much respect to the lau family , ive been a student of hung gar for years , and im still learning new things about how its applications can be used , for me the conditioning is very important . tai chi , wing chun and the hung gar forms are the links in my chain as well , and they work together flawlessly ,

I love the expression why you are only choreographing and not starring in the movie I don't know

I like the way they train for real fighting by putting on the pads. I saw Donald Hamby doing Hung gar his demos did not look realistic it is never real if you do not pad up and hit for real. That is the only way to see if it really works.

I wanted to reply to a comment posted 3 years ago, but for some reason the option wasn't there. lorddragonxf asked what the order to learn Hung Gar forms is, and my personal input for that would be to first learn the proper stances and transitions between stances, as well as get a feel for how strikes should feel (fluid). That's the basis for any kung fu, or perhaps all of martial arts. After that, learn the form preformed at the beginning of this video -- I'll trust this is truly the first form, and if not it's basic enough to dip your foot in the realm of hung gar. Also note that you shouldn't mirror the video, you'll be learning a lefty version of the form, which isn't an issue if you're consistent and can work your left side to a functional point, but it'll be an improper version of the form. After that whatever form you learn is up to you, but I recommend the tiger-crane form and the iron-wire fist form just because research has told me a lot of Hung Gar is based around the movements in those forms -- that or Hung Gar is famous for those forms -- either way they're a good 3rd and 4th step if you can't decide what to learn next.
Note: I haven't been trained in Hung Gar, I've trained in the American Wu Shu team and my uncle taught me the basics of Wing Chun. I've used those to fulfill the basic first steps I recommended for myself, but that doesn't make me an expert in the style (I only roughly know the form in this video). If you find someone else more qualified to give advice about learning the style, take their word over mine.

tradditionally yes this was the first for you learned after 6 months of basics. today more likely not. as i had to learn a bunch of other much smaller forms before i got to this. and so. it took me bout 7 years in my school to get it. some people get it sooner. depends on instructor like chris is doing it and he has only been going for 2 to 3 years.

This was so cool...( I have studied Wing Chun and now just focus on Tai Chi). Totally loved the fun free feeling of the animation and not taking themselves too seriously (or like that Jake Mace clown who is into 15 different styles....sigh!). Keep it up with real quality posts like this one!!

Sifu, nice video but my question is how many forms are in this system? Do you have a ranking system for levels of mastery or is it a free flowing system? I'm asking out of respect as I'd like maybe learn after I finish my 3rd Dan in TKD
