I erroneously included Blizzard in the Rotations after getting Blizzard IV. This is because of the Paradox in the 90+ Rotations. Skip this Blizzard unless you need an Umbral Ice refresh. I will fix this for the images in the description. My apologies for this mistake.
Brb making a quick hate thread, this is almost as criminal as posting an early strats guide that ends up being suboptimal after a month. I'm physically shaking. No but thanks, really happy to see the black mage guide this early on.
Hey @WeskAlber just wanted to let you know that there is a spelling error in the timestamps for Fire IV. You spelled it Fiare IV. Thanks for the video man!
My biggest black mage hurdle was the fact i played White Mage first. "Oh, firestarter? Nice try, Squeenix, you can't trick me!" (Proceeds to spam hardcast fire 3)
Thank you so much for continuing to make these. It occurred to me recently that these have gotten almost 50% more complex for you to make since I started watching them in Shadowbringers, and I'm grateful you keep at it.
Upkeep and the Rotation were meant to be separate hence the bar. The main issue is most jobs don't have this. You might have a 60s burst, or a 60s loop like SAM or SMN. For something like say DRG, I'd have the rotation be the two combos with upkeep being Jump, Wyrmwind, Mirage, Geir, Nast, Stardiver... "Use everything on cooldown" tends to be the main way to get the required info across.
OK the fact i was NOT subscribed pissed me off at this point. black mage is my favourite class in the game, and I learnt it through your endwalker guide (same with Monk). These guides are easily the best on youtube
Agree with the intro. Black Mage *is* f*cking awesome! (Even if I have had fun dipping my toes into Picto) Been so, sooo looking forward to this guide- thanks as always Wesk!
I've levelled BLM as my first caster, I think it's so much fun now that 8 don't have to managing sharp and lighting procs. I can just focus on squeezing FIV which is the most fun thing about the job.
Back when I was a sprout, I did the stupid thing and job-skipped Black Mage because I thought “500,000 gil??? An almost-max-level job?? Let’s goo”. It’s been my little corner of shame nowadays so this video came in clutch so I can actually learn BLM
glad to see you still pumping out vids for the FF community and stuff little bro, miss hearing you down the hall behind Richie lol, hope your doing well man.
I like the changes black mage got. Having Fire Paradox be instant, always grant Firestarter, and the big bump in “power” given by Manafont are so nice. I will admit that losing Astral Soul upon switching to ice is quite punishing, on the same level as messing up a Ninjutsu and having that 860 potency Raiton turn into nothing.
I still have mixed feelings about the changes to Thunder and our AoE rotation, but Dawntrail Black Mage seems fun so far, and I'm glad to have a Wesk guide to help me work through the new stuff
To offer some additional clarity about Black Mage AoE at level 100: High Blizzard 2 is awful and always worth skipping, even if it means clipping Transpose like you did at level 4. High Fire 2 is also bad, but at least it buffs the first Flare. If your Umbral Ice phase ends with an instant cast, skip HF2 with Transpose, but cast HF2 otherwise.
Here are a few additional tips: -Ethers for additional Flares are still worth it, even if you can't get an additional Flare Star. The ideal version goes (Triple) Flare (Swift), Flare, Flare Star (Ether), Flare. -While I suggest skipping HF2 via Transpose only after an instant cast as a rule for general usage, clipping Transpose to skip HF2 is good. The trick is that Transpose has a five-second cooldown, so if you used Transpose to enter Umbral Ice, you'll need to use another GCD in UI before Transposing again. High Thunder 2 and Foul are the obvious go-tos, and while a second Freeze was considered an option with Dawntrail's release, I believe it's currently better to just cast HF2 than a second Freeze and clipping Transpose. There *is* another filler option, though... -Ice Paradox is a legit option for UI filler. It's single-target, sure, but with current level 100 dungeons, trash pulls often include a particularly beefy enemy that'll outlast the rest of the pack, so if you need UI filler, tagging that mob with Paradox can a fair choice, especially when the pack's been whittled down to three or four enemies.
@@tsbulmer correction, Enhanced Flare got removed on DT launch and hasn't come back yet. Double transpose AF1 Flare was the goto on launch, but otherwise is considered over Paradox UI on 4+ enemies (at least according to somewhere I read and can't remember, someone check me on that)
@@InFluxCapacitor Correction - While you're correct that Enhanced Flare was removed with DT, I said that HF2 buffs the *first* Flare, which it does, but it doesn't have anything to do with Enhanced Flare. Using HF2 instead of Transpose means that the first Flare is cast in AF3 rather than AF1. That isn't to say that cold HF2 is better than double Transpose, but rather that, if you don't have any filler available for double Transpose, cold HF2 is stronger than hot HB2. Also, to be fair, when I wrote "so if you need UI filler, tagging that mob [the one with way more HP than the others] with Paradox can a fair choice, especially when the pack's been whittled down to three or four enemies", I accidentally left out the word "be" from "can be a fair choice", but I assumed the meaning would still be clear to everyone.
I've watched this video before, but was more or less taking a break so I'd since forgotten the 100 opener. I'm looking through it now, and it's good to see I either retained some of it or figured a good amount of it by myself since, though I tend to do the double weaves in the opposite order. Am I right in assuming you Ley Lines and Triplecast later on is for buff alignment? I've been doing those straight away on the High Thunder, but I can see how that might be rushing it a little.
Looking at the upkeep sections, I'm confused by the need for Blizzard 1 after Blizzard 4. I don't feel like we need to worry about refreshing ice, so what's its purpose?
@@WeskAlber It shows up around both 30:44 and 40:54. I'm still leveling the class so maybe it's something I just don't know, but it doesn't feel like you addressed it, since you mentioned Blizzard 4 essentially replaces Blizzard.
If you mess up your ST and wont be able to fire 4 all six times without running out of mana, is it better to flare a single target in order to get flarestar?
Hmm. Do the Thunder DoTs still add to the running damage if we hit an enemy back to back with it? Same Thunder spell back to back, I mean. I did listen that Single Target and AoE Thunder do _not_ stack.
Dunno how to feel about DT nlack mage, the loss of sharpcast is not missed for me since I did not like using it, but at the same time Black mage dod not get anything new that feels really good to use.
Kind of a nitpick, but just wanted to see the enemies' status effect when you do the openers, just so I could see at what point you reapply it. Obviously not needed, but just that lol. Been seeing some videos where people reapply thunder as early as 6 seconds left.
How should I gem BLM? Go with a rapid fire turret (heavy on SpS) or a slow, big boom turret (heavy on Crit/Det)? Edit: I do lean on the big boom side. Much of my melds are SA XII, SM XII with like the occasional QT XII. But, I want to know the BLM cognoscenti on melding.
Something you've glossed over (no pun intended) is that the Firestarter proc you get in the Standard opener isn't used after Despair. Normally that proc is used for Transpose optimization; I know you didnt touch on that because its a beginner guide, but I think you should've included the extra Fire 3 in the opener for completion
With Leylines working like the Terra Magica spell in Elden Ring, I feel SO called out by you saying we put the spell down at the wrong time and faceplant XD That has happened to me SO MUCH in Elden Ring that I know it's gonna inevitably happen when I try out BLM in FFXIV. I swear... I'm cursed...
