Had a 2016 lapis blue wrx and was fortunate to have snagged one of the last 2021 STIs new from the dealer last April, just before the crazy markups. I love my WRB STI but man, your car is beautiful and makes me wish I still had lapis blue!
Honestly you build inspires my build so much cause honestly I trust you with buying parts but for me I run the new fortune auto coilovers and the stiffest setting and doesn’t bother me😂 probably because I use to driving old cars😂😂
Reminds me of my c5 corvette when I bought it; I couldn’t get a penny between the tire and fender well. I hated the scraping and I couldn’t really drive the way I wanted to drive because the car was so low and the tires were too fat causing rubbing. Looks great but just not practical for high speed fun.
i used to drive bagged minitrucks and super low static dropped setups, tucking tire static feels like its a bit much anymore. Plus, Iowa roads are garbage. The clearance is nice.
If I was driving the STI everyday, I would definitely raise it a bit. I have the truck to handle the weather and crappy roads, so it’s a bit more forgiving to go as low as I am on the STI. The clearance on the truck is very nice though haha.
How’s jersey with the roads cause here in PA there are way too many potholes to be that low😭. You’d probably break a front lip like everyday especially in the winter roads barely paved
Where I live and drive, the roads aren’t bad. Definitely some bad parts around nj though. Thankfully, I don’t drive this car in the winter so it’s not a concern of mine. If I did daily it, I wouldn’t be this low.
I was not sure if this was addressed. I did watch your install videos for the Fortune Auto's as well as your video reviewing your original Fortune Auto set up. Your insights in why you ran 7k as well as the dampening (clicks) settings were very insightful. Did you ever consider sending in your Gen 5 Coilovers back to Fortune to be rebuilt? Since that is a big selling point for their product.
Would you still recommend the 7k for note of a DD im in New Zealand and options are slightly more limited, looking at getting a set of gen 7 with hyperco springs
Man, besides the coilovers, I need that top end you have lol. Not sure what you're setup engine wise was in this vid. I just got a 2021 STi...my Type R felt a bit faster. Hopefully I can do something to this to see more top end like I'm seeing in your vid
Did you ever drive your car in winter? I just moved from Washington state to Iowa and heard the winter is hell on cars here. My garage queen 2015 STi only has 30k miles and I’d like to not destroy it.
@@Autofreakgarage Yeah I have been looking for an old truck but the used car market is insane. Hopefully a good deal on a daily comes around so I don’t have to worry about it.
Lol I just came back to watch a review on fortune auto for my STi and saw my comment.. I did get a truck and my STi is sitting in storage until spring.. I also saw your for sale ad man I am in the same boat thinking about upgrading to something faster. Btw my lady is jealous of your lady’s telluride ;)
does your steering wheel vibrates just a little bit when driving around pass 60 because you are low? like the more you lower it the more it vibrate because you are closer to the ground. sorry. im just new to the care scene. thanks
No sir. No vibration as you shouldn’t have any no matter what. If it’s shaking at certain speeds, most likely it’s because the wheel needs to be rebalanced. Or if you are running aftermarket wheels, huh rings will remedy that.
@@Autofreakgarage oohh i see. maybe i need a rebalanced because i have fortune auto 500 series just like yours and pass 60 it vibrates but just a little bit. i have the stock wheels.
Hey Scooby I know this is an old video but im planning on buying the fortune auto coils, I know you had swift springs 7k for DD would you recommend Hyperco 7k springs or swift springs 7k for DD. You tried both different rates but you can tell the difference what would you choose for DD brand wise
Looking back on it, I was happier with the swift 7k. They were a bit more comfortable for everyday. I felt the 8k hyperco wasn’t as smooth. Both great options, but I’d probably do the 7k or 8k swifts if I did it again.
@@Autofreakgarage I see, yeah thansk for your input. I mean I dont have a subie, rather a 10th gen Civic Si so I think ill do either 7k front swift and 8k rear, or maybe 7k all around not sure yet. Thanks again also Ill use your code
Heyy man hope your doing well love your videos and they help a lot with a lot of the question I have with my 2015 WRX :), I was wanting to ask would you recommend doing 7k all around and on hyperco springs for DD I do DD my WRX due to work and the roads I drive really go from normal pavement road to sometimes gravel in the countryside and just want to make the ride in switching from both those roads to as comfortable as possible
@@Autofreakgarage thank you so much for the input was also trying to figure out what’s the difference between standard springs and swift springs? Haven’t been able to find someone to clearly explain these, again thank you in advance appreciate you taking the time to get back to me🙏🏼
Swift is just a higher quality spring. Will hold its spring rate for a long time. Cheaper springs tend to soften and break down faster and loose its rate. Glad to help!
@@Autofreakgarage gotcha, so it’s just better to get Swift as it will just be better long term? I’ve learned to not cheap out on these car or it will make you regret it 😅😭
Thanks I recently got a used set of ohlins and was concerned about the ride height, it’s for daily use and I’m going to try to max out the rear to the lowest and match the fronts to that, the fortune autos do look like they handle very nicely for being as low as they are though!!
with your past set up, were you still rubbing? im new to all of this, currently have a stock suspension on my wrx limited and you’ve inspired me to empty out my pockets
Can I ask how do you know what spring rate to pick? I'm trying to select a rate for my 23 gr86 and I can't figure it out. Should I just stick with default? (6k front, 7k rear and the car weighs 2800lbs).
I messeged FA directly and they will give you a sheet to fillout to see what type of driving you will do. I told them 60% daily, 20% autox, 20% tracking and hitting up NC/TN once a year. They reccomended the FA 500 but bumped me up to 7/8. Definetly email them, they are very responsive. I will upgrade my coils next year as I want to learn the car stock. Also have a GR86! Great review also! Gives me confidence to pull the trigger on them when the time is right.

I just installed the Fortune Auto gen 8 500's tonight and I love them. They are way better than my old FactionFab FR SPEC coilovers.

Do the Fortune 500 come close to stock height before adjustment?
I believe they are a bit lower than stock out of the box

Camber? -4.3 front -4.0 rear
Real question: Do you drive with flip flops? My shit gets caught under pedals everytime.
I do, but I take them off always when driving (as seen in this video). Find it easier overall to drive barefoot then with flip flops on.
