The fruit is a mamey. You can blend it with banana, papaya, and a little bit of milk to make a licuado (similar to a smoothie). I'm from Mexico and my mom used to drink it a lot when she was pregnant with me :)

I took some inspiration from you guys and turned my Subaru station wagon into a camper for a three week road trip around New Zealand and now I’m hooked! I found that the hardest part of car camping is not having any head room except for in the drivers seat so relaxing was a bit hard but I just booked an occasional night in an air bnb and the trade off of being in a car that was literally a dime a dozen in most areas I was visiting is that I was able to stealth camp in towns and main streets which would be impossible in a van or RV due to freedom camping being illegal in NZ.

    • @LeahandLevi

Yeah that’s why good weather and a hammock is such a huge bonus 👍🏼 glad you are making it happen!

Why is sleeping in vans or RV's banned at NZ?

    • @Ayoutubehandleishere
      @Ayoutubehandleishere ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@HolaBrazil It’s not banned but rather your vehicle has to have a specific registration to say it meets the standards for freedom camping. And then you have to camp in designated areas. If you camp outside of the zones or your vehicle doesn’t have a self contained registration you could be fined

@@HolaBrazil We had an influx of tourists not respecting out countries environment, New Zealanders have a saying 'leave only footprints'. This policy ensures that our countries beauty has the best chance at staying that way for years to come and future proofing the tourism industry which so many small towns rely on.

That's a "MAMEY", it's a kind of "zapote", there are other similar fruits such as "zapote blanco", "zapote negro" and "zapote niño" (which inside colour is like baby's poo). It's one of my favourite fruits and I haven't seen it anywhere else. In Veracruz, where I'm from, is very common and we make it into "nieve" which is like a kind of sorbet. I recommend that you try it as a smoothie, you're gonna love it with coconut milk or even with water. Keep enjoying Mexico!

I originally started dipping my toes in the water that is travelling about a year back with a Dodge Grand Caravan. There were some hurdles, but it was manageable. I decided that there wasn't enough room, so I sold it and bought a Ford E-350 shuttle bus instead, and boy was that the wrong move.
I had a lot of cool ideas for it, and I worked on it for a couple of months, but the simplicity of ease of use of the van was far superior. I could not agree with you guys after having watched this video. I am actually now looking into getting a Prius to travel in! Isn't life funny that way! 🙃

I pick up my 2017 Prius V next week. First trip planned, straight South from Seattle to Oaxaca (or wherever). And maybe beyond. The V is a bit bigger than the rest. Rear window is more vertical. I'll sleep in it. Get that tent for the back. Get a cargo box---something cool. Tinted windows. Zip on down the road. I think about ferrying from Panama to Colombia. Maybe.

Another possible reason why your Prius battery dies...I think you turn on the Prius to roll down windows but don't turn the Prius to Run mode. Run mode engages the engine to turn on which charges the battery while on. If you turn off the car electric fans and electronics in run mode. The Prius last longer without the engine kicking over to charge the hybrid battery. To engage Run mode you have to press the brake when starting the car. Otherwise if you press start without the brake the car is only engaged with the 12volt and not the hybrid system on. This will prevent the battery from dying.

I love your videos, and you are 100% right on every points. I live part time in a minivan. Just one mistake in your title; your hashtagVanlife. Vanlife are not what those RVs are doing. Minivans are, and every converted vehicule under 20 feet (I think). Most of them have all the advantages of your Prius, plus a little bit more comfort. In my Dodge Grand Caravan I have the luxury of a portable flush toilet. But I am still just a "car" while I travel and doing #Vanlife !

Plywood isn’t meant to be use in places where there is a lot of water unless you use marine grade finishes. You should have used solid wood (and marine grade finish) or heavy sheet metal (painted) or angle iron welded together with a heavy gauge mesh/grate for the flat surface so it drains water. Painted, of course.

    Just found your channel --
I recently bought a Kia SUV with exactly the same rationale (re upfront costs of buying and building out a van, as well as the costs of operating). Easy enough to sleep inside the Sorento, especially for 1 person and if I wanted a roof-tent for nicer weather could be added at the expense of the stealth factor.
I'm kind of torn, however, as I'm sure you know, a car cannot serve as a "suite" for those more isolated or colder windy conditions. Of course the $$$ saved could pay for many a hotel or AirBnb.
Sub'ed and I'll be watching your channel while I try to decide if a small van with a pop-top or a truck with a wedge topper might serve me better. I'm thinking Pan-American Hwy to Ushaia, but want to spend lots of time all along the way, getting to know places where I could see living out my retired days...
I'll take any advice under consideration -- a bit nervous about travel within Mexico,
    Cheers!....from North Vancouver

Her school uses Ford Transit vans, cheaper, but I’m 5’8-5’9 and my head bumps against the roof standing in the middle, that might drive Levi nuts since I think he’s over 6 feet?

You need to find a solar trickle charger. They tend to be less than $100 USD.

I’d rather pay a little more for comfort, you can’t put a price on comfort. I get where you are coming from though. I’d have to have a canopy that fits over the vehicle. Would be great for keeping the vehicle cool and a canopy can be reasonably priced.

I just asked this on your Short 😅, but I was wondering since you're crushing the van lifing with a Prius, are you guys ever gonna have plans to do a full van / SUV conversion? and your tour around NAm, will that just be a tour or are you both fully gonna go #vanlife?

I’m not sure what our next rig will be after this but we know that we want some more room and luxuries of home so we will be going bigger for sure. 👀
