4x4 TOYOTA SUNRADER BUILD | PART 4 - PAINTING

  • With the fiberglass done on Amelia she looked like an old quilt. Large patches of raw fiberglass stood out like a sore thumb on her. After exploring all our options we decided that painting Amelia ourselves was our best choice. It made sense financially and with the rolling and tipping method we were able to do it without much mess. We are thrilled with the finished product and can't wait to get the rest of her done now! If you'd like to see more details about the process check out the link to the blog post below. Enjoy!

    A professional is just someone who gets paid for the job. It doesn't mean they're really good at it. I think we confuse professional with expert too often. Glad to see you stick to your guns. Love your channel. Thank you!

    The best part of all this is that your doing it all yourself (I mean both of you) the professionals do it for a living you do it out of nessesity which requires some trial and error but in the end it'll be yours and done the way you choose, it's gonna be great, look forward to the next phase

      Yes, it started out of lack of funds, but now that we have done this much ourselves we find that we prefer it this way. Everything that we are working on we have been happy with the results and the timeliness that it is getting done in, everything that we have outside people doing, seems to take forever. In the end it is a pretty amazing feeling to have built up such a wide range of skills!

    As per my comment in your completion video... wonderful! As a purchaser of a very old Lance camper that I had every intention of fixing up, I’ve simply become overwhelmed by what awaits. My question here is: how did you not find window removal terrifying? In other words; getting replacement window seals of the correct nature that you could be absolutely sure would not leak? As my construct is wood, I fear doing irreparable damage and creating more trouble.
    Your thoughts please:
    Thank you!

    Nice work just one question why didn't you spray the paint? Even if you used a electric sprayer I think it would have been easyer. Great work so far guys!

    • @BoundForNowhere
      @BoundForNowhere  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Reason why we went the rolling and tipping method was to protect the other vehicles that were in close proximity to us while we were painting. There just wasn't a place that we had access to that would have given us enough space to feel comfortable spraying.

  • @JavierGarcia-gl3ln
    @JavierGarcia-gl3ln 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do you plan to do any electrical or engine/drive line upgrades?

    • @BoundForNowhere
      @BoundForNowhere  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are going to be starting over withe the electrical in the living area. Most of the mechanical stuff will remain but we might give her a few things here and there. We'll go into the electrical stuff in the Q and A vid!

    How did you and live work wander meet? :)

    • @BoundForNowhere
      @BoundForNowhere  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funny you should ask! They are very near and dear to us. Back in 2015 I think it was, Owen and I reached out to them via IG to ask them some questions since we were about to pull the trigger on a Vanagon. We liked what they were doing, and that they work fulltime on the road like we do. They were kind enough to respond and they shortly after drove through ATL where we were living. We met up and really hit it off, a few months later we had our van finally and they took us out on our first trip and the rest is pretty much history. Being on the road we don't get to see family-family all that often. But @liveworkwander is our road fam and thankfully we run into them a lot and spend a lot of time together.

      that's so cool! i come from a volkswagen family and our family car was a vanagon so i get all warm and fuzzy inside when i see one. so i started following @liveworkwander on youtube and actually that's where i saw you guys :) oh and i just bought myself a vanagon :)

    • @BoundForNowhere
      @BoundForNowhere  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, no. He is currently for sale. He was rebuilt by us to be on the road and we feel like thats where he belongs. We also don't have a place to store him. We left that it was best to sell him.

    • @guitarnutchannel7980
      @guitarnutchannel7980 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can relate. Sometimes you just have to make tough choices with vehicles you love. I actually recently bought an '85 vanagon weekender and most likely will have to sell my beloved split window westfalia bus. I bought the vanagon in part to lessen the blow and so I would at least have a bus to drive and camp in. Now I've seen the light on vanagons, they are really huge and safe-ish compared to old buses lol! Still small though comapred to that sweet Sunrader of course. I wish you well and look forward to your progress and adventures!

      Yeah the Vanagons have a surprising amount of space in them by comparison! For us we just need a bit more space for work and the ability to stand. We started getting really uncomfortable when winter set in last year and were not able to pop our top for 3 months. Day in and day out without being able to sit outside or stand just got to be too much for us.
