Thanks! I agree with your sentiments. There is something to be said fobbing skilled at changing gears yourself. I got to that point before I got the Tuono and was a quickshifter nay-sayer until I finally ended up with a 2012 Triumph Daytona 675R that had one stock. That completely changed my mind about electronics. I eventually converted it to a race bike and was never able to get a blipper, so still had to do the downshifts myself. I wish I could give you an easy answer but I'm not sure. It reverses the shift pattern so you press the shifter down to change up gears, and you lift the shifter up from underneath with your foot to downshift. So you would still need to flex your ankle both up and down. Is it uncomfortable all the time, or only in certain situations like if you're accelerating quickly and need to force the shifter up from underneath with some Gs working against you?
Hi Chad, great video! The tech behind the shifting is explained really well. I'm still a bit unclear on on the downshifts, do you come completly off throttle or just not on throttle? Thanks again
Hey Mike, thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed! The Tuono's blipper will allow you to downshift with the throttle closed or open, but I haven't tried it while accelerating for obvious reasons. I have downshifted with the throttle opened slightly to maintain a constant speed and it was a little jerky, but it worked. The downshifts are much smoother with the throttle completely closed, and are very smooth under heavy braking with the throttle closed. 99.9999% of the time I use the blipper is while decelerating, so the throttle is usually completely closed. Hope that's helpful! 🙂

Is there a certain rpm you should use it over? Thanks
Hey Hisaan, thanks for watching! Mine can be clunky at lower revs sometimes as well, both up and down. I typically just deal with it or use just a little clutch on low rpm downshifts to smooth things out, but the owners manual says the QS can be used above 4k rpm safely.
He man I am just learning about motorcycles in depth.. I got a doubt. When we use quick shift at high rpms the motorcycle makes bang sound , why is it ? My guess is that when the ecu stops some powerstrokes the unburnt fuel in the exhaust is burnt in that few milli seconds . My second guess is that since some powerstrokes are cut off and to overcome the drag and maintain the previous crank rot speed seamlessly , the next powerstroke gets max air fuel ratio , so it produces that paaattt sound ?? Could you please
Most quickshifter systems unload the transmission by cutting the spark. My understanding is that they don't cut the fuel, so some fuel enters the combustion chamber, but is then ejected unburnt, and usually detonates on the hot exhaust pipes, producing the pops/bangs.
Got tuono 2016 and sometimes when I’m not trying to use QS just using clutch it’s cuts my power off for a second and then it’s going , did something like this ever happened to you ?
Can you tell me more? Is it like the QS is still activating even though you’re pulling in the clutch? If you hit the shift lever a fraction of a second before you pull in the clutch, the QS will still cut power.
Pretty much! You still need to use the clutch to put the bike in and out of gear when stopped, and it is not recommended to use quickshift or autoblip below 4k rpm, but other than that, it is very similar.
Yes, you can. The blipper is disabled if the bike calculates an over-rev would be needed to match the wheel speed in the next gear down. I've downshifted from 2nd to 1st gear a bit above 70 mph without issue, stock gearing.
Can you please answer my question If im at 150kmph and at top gear, and now im breaking hard to slow down...now should I blip the throttle for downshifts when even im breaking ( my doubt is while im breaking, the speed of wheel decreases which does not raise rpm levels when i down shift so im thinking no need of blip the throttle to mach engine rpm with wheel speed)
It all depends, but in my experience a small blip of the throttle is usually helpful. Sportbikes have such light flywheels and engines with low revolving mass that revs drop very quickly when you pull the clutch in, even as you decelerate. And if the engine is already at lower rpm, it’s closer to idle and will spin down faster as a result. But again, it’s all a matter of preference. If you have a slipper clutch in your bike, you don’t really need to blip at all, you can just use the clutch lever. If you don’t have a slipper, you will have to modulate the clutch yourself to prevent the rear wheel from chattering on decel, but I have known people who do that. It’s all a matter of personal preference. I’ve found blipping the throttle or using the autoblipper on my Tuono to be most effective.

Hey Karl! Thanks for the compliment! If the bike is brand new, I wouldn’t be surprised if a combination quickshifter/blipper is offered. I would recommend looking on the Triumph forums to see what others’ experienced have been. I know the Daytona 765 Moto2 had a standard QS/blipper, so the technology is definitely there. They're not always perfect, but I would say they are rarely rough. It works better at higher rpm, and best under hard braking from high speed, such as while on a racetrack. Can't even feel it in that type of condition!
Thanks! An S1000R would have a difficult time keeping up with this, but the RR would walk away in a straight line. That said, I'm quite confident I'd be able to get away from quite a few S1000RR owners on the track in the corners on this bike. I've done it before, after all 😉
Having an autoblipper installed? Not necessarily. You will need to change either which side the shifter linkage arm mounted to the transmission shift spindle is on, or which side of the shift lever the linkage is on. Flipping either of those 180 degrees will result in reverse shifting (1 up, 5 down), but you will need to either reprogram the Q/S sensor, or find one that works the opposite way to actuate the QS or auto blip functions (push vs. pull). Hope that helps!

Hey Steven! Than might be an issue with the quickshifter sensor itself. Its in line with the shift rod. I would check the wire and connection. The sensors do fail occasionally, but it doesn’t seem to be too common.
@@hiimchad Thanks, I don't see any issue with it but maybe I will just replace it anyway.
oh and it is only the downshifting, the upshifting works perfect.
@@stevenreeves4766 interesting, I suppose one position of the sensor could be glitching or something? Maybe try turning the blipper off and back on in the aPRC menu, and maybe recalibrating aPRC since those are both easy and free
@@hiimchad I am going to try the calibration to see if that helps. I will let you know how it goes.
I'm about to buy a new street triple and wanted to upgrade to quick shifter. I asked the dealer if this is both ways (up and down shifting) he said yes it's for both ways quick shifting. But if I go to triumph website, quick shifter is not mentioning auto blipper that you mentioned in the video.
Could you please tell me how I can I be sure of the dealer is giving me the correct info?
Thanks for the video mate, Its really informative
I’d also try to clarify with the dealer and set the expectation that you will not be happy if it does not do what they are describing, and call back to that if necessary. Sorry I can’t be of more help here!
@@hiimchad thanks for the recommendation mate. I'll go to forums
@@karlfranz7434 Best of luck! Hopefully the unit does actually enable both.
Is this what’s available for the new Aprilia RS660/Tuono 660?
Hey Darren! The AQS system is standard on the RS660, but I think the Quickshift-down function is an option for the Tuono 660. I did a quick search and tried to find confirmation, but could not. But yes, it is the same system as on the Tuono V4 and it is my understanding that it can be added to a Tuono 660.
@@hiimchad okay thank you for the reply I appreciate it! I’m looking at getting a Tuono 660!
@@darrenwilliams3398 That's awesome! Definitely double-check with your dealer, but I would be surprised if it wasn't at least a dealer-installed option. Best of luck!
I just notice I have to keep my hand on the throttle when I use the QS, if I let off of the throttle and try to use QS it doesn’t want to up shift or engage, it feels like it gets stuck, I was annoyed but now I know y
Glad this video could clear that up for you! 🙂
I will say if your quickshifter goes out... It is atleast a 3 month wait for parts :D i went through that earlier this year.
Oof! I knew Aprilia was backed up on orders like everyone else, but 3 months?! Sheesh! Did you get a replacement yet?
@@hiimchad Yes mine came in halfway through July. Could still ride it, just without the glorious quickshifter.
@@TheBlastband better to ride it without the quickshifter than not to ride it at all! Glad it's finally fixed and you can enjoy the crackle with each upshift from now on. 😁
Mine was faulty too. Missed the whole summer of riding waiting for it to get fixed.
Can you send me a link for those grips you have?
I bought them at my local CycleGear, but if you search “Renthal Soft Superbike grips” on their website I bet they would come up.
Here you go. I use the soft compound: www.cyclegear.com/parts/renthal-single-compound-grips?sku_id=898221
are auto blips rough?
They're not always perfect, but I would say they are rarely rough. It works better at higher rpm, and best under hard braking from high speed, such as while on a racetrack. Can't even feel it in that type of condition!
@@hiimchad i just got a 24 r1 and the down shifts are hard asf when i hit them
Well explained… Good luck when a S1000 pulls up 😈
Thanks! An S1000R would have a difficult time keeping up with this, but the RR would walk away in a straight line. That said, I'm quite confident I'd be able to get away from quite a few S1000RR owners on the track in the corners on this bike. I've done it before, after all 😉
So no clutch anymore?
Just to come to a stop and start to go! No clutch or rev matching required so long as the engine is over 4k rpm.
Having this done on my 2016 RSV4 RF. Does this change your shifting method? Instead of 1 down 5 up, is it more MotoGP oriented?
Having an autoblipper installed? Not necessarily. You will need to change either which side the shifter linkage arm mounted to the transmission shift spindle is on, or which side of the shift lever the linkage is on. Flipping either of those 180 degrees will result in reverse shifting (1 up, 5 down), but you will need to either reprogram the Q/S sensor, or find one that works the opposite way to actuate the QS or auto blip functions (push vs. pull). Hope that helps!
@@hiimchad Thank you sir. Already talked with Aprilia shop to set up reverses shifting.
