I was 19 years old when I first went there in 1964. It was an amazing mall. I shopped there all the time. It was considered a pretty high end mall at the time. I shopped at Bullock's all the time. That used to be one of the best stores around.
I worked at Fox for 37 years, I was sent to that mall hundreds of times. I retired in 2011, can’t believe all the changes since then. Maybe you could find the old photos of the backlot when Fox was in its prime. The history of film work on that site is something. Thank you for your video I loved it.❤
Bob's Big boy restaurant? Are you sure about that? My friends and I grew up in Cheviot Hills which was adjacent to century City and we have been going there since 65 or so and we don't remember ever seeing a Bob's Big boy restaurant. I think that would have stood out to us. But thanks for the great video.
In the SW corner, there must have been a 1 floor clothing store back in the 70’s and early 80’s that went out of business. The space was rented out during the holiday season for “The Christmas Store” and apparently Nancy Regan shopped there. My mother “HAD” to go there so one night we drove from Camarillo (our home burned last week,,,, we sold it 30 years ago, but still). That corner later became the theaters and I think later the Container Store and who knows what it is now. I worked for The Nature Company in Beverly Hills and we had a store there. Lots of great memories. I knew where to always find a parking sport in the lower NW corner of the garage. I remember Bullock’s with their Wood Slat walls in the escalator area,,,, at least 20 years later, after becoming Macy’s the same wood was there only painted white. Oh and the same tile floors haha.
I remember strolling through the old mall when I was a college student. The Westfield mall has a confusing “layout“, but still has many high end stores.
Thanks for bringing back memories of this mall! I fondly remember Clifton’s Cafeteria and worked at Bullock’s for a short time. Nice to know of the updates and revisions, it was always known as an upscale shopping place.
Great video - brought back great memories. I worked at the two greatest stores of the "old" Century City Mall - Oggetti and Brentanos. I barely recognize the new mall that they have created.
I worked from 1994-2000 on Avenue of the Stars, and spent a lot of time there; lunch at the Dive or the food court (I taught my visiting little sister not to outwardly notice the actors and celebrities who might pass by) or picking up some books or other items.
Hello Eric, incase you didn’t understand my comment from last episode, I’ll explain it. So basically you are the developer for an abandoned mall and you have to revive it with some old but some new stores as well. For example Chapel Hill Mall, anchors: Macy’s, Dick’s JCPenney, and some smaller stores and restaurants you’d think would fit the mall. However it must be the same size, so an 1 level abandoned mall with 6 anchors a food court, and movie theater must have 6 anchors, 1 level, a food court, and a movie theater. You can even ask your viewers what stores should go in there. As the first episode, I would like Rolling Acres Mall in Akron, and here are store recommendations: Anchors: JCPenney Macy’s Nordstrom Dick’s Sporting Goods Either Primark or Round 1 (Your Choice) Food Court: Chick-Fil-A Taco Bell Burger King Wendy’s Auntie Anne’s Sbarro Jersey Mike’s Movie Theater: AMC Other stores: H&M Old Navy Barnes & Noble Champs Apple Foot Locker And Many More.
Thinking of this mall reminds me of RockSugar…Cheesecake Factory’s pan asian restaurant. Ate there a few times. Really good food in a very cool setting. Shame it didnt catch on and open more locations. Maybe do an episode on RockSugar or even Grand Lux Cafe…there used to be one at the Beverly Center.
It is interesting how you show clips of scenes from malls in movies at the beginning of your video and you completely leave out the fact that Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes was filmed almost entirely at the mall for most of the outdoor scenes unlike those few scenes you showed which were only very short scenes and did not encompass the majority of the films.

It's currently a very successful mall. I read it's over 95% leased, which is a very, very large figure these days with all the dead malls in the U.S.

What happened to the time capsule buried right outside the Broadway dept. store?
I remember to the east of Avenue of the Stars was Harry's bar and grill. Up the escalator was the Playboy club.
You should Check The El Monte Valley Mall in El Monte California
thank you for the suggestion

Weird computer generated voice
The computer generated voice says thank you. I guess they should use my voice when it comes to using AI, right?
