- For my 1184th review, not only is 'The Owl' easily the worst thing the Zac Brown Band ever made, it might just be among the worst projects of any genre released by a mainstream label in 2019.
Best Songs: 'Someone I Used To Know' or 'Me and the Boys in the Band' (it's a tossup which annoys me least any given hour...)

This album is essentially Marshmello and Kane Brown's One Thing Right (a song Mark put as a worst of the week in an episode of Billboard Breakdown) as an album rather than a single.

Why didn’t Zac Brown experiment with electronic music with Sir Rosevelt to figure out what works and then bring it to the band.
Absolutely! That's what any artist would do. This sounds like the label got involved and forced him to make it awful so they can make more money instead of him keeping his artistic integrity.

I would say that Tangled Up isn’t really a country album, but then again, this isn’t either, so...
Technically this is the lowest now, Tangled Up was a solid 2/10 but he gave this one a Light one

I commented on Grady Smith's review of this album that the lyrics in OMW sound like something that Lil Pump would have wrote. It's Gucci Gang levels of stupid, and that is quite disappointing coming from the band that made Colder Weather.
Well apparently Zac decided it would be a good idea to release a solo album entitled "The Controversy"

I genuinely have never hated an album more than The Controversy. Time is the only song I can actually listen to and even then, it’s not THAT good.

But seriously, listen (or don’t it’s ok) to Zac Brown’s solo album he released in ‘response’ to the hate called The Controversy. I genuinely never hated an album more in my life and outside of Time which isn’t bad, the rest of the album is unlistenable.

Worst Tracks: “Swayze”, “Always and Never”, “Dream Sellin”, “The Lion’s Den”, “Spend It All On You” (these are the ones that caused pain the most. Pretty much every other song that isn’t mentioned is absolute garbage)

I'm almost positive Zac Brown got his body invaded by Lil Dicky like in that Freaky Friday song. That's really the only good explanation for this album I can think of.

One of the most relieving things about the comment section here is that there's no apologist for this dumpster fire of an album to be found. When even your fans are saying that your album is garbage, you done screwed up.
Go over to the lyrics videos for Zac Brown's songs. All the ZBB apologists are over there defending songs like "God Given" and even Zac Brown's mess "Swayze"
As a long time ZBB fan who fell madly in love after listening to The Foundation, saying this album is disappointing is an understatement. I’ve seen them several times in concert, proudly wear their shirts, and brag about their incredible musicianship, harmonies and awesome live show - until now. I’ve decided not to spend my hard earned money on any of their music, merch or concerts until they start making music again that actually makes me proud to say I’m a fan. The only explanation I can think of for this album is Zac has turned into a complete ego maniac who’s decided that him and the band are going to become the next EDM/pop sensations, while still retaining their core fan base (folks who enjoy their earlier work and have spent lots of money over the years getting them to where they are today). Outside of a few exceptions, this generally doesn’t work out well for the musician. If somebody is going to successfully cross over, they need to go about it in a way that isn’t so tone deaf - quite literally... Note to Zac, people who are really into EDM probably won’t be clamoring to listen to this. This isn’t going to be playing at the clubs. And people who DON’T like EDM are going to be completely turned off and annoyed by your blatant attempt at trying to get new fans (aka fans other than the ones who have gotten you to where you are today. I know I already touched on that, but it really chaps my hide....) I also can’t believe the band, which are incredibly talented musicians, would go along with this. The only explanation I can figure out for that is they think they’ll still make a bunch of money on tour, based on their previous work and reputation for being exceptional live performers. They’ve got bills to pay like everybody else, and have probably gotten use to the money from belonging to a successfully touring band, so they just went along with it. So for now, I’ll only be wearing my ZBB shirts at home, hoping this is some kind of a phase and we get back to the old ZBB. I’ll always enjoy a lot of their earlier work. It’s just really disappointing that such an amazing collective group of musicians with such incredible skill and talent have been dumbed down to this awful piece of work.
The Zac Brown Band has slowly been turning into the “country” version of Maroon 5, especially with Brown’s desire for experimentation
I have made the same comment. All of maroon 5 videos they are playing instruments that obviously aren't being used on the track. ZBB is going down the same road.

I had a feeling Zac Brown would jump the shark...this album is terrible so disappointed in the band like yeah when he criticized Luke Bryan and bro-country a few years back I thought at first he definitely was right because at the time the band was the only pure country act at the time but when he started genre bending on Jekyll & Hyde I thought “what a fucking hypocrite” so no surprise that he did this
And this is coming from a big fan of the zac brown band like Mark and even when I thought he was a hypocrite when they did Jekyll & Hyde it was at least interesting and decent and Welcome Home was a return to form in country but I heard Someone that I used to Know and I was just like “what the actual fuck??” This is NOT the band I know and this entire album is just BAD on so many levels I agree guys avoid it like the plague

This is one of the most disappointing albums I have ever heard, and this is a band I would say that is one of my favorite bands of all time; I definitely agree with a lot of what you said

I had to laugh when the band tweeted that this album is "the raw authenticity our fans expect but also explores the unexpected". There's nothing authentic or even vaguely real about "The Owl", Zac! By god it did explore the unexpected of how intolerably shit "The Owl" is musically and lyrically.
Isn't anyone else tired of these songs claiming God gave girls their asses? Thomas Rhett, Zac Brown Band etc...It's pure creepy IMO.

Is it just me or was there very audible clipping on this album?
Why did I listen to this album after you told me to stay away?! I should’ve heeded your warning, mark! Seriously, even as someone who hasn’t heard a zac brown record before, this fucking sucks! It sucked from the first millisecond of The Woods to the very end. Every track is just a poorly produced, lifeless migraine that ranges from meh to “give me cancer now, god!”, and the lyrics range from incoherent to fuck awful. Special mention to “God Given” which might just be one of the worst ass anthem’s I’ve heard in my life. So to anyone else reading this who wants to give this album a spin, I took the dive so none of you have to, and all I can say is, yes, it really is that bad. Stay as far away from it as you can.
One more thought... instead of “The Owl”, I think a more fitting album name would be “The Bowel”.

From the first single onwards I was worried about this album. I tried listening through it and I couldn't bring myself to finish any songs but the singles, which I had already heard. This is the most shameful atrocity of an album I've ever seen from a band who's other music i love so much.

Easily the most notorious producers that's for sure.
Mustard is good and while Dr. Luke is a horrible horrible person who should rot in hell, his production discography is the stuff of legend.
