  • I finally got my 2021 Trek Marlin 7 and had to get it out for a quick ride. The bike rides really nice and I'll do a full review in the future. For now, I just wanted to show a few things including riding down some larger rocks, a really small drop, and getting a little air. I ran into a few problems which I hopefully remedied at the end of this video.

    Your chain is coming off cause your derailer is not locked. The gray clip on your derailer push it up you will see you'll have alot less play in chain. That probably why your chain kept coming off. I have the 2021 Marlin 7 also.

    Hi .... I loved watching your video and that too like dad and son bike riding runs. It's not only entertaining but also informative. I need your help in suggesting me a bike between Trek Marlin 5 and 6 which are 2022 model. I don't know which will serve me better when it comes to commuting as well as hill climb and also mountain biking and gravel riding just like you doing as I need your suggestion in this. Like I don't know if I should buy Marlin 6 with single drive train in the front and 10 on the rear side. Will it still give me some speed while riding on the road and good on hill climb and hill decent on roads or not.
    Please suggest and guide me.
    I'm buying one coming January 2022 and I still can't decide.

    • @DadTechTV

      I might be late replying, so hopefully you got what you needed but here's a few thoughts. Prices of bikes are going up and it's been crazy just to find bikes. the frames on the marlins are all the same so it's just components. If you are looking for speed and commuting on roads, a 5 should be good with more gearing and lower price. If you want to get into more trail riding, thats when you want to start looking at a higher model for the components. For myself as a beginner, riding with beginners, the higher end derailleurs really made a different as far how often or if your chain falls off the bike. The single drive train has been more than enough for me, but as i ride more, and ride faster, i can see how top speed may not be enough for some, especially if you are commuting and riding roads fast.

      @@DadTechTV I got my fav colour that is lithium grey in marlin 5 of 2022 model and its a perfect all rounder. It s giving speed on road and good on trails. I have used a tube to roll ove rthe bar where the chain slaps so its an amazing bike.

      @@DadTechTV Hey so any regrets buying this particular brand/model? I've been researching like crazy (Giant, Specialized, Trek, Marin et al) and of course NONE of these are even available to me, lol. Might come down to whichever one I can find first in my size.

    • @DadTechTV
      @DadTechTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like to research things and to be honest I was set on ordering a vitus nucleus based on what you get for your money. Those need to be ordered online from the UK. After a few times of being notified they were in stock, clicking to get one, and then seeing they were already sold out, I decided to go with the Trek Marlin 7. There is surely an argument as to why you should or should not buy one or the other big name bikes that fall in the category you want but to be honest they are all pretty close in spec and price. The biggest factor for me (aside from what I could order and receive in less than 6 months) was the local bike shop. If you have a local bike shop, close to you, I think going with what they have is a good choice. I brought my bike in after about 2 months of riding. They tightened things up, adjusted the derailleur, cleaned it up a bit, and there was no additional cost. For me, that support is worth more than saving a few a dollars ordering something online. No regrets on my end. I love the marlin 7.

      @@DadTechTV Ah yes, I totally agree on the LBS aspect, very important. I found a place that will do lifetime tune-ups...they mainly sell Giant. It’s to prevent the chain from really messing up the wheel, and getting stuck if the chain falls off between the gears and wheel. If the derailleur is properly setup that should not happen. But it’s at your own risk if you take it off.

      I was the same way when purchasing the Marlin 7 having not purchased a bike in over 20 years. The Marlin 7 is an excellent choice. However, I would recommend seeing what brands your local bike shop offers. There are many models from different brands that are pretty much identical. It's the expertise of the local bike shop, along with service they provide when needed, that really helps. My local shop is a Trek dealer, so it made the most sense for me, especially since they do basic tune ups for free since I purchased from them. Only other consideration is that if you think you will be doing a lot of trail riding and advancing quickly, maybe look at some bikes that come with additional upgrades (larger tires, dropper posts, 1x12, etc...). Check out my most recent video talking about 3 things i love and 3 things that could be improved on the Marlin 7. th-cam.com/video/p898YlOQGHc/w-d-xo.html

    You were suppose to take that thing off. Some regulation junk I guess, like reflectors. Learn how to adjust your derailleur, (Not to much to know. One screw handles the stop at the top and the other handles the stop at the bottom, and then all you have to do is get the cable tension right so it shifts well up and down with the stops keeping the chain from going to far. Nobody uses those things. Seriously. Just cut it off.
