Not forgetting the Schockemöhle brothers, Alwin and Paul, from Germany too. The Horse of the Year Show always seemed to coincide with the fun fair in the town where I lived on Monday and Tuesday, so it was always a race back to see the programme on TV on those days. Amazing really when I've never had any involvement with horses, yet I absolutely loved the event.
I remember the days when Raymond Brooks-Ward (father of Nick) and Steve Hadley commentated on the Horse of The Year Show. Raymond died in 1992 at the age of 62 and there are certain things Nick inherited from his father.
Looking back I can't believe prime time Saturday night bbc1 was spent watching how high the wall could be jumped by the likes of Eddie macken, David Broome, malcolm pyrah.
This song brings back memories of misery. My sister and dad always watched this and I had to watch it and shut up! Back in the days when you only had one TV…not seven like today😂
This is depressing 70s music that my dad made me endure cus he always wanted this show on tv and like everyone, we only had one tv and lucky to have that so it was flipping horse of the year or nothing.
Not heard this in 40 years. I used to watch it when I lived in the u k Been nostalgic lately and found THE VILLAGE PEOPLE rather the people from the village I lived in. YMCA ! Saw my old house and boy did someone make a mess of it. But ah... this music!

Graham Pearson Raymond used to commentate alongside Dorian Williams until the latter’s death in 1985, and it was all introduced by David Vine.
