. Always love to watch this adventure you've embarked upon!
Look at then consider buying some of the aerosol, water proofing for your tent cover.
I’m dying at the Camp Hoo-Ha shirt 😂😂😂
Great video and greetings all the from down under . :)
Wow great tip!
Rifle falls in Colorado!! Went there with my wife and it was beautiful!!
Glad you got the hatch tent. Looks a bit like a covered wagon from the Oregon Trail days.
Haha yes! Love that comparison
Definitely check out Yosemite and hetch hetchy!
Hey Levi speaking of water related suggestions at 2:42 & systems you should check out, go to Yosemite National Park and visit *Hetch Hetchy.* You'll definitely learn more about San Francisco's sophisticated & comprehensive water systems and how it was built😀💯
"All we do is hike" Tell me your from BC without telling me your from BC hahaha
Fantastic watch as always.
Really loved to watch your videos guys, I actually have this car and as well I have plan to go this kinda trip, got so much inspiration ❤
That’s awesome! It’s a great little adventure vehicle 👍🏼
Leah’s tshirt is everything 😂😂😂😂😂
I was wondering how you guys were doing during these heat waves. I’ll have to try that fan. I went camping last weekend and the heat was too much for me this time.
What do you guys think about the new prius? I'm really considering it..looks like a more reliable tesla model 3 to me.
Less room than older Prius, someone can update
Are you guys running the AC at night to decrease the temperature and improve air flow? I have a 2012 that I can sleep in comfortably on a hot night while keeping it on. The ev battery sips about a gallon.
Yeah we’re hoping to avoid that whenever possible but when it gets hot out it’s going to be necessary I think.
