I'm not even a Bond guy, but man... the gun barrel intros are among my favorite movie intros of all time. The music, all the variations, just perfect.
same, I barely remember some of the movies on TV when I was a kid, but this intro is iconic
Agreed... with the exception of the _"Die Another Day"_ (2002) movie intro @ 8:34 ..
For starters, it literally sounds like someone laid one of those stereotypical, generic preset drum tracks that come built into those cheap Walmart keyboards over the original James Bond theme music, meant to delete it, but accidentally forgot to remove it from the final recording and was just like _"Oops 🤷♂️ oh well. F it, too late now."_ .... I mean it's not even set at the same damn tempo or close to being in sync! C'mon man! 🤦♂️
Secondly, wtf was he shooting at us with? A freakin futuristic, alien laser blaster 🤨??? Cause that's exactly what it sounded like.
And lastly... no, you know what? I'm gonna let the egregiously awful looking CGI "bullet" speak for itself..
@@GeoffGorman08 you pretty much summed up the whole movie, someone forgot to press delete. I’m a bond fan so I like it regardless but die another day isn’t exactly the greatest bond movie ever.
Just something about the way Pierce Brosnan’s Bond is a simple turn and shoot.
Unlike all the rest who are taking a knee or adding a slight jump, his is exudes pure confidence and professionalism.
And finally what sets it off into the stratosphere for me it’s his iconic dead pan serious stare that so few can pull off.

The first time I saw it in GoldenEye, I thought it was really stiff looking but I’ve come to love it. I also love the CGI shadowing for the gun barrel itself. They should’ve never gone away from that imo.

Whenever I hear "007" or "James Bond" I always immediately think of him. Every single time.
Then I remember we've now finally seen the last of Craig, thank God. I liked him, don't get me wrong, but I was getting really sick of him as Bond by Spectre, and No Time To Die was absolutely awful.
I'd watch any other Bond movie over that one easily.
Hits the mark for me because he's one of the few looking down his sights-
The other Bonds' walked and did a Swish and flick like they got lucky, but Pierce walked into that line of sight like he already knew where the target was.
My favorite gun barrel is still Timothy Dalton's for "License to Kill." Such a dark and dramatic musical choice for it and set the tone for the movie right at the start.

When I was watching all the Bond films, in 2020, hearing that score for the first time, made me realise I was in for something much darker and more serious than anything up to that point. God, it's just perfect.

The first time I saw Casino Royale, when the mook went for his gun, I knew Bond was going to blow him away, but I was NOT expecting the gun barrel POV - when the music came roaring in, I was like, "Oh, HELL yeah!"

I think the way they handled it in that film was spectacular, and I was perfectly fine with them breaking tradition because it was so well executed.
Can’t say the same for the other Craig gun-barrels unfortunately. Pretty poor.
Casino Royale is one of the best Bond films, and has one of the best intros as you pointed out, but a lot of it is down to how good the score is.
But that's the worst one cause they ruined the streak.

I love that how each Bond's film's gun barrel scene is unique, different from each other. The gun sound, the music's theme pitch, how the circle moves, Bond's shooting pose,... are all different.
Daniel Craig has the most interesting gun barrel sequences. Casino Royale is the most creative. Spectre has the best depiction of a classic Bond gun barrel. No Time to Die has the best transition to the start of the movie.

No Time To Die is actually the most special one, as you can see the zoom-in transition means the barrel fired before 007 fires and no blood dripping effect, meaning the end of 007

You can't truly appreciate the Casino Royale one without watching all the Bond films that came before it first.
Pierce Brosnan’s (minus Die Another Day’s gun barrel sequence) were the best ones by a long shot. His walk is just perfect and the way he stops and shoots too. He is so suave, purely confident, and does it without hesitation.

Love how different the soundtrack sound each movie. It's the same theme, but performed, recorded and mixed different giving each one a different character while still having the same feel. They just change enough each time. Truly one of the best soundtracks of all time
I think Bond must have one of the most brilliant music themes in film history. It's amazing how they have managed to change for every movie and follow the time but still it's that very recongniseable Bond theme, sure in some movies they have done it better than the others.

I’m 13 years old and I am glad I saw the last James Bond movie at the cinema it is the only bond movie I saw at the movies and I can remember when the gun barrel came on
George Lazenby's walk and pose for "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" gun barrel sequence is the best but I think the best variation of the 007 theme itself belongs to "For Your Eyes Only", "Goldeneye", "Quantum of Solace", and "Spectre".

Best one for me is Dalton’s first ever gun barrel for The Living Daylights because he walks in a very dark manner.
Same, except for the movie. I prefer the music in License To Kill over the Living Daylights. As for the gun-barrel turn-n-shoot sequence, I believe it's the same for both movies. Dalton only needed to do it once and he NAILED IT.

Those who are curious about Bob Simmons being mentioned as 007 in the gunbarrel sequence from 1962 - 1964, rather than Sean Connery, are the former (on some occasions) referred to as another 007.
Simmons served in the military as a Physical Training Instructor at Sandhurst and was interested in being an actor at first, however, the idea of stunt performer/coordinator was far more attractive to him, he appeared in other features besides the 007 series (1978's The Wild Geese being one of them) before passing away in 1987.
And "The Wild Geese" also starred....Roger Moore!

Dr. No gun barrel is my favorite. It looks very cinematic, very spy-like, and I love how it has that ambient beeping noise and then breaks into the theme song. So cool!

Quantum of Solace: Bond walks fast because he was chasing his enemy.
Skyfall: Bond walks slow because he lost his condition after his train accident
Spectre: Bond didn’t hide his gun because he’s expected by his enemy

Oh the first few are so iconic yet so very very goofy. The first man is firing before he stops waving his arm into the position. Pierce is the first to really square himself at the target and fully reach his firing position before pulling the trigger.
Muy favorite gunbarrel is Goldeneye. The music is so good.

The most unique gun barrel of them ALL is Lazenby's, the way he strolls with so much confidence and then dropping to one knee with jacket tail flapping shoulders back and chest out.... As a 55 year old life long Bond fan, it's definitely the best for me

I should dislike this just for picking Die Another Day as Brosnan's best lol The theme didn't work with the techno stuff and the flying bullet was...ambitious. Tomorrow Never Dies is Brosnan's best imo. I would argue that No Time To Die is Daniel's best, but I personally like how aggressive he is in Quantum Of Solace.

Honestly, the cold start of Casino Royale is my favorite because it uses the classic shot in a creative way. I want to see more of that: There's a cold start. We don't know what's going on. Somebody's about to shoot 007, we see the gun, then the gun barrel, the iconic shot (heh) and BOOM!! The opening credits...
Bob Simmons was one of the best stuntmen of his time. He used to work for Ranks as a tool maker, my father knew him well, met him myself a very nice man.

Love Simmons' jump, but it looks a little goofy next to future shots.
-Poor old Connery always looked like he was about to topple over.
-Lazenby drops, draws, and shoots so quickly you'd be dead before you even knew anything was happening.
-Moore full on misses in his first attempt, then pulls the gun so slowly in his second try there's no way he'd survive.
-Dalton is so smooth, almost cat-like, ready to pounce.
-Brosnan is calm, confident, and deadly.
-And unfortunately Craig never quite hit his stride, literally. His most natural shot is Casino Royale, which is brilliant, but the walks in all the others show he's not comfortable. So stiff and awkward, going either too fast or too slow, and swinging the gun around in his last two.
It's tough, Lazenby's shot is perfect and Dalton's walk is like a prowl, but I'm giving it to Brosnan for balancing both brilliantly well.

Pierce is No. 1 and it's not even close for anyone else.
As someone who otherwise never was into James Bond, I think Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies are my favorites. The sleek and shiny gun barrel leading into Brosnan's perfect turn and shoot, and Goldeneye's iris opening into a dramatic shot over a dam was really good, while I really like the sly music of Tomorrow Never Dies's.
Also, Casino Royale's unique twist on the gun barrel sequence works really well. The cold open ending with the unexpected gun barrel shot, Craig's turn and shoot looked really good, and the music starting up after the shot all worked really well.
Brosnan is so elegant
Peirce Brosnan has the only gunbarrel that wasn't changed. Other that CGI bullet in Die Another Day. He really does have that swagger.

@@victorfadel06 I believe Dalton didn't change his either. It's the same for LD & LTK. And personally, Dalton takes the number #1 spot for me. I put Brosnan in 3rd place. 2nd place goes to Lazenby, the ONLY Bond who kneels, blood drip erases him and a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over Connery's silly intro.
It's amazing how they filmed Daniel Craig's one five times, and they never got it right. Okay, Casino Royale can't really be thrown in there, and it was nice and creative (my favourite of his), but the rest are all just wrong for various reasons (QOS: too quick, Skyfall: horrible lighting, but probably the closest, Spectre: you can see the gun hand waving about, NTDD: too quick, again that gun hand).
Agreed. How hard can it be? His pose isn’t too bad, but everything else is just rubbish, except No Time To Die, which I thought was… OK, but it still has all the problems you mentioned.

Craig paradoxically has the best one (casino royale) and the worst ones (the rest you can clearly see the gun swinging in his hand before he turns to fire) I think just in terms of impact, Brosnan's - although clearly reused for every film - felt the most sudden and visceral

Goldeneye The Movie is the first one they start changing the blood animation
The blood flow is different with every new actor, and every time they did a new gun-barrel throughout their run. What you probably mean though is that Goldeneye was the first to have CGI blood.
2:43 I didn’t realize this till recently that Lazenby’s pose foreshadowed Bond’s marriage.
And the fact that the blood erases his image foreshadows that the violence that occurs in the film (the bloodshed of his wife) will destroy Bond on the inside.
Goldfinger and Thunderball are my favourites of the older Bond movies and both have a great score!!

No time to die's Gunbarrel fadding to light is foreshadowing for James going to the light meaning he's going to die
I only just realised how terrible the lightning is on the Skyfall one. Very harsh lighting with half of Craig's head obscured as he walks in.
Not to mention the gunbarrel itself looks awful

Look and listen closely at Bob Simmons (James Bond stunt double) in the first three films, you’ll hear the gunshot of a revolver which is in his hand

Tomorrow never dies is the best IMO, the perfect blend of the classic theme, modern graphics, and syncing the shot with the music.
I think the best is the living daylights from Dalton. Good music and good pose.
I prefer the music in License To Kill.
As for the pose, I believe it's the same for LD & LTK. I believe Dalton only shot this once and he did it perfectly. To date (2024/01/04), Dalton has THE BEST turn-n-shoot gun-barrel sequence.
2nd, for me personally, is Lazenby. The only Bond who kneels. And the blood drip erases him. Creative thinking for 1969 and a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over Connery's turn-n-shoot.
3rd goes to Brosnan. His turn-n-shoot is both efficient & cool looking.

I LOVE how Daniel is the one how dies from the gun barrel scene in No Time To Die, implying he dies in that episode.
I’m gonna be biased here as Roger Moore as my favourite James Bond actor (although Pierce Bronson is a close second) but I honestly think that For Your Eyes Only has the best gun barrel sequence. For the most part, every other movie has a very simple instrumental that roughly follows the James Bond theme. However, in FYEO, the score is so intense and charismatic and energetic and I’m instantly invested in the movie. Not to mention it’s one of the more grounded and realistic James Bond films with a focus on technology falling in the wrong hands instead of the more fun (but silly) villains with supernatural or mysterious personas.
This is iconic. There is no franchise that gets better. 007 is the best intro of all time.

Aside from Casino Royale (which was very creative btw), everyone in charge of Daniel Craig's gunbarrel sequences should be never allowed to work in cinema again. They are a parody. The best, by far, is Pierce Brosnan's Goldeneye gunbarrel. It's easily the most fluid and my God he looks suave. It's incredible.

The one intro that is completely different than the others are the one for Casino Royale where the classic white circles are not present although the returned in later movies, perhaps by public demand? Anyway, the Casino Royale intro sequence going from the gun barrel clip to the Chris Cornell intro is just magnificent and never fails to give me goosebumps. RIP Chris.

I hate both DaD and goldeneye's gunbarell, dad for the CGI bullet but loved the music and hated goldeneye for that awful music but loved the overall design of gunbarell. So TND has great music and design

Well QoS has the most rushed aand spectre looked so dull. Skyfall was good but it doesnt deserved to be placed at the end of the movie. NTTD had the best transition and foreshadowing yet CR one is still amazing
Never realized how many movies there were.
When i was little, I thought it was a show that turned into movies.
Good lord all these comments about people not knowing who Bob Simmons was....it's not even that hard to do a basic Google search rather than comment and insist the uploader doesn't know what he's talking about and making yourselves look like fools in the process.
I like how No time to die forshadows the movies end by not showing any blood and the vanishing bond.

I know there were many more technical limitations in the 60s/70s, but how did they mess up Sean Connery, George Lazenby and Roger Moores's (first one) with the shot of the actors having a black line between them and the Gunbarrel graphic?
