Happy New Year! Just want to say thanks so much for the support on this new channel, and for all the feedback. I’m learning lots and excited to share more 💛 I meant to share this video earlier but spent a bunch of time unsuccessfully re-editing to get rid of a copyright claim. So it’s blocked in a few countries, but I’ll dispute the claim so hopefully it gets unblocked eventually!
Not only one of my favorite composers, but one of my favorite movies. I've been obsessed with this soundtrack (and so many of Hans Zimmer's) for years. Love that you did a video on this! Can't wait for more!
One of my favorite parts of the music in this movie is how the theme in the opening mirrors what a day with the Santa Ana winds in SoCal can feel like.
@@NotesWithNicholas ha! Maybe being just any kind of nerd is enough (I'm a mathematician 🥴)! But you definitely do a great job explaining your observations and with your editing. Moments like 8:52 or so where you discuss this bit of music and then play the clip from the movie are perfect for noobs like me :D
This was a lovely watch! It’s refreshing to see you in a different light as opposed to your normal content. Your passion for music is wonderful to see! Odd question, but what’s the stand for you glasses? Asking for a friend 😅
Thank you so much! And I got the glasses stand at a craft fair, you can check out the vendor on Instagram at instagram.com/_.liezl._ It doesn't look like they have an online shop but it says to DM for purchases! I love it 💜
Thank you for having subtitles at the very beginning of your channel! Most would not do that so it is wonderful to see. I do not need them but really appciate it. The first use of Iris's and Jasper's theme together reminds of "I Will Never Love Again" from the Princess Bride. I am unsure why, it may be because they share the same somberness.
Oh yeah of course, honestly it’s really easy since TH-cam does most of the work. I basically just watch through it once afterwards to add punctuation and fix any mistakes ✌️ And yes I love the Princess Bride soundtrack! Also a great example of using guitar to lend a lot of intimacy and tenderness to the score ☺️
This is one of my favorite movies!! I love a good overture, and I love this analysis! It points out so many things that we subconsciously experience but never really notice. Everything fits together so well.
More Channel, yes More Channel! Mr. Zimmer is a rock star! IMHO! This film I loved. Period. It is always music that takes you on a journey. This film is underated. Thematic is most important. When, who, where, why and not last what... What is up on the screen must be also heard. Happy New Year All!
Was just thinking there was some similarity between this and interstellar (just as pirates of the carribean and gladiator have melodies in common) but thought I might be making connections where there weren't any. So glad to see you agreed with me! Great content, hope to see you do more like this. Will watch your wicked one next as I've just finished that too!
Really interesting details about the film’s score and how the music relates to character arc’s. I just found your channel yesterday and immediately subscribed. Happy New Year.
Happy New Year to your as well Sir Nicholas! Just discovered your channel the other hour so it's nice to come across your content of media and reflection. In a way, I can say that I have now been a fan of your channel for two years haha!
Great second vid/improvements, and happy new year! 🎉 So re: copyright claims...I was worried for you before I even saw your comment, lol. 😅 Not sure if your claims were primarily audio/video or both, but here are a few suggestions if you'd like: Re: video, make it smaller and do the video in video method found in most review vids. Re: audio, you can tweak the pitch slightly (in daw, or by speeding up/slowing down clips ever so slightly in video editor), or try to use shorter clips (no more than a handful of seconds) and talk more frequently in between them. Hopefully the above helps to get rid of some claims going forwards! Also as I'm sure you know with your music vids, even if claimed, yt doesn't usually block unless it's a full-sized clip with no alterations, so the above should help regardless. Looking forward to more vids in the future. Good luck! 🤗
Awe thanks so much and thanks for the tips too 🙏 I think for this video the claim was more for the movie. On my Wednesday video I cut down the audio to the point where people were complaining that the clips weren't long enough, but it still got copyright claimed. The only difference is that it's not blocked in any countries, so maybe it just depends on who is making the claim and what their defaults are? With this video I also tried to re-edit it a few times. Eventually it got to the point where the flow was really choppy and it still was getting claimed and blocked, so I just uploaded the original anyway haha 😅 Anyway I think I can just dispute the claims, I'm glad you're able to watch the video though!
Great video once again!! 🎊. Really amazing attention to detail 🎶. If you do end up wanting to get "more muscular" I am glad to use some of my gym passes for you to fulfill this endeavor hahaha
Back when Hans was still writing good music. I’ve been a long time Hans Zimmer fan, as far back as Black Rain. Now?!?? NOW, he’s doing the same 💩 over and over. Hans has even said he’s no longer interested in writing beautiful music. Disappointing.
I didn't know he said anything like that! I definitely think his recent scores are really interesting (like Dune) even if they're not beautiful in the same way that The Holiday's score is

@@ahnasimmons468 that’s amazing, thanks so much for following along and wishing you the best with your music too ✨
Good job!! Hope u can do 米津玄师- Kick Back!! It is such a good song damn

Glad others are obsessed with this soundtrack too! Thanks for watching 😊

Oh yes totally! There’s even a part later on where Iris mentions the Santa Ana winds
Dude this was awesome. Love the attention to detail on everything. Very clean. Love the passion and enthusiasm
Really appreciate that, thanks so much and happy new year! 🥳
One of my favorite new channels man! I know nothing about music and it's fun to learn from your perspective. Cheers 🥂
Wow that means a lot, I was hoping this would be accessible to anyone who isn't already a music nerd but it's hard to tell! Thanks so much 🙏

Haha true, thanks so much and Happy New Year! 😅
The comment “you should be more muscular” made me laugh out loud. Thanks for sharing that one. I had to go back and hear it again.
Haha I think I also laughed out loud 😅
You are awesome happy new year 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Happy new year! 🤗
Oh look, it's almost Christmas again, what a good time for a second analysis of The Holiday if one were to put one out 👀
you should watch Departures a 2008 film from Japan about a cellist who finds himself on difficult times and... has an amazing cello score.
Oh yeah I watched it a few years back and really liked that film and its score! I also recorded a version of the theme but never released it 😅

May i ask what the cello stand being used in the back is? Maybe a link?
Oh yeah the brand is called Ingles! You can probably find it on Amazon or at a local music store 😊
@@NotesWithNicholas thank you very much!

Lol David! I’ll never be as fit as you so it’s not even worth trying 😅
One of my favorite scores right beside Interstellar 😌
Could you please suggest any soundtrack similar to this one?
Errant was here
The gaurdians ost has a beautiful piece if you haven't seen it. I think you might enjoy . m.th-cam.com/video/sDrPHKeZMfI/w-d-xo.html
That was really cool, I hadn’t heard of this show and wasn’t expecting to see Tina Guo there too 🤩 thanks for sharing!
