3:49 Those mattresses are in better nick than the one I'm lying on now watching this!
Thank you boys for a craic-er of an explore.
What you said in the Outro saved me from typing out the same thoughts. Mystical, magical, real.
What a waste.
Excellent pun.
Just to clarify that this isn't in Northern Ireland but in the North of ROI - probably wouldn't have been many schools in NI with Irish language signage back then. This was used as the main boarding school for boys from the offshore islands 'nearby' (they weren't very nearby) and it was hated by pretty much everyone who had to be separated from their parents to go there. The main islands now have secondary schools of their own
Thanks for the information :)
Where is it?
Halla is Irish for Hall
Gorgeous building and a video that compliments it well.
Thanks mate
That wasn't just an Atari Keyboard, that's the entire computer there, Atari 520ST. Likely from the music school days as they were a cheap way to do midi.
I was about to comment the same. A lot of excellent music was made on those in the early to mid 90s.
@@TB-us7el still have my ST E
@@tipsy1973 Nice, what about an Amiga, ever have one of those?
Very cool, glad we spotted it as it was hidden away. Thanks for informing us
Thanks Lads for the past 6 weeks of constant videos. It was sad to see this building just slowly rotting away, yet at one time if would have been full of young kids trying to get a good start to life. Thanks for all your hard work
Always sadder when it's a place that provided for the community. I totally understand. Thank you
1760s! Wow that is crazy. This was fascinating.
One of the oldest schools we've seen!
Interesting how ferns and ivy are the 2 pants that seem to get into decayed sites first.
Yes, I'm not sure why! Perhaps it's where they thrive more than other plants
@@Urbandoned I suppose they are two of the plants on the lower end of the plant ladder so to speak. Lichen (my personal favourite are at the bottom with mosses and then ferns which love the damp and the longer it’s left the more soil you begin to get aand end up with small plans like ivy, then a small holly and trees. Nature just takes over eventually
10:11 "An Halla Mór" is indeed Irish for "The Great Hall". 😻
Thanks for educating me ;)
This would have been luxury compared to most boarding schools in the republic
I just feel sad for All those kids their parents sent away. Must have been a horrible lonely time.
Beautifully shot, keep up the good work! An Atari ST too!
Will do :)
Really sterling work, the care in both the exploration and editing of the videos really shows. Commercially I reckon this summer push will also be well worth the extra effort and you'll be deservedly above the 100k mark soon!
Really appreciate it! Hopefully we can hit it this year :)
Those ferns growing were amazing. Shame it’s crumbling.
Tragic!
hi Abandoned from Australia I have enjoyed your video content and all the places you have explored this video that you have shown of the old boarding school was great it was a shame that it was fall inside and collapsing and nature has taking it back hope to see you soon in the next video
Hello! Glad that you found interest in the video
Thank you Guys for another Friday Treat. I really love your channel and presentation - enough to be informative and interesting without duplicating rooms. You channel holds a uniqueness to hold the viewers interest while providing a documentary and time lapse in real time. All the best M
Great to hear, thank you for the kind comment
"An Halla Mor" in the atrium means "The Great Hall". It's a shame these places are just left to deteriorate. Lots of the furnishings and objects are valuable and could be repurposed. The fireplace surround at 16:42 would be very valuable. Probably has lots of asbestos, lead paint and mould that would need to be removed.
Excellent, was hoping for this comment! Definitely contained it's fair share of hazardous materials in the school
Great video guys it’s pity such an old place left too rot away
Cheers :)
Regarding your comment on structural integrity don’t forget that the older part of the building had been built a much longer time ago than the modern stuff and at an educated guess was probably at least in some state of disrepair long before the whole thing was closed.
100%! It was interesting to see a slight difference even between the modern dormitory block and the older school region, let alone the tragic state of the manor
Great explore 👍🏻
i love the natrual decay its so beautiful i love your videos aliastar
Thank you :)
Hi Alistar how are you doing mate? Great video as always well edited with perfect background music added in the explore around this abandoned boarding school plus this is the last video every week for 6 weeks this summer i want to say thanks for the amazing videos each week for the 6 weeks of constant videos uploaded to the channel through the summer, its a real shame that this boarding school has been hidden and abandoned for a long time in really poor condition plus falling down in places but kind of stripped plus empty was cool to find the old washing machines still inside the washing room as these could still be used also was really cool to see some of the old fashioned computers and crt pc monitors still inside the building sitting there gathering dust and yellowing in places but where the stairs was the paint is coming off plus the plaster is coming off the ceiling too really sad that in the 2000s it was shut for good plus left derilict for ages anyways hope your having a good afternoon so far Alistar and keep up the great content on your channel as its so enjoyable to watch 👍
Cracking pal. Glad you enjoyed the video and the releases through Summer. Yes, the artefacts remaining in the school were interesting to see, especially because they were coated in decay
Another quality explore lads.
Thanks!
Great video. Some lovely features in the building. Looks very unsafe now though.
Not in the best state unfortunately! There were many areas we couldn't access due to collapse
Shame its left to rot and fail down great vid as normal
Against a background of rampant decay somebody has been visiting to mow the lawns.
I think it's because its situated on a public park, but it is quite the contrast!
This it gonna be very difficult to restore.
I mean what if they turn it to an apartment inside?
Hi where is this located
That piano won't work. You can see some of the keys are stuck. Damp will have damaged the wood.
An halla mòr=The big hall (Gaeilge/Irish). Aye, memories🥲
Too bad the old part is in such a bad condition. It would look really beautiful if it weren't collapsing.
Shame, everything has a shelf life, would of thought it could have been saved
When will you hear of the results of your project Alistair?
Very soon! Apologies for the delay
Jesus an ST
I want to Do what you are Doing
Let me get this right, you go round entering abandoned buildings illegally (you know its illegally because in this video you mentioned having to avoid the cameras to gain entry), and your uploading your illegal activities on TH-cam? Do I have this right?
!!!
Please stop the jump cuts such as at 1:32. This is very reminiscent of videos from Retardistan - aka 'Murrica. It's not a good style.
