    Hametsu no Koibito (Destruction Lover) is a short one so far but its so fun to read, playful panelling with a mysterious story, its a side project of a mangaka and i hope he continues it when he has time.

    Witch Hat Atelier really is that good, it's depressing to me that it may not have found the audience it so richly deserves because the character art style looks cutesy. I'd take this over Harry Potter any day of the week.
    If you'd like to look up something as lavish visually in terms of layouts and ornamentation, I would suggest the work of JH Williams III - what comes to mind immediately is his classic run on Promethea, with Alan Moore, but his Batwoman series is also a banger, he has a Sandman series (which I sadly haven't read) and he has a recent more experimental dark fantasy comic called Echolands which is pretty much like getting punched in the face by art

    • @Telimency
      @Telimency 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      witch hat has its problems. I love it in theory, it has undoubtedly one of the most beautiful art styles of all the manga I've read, but it has a bit of a problem with pacing and keeping the reader engaged. Everybody i showed this manga to, loved it but dropped later for reasons they were not sure of. I myself have problem with being exited about its chapters, whereas when Golden Kamui, apothecary diaries or Dungeon meshi were instant hype for me when the new chapter hit. I don't know if Harry potter is good comparison, they both have some kind of magic learning theme, but apart from that it's just totaly different, Harry potter is more of a shounen in terms of audience, and Witch hat is seinen, even though it tries to be shounen.
      I enjoyed Eniale & Deviela from the same author a bit more, because it could be so unapologetically crazy and bubbly and cartoonish

      Sandman is really good but I’ll definitely check out his other work, thanks!

    • @stefanbraidwood2007
      @stefanbraidwood2007 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Telimency all series have their problems, the main one I had not following Atelier is that it was releasing slowly and is told in larger arcs; I don't think it has pacing problems but rather that its intended rhythm and atmosphere are very different to general expectations of the medium. That's never going to compare to self contained episodes like Meshi, as meanderingly charming as that can also be.
      You're right about that romantic introspection also being very different to Harry Potter, which I just mentioned because it is also a story about kids going to magic school, and because it is enormously popular.

    I recommend Tougen Anki ! It's a shonen and once again it doesn't reinvent anything, it actually starts out like most shonen in recent years: main male character is a normal teenager until their father figures gets killed or dies in front of them and they discover a whole world they didn't know they weren't a part of. But it's one of those mangas where I started out thinking I would try out a few a chapters and ended up catching up with the 162 chapters available 😂 The characters designs are very nice, the action as well as the drawings are solid and the characters really grow into themselves. I think you could have a ton of fun with it and it's pretty popular in Japan so hopefully it will get an anime soon.

    "Act-Age" is going to go down as my biggest "What if?" of any fictional series since it got axed when the writer (not the artist) was arrested for sexually harrassing kids. It's about acting, and has some of my favorite characters and moments in the whole medium.
    If you liked "three days of happiness," I think you'd like "I had that same dream again." It's short enough that I think that's enough to sell you.
    For another unconventional romance, "one room of happiness" is a short and finished story. The premise is that a shut-in/stalker guy kidnaps a schoolgirl; she's totally psyched about it. They're both broken people shunned by standard society.
    Definitely going to give witch hat atelier a shot. I like that you've gone through a somewhat disparate collection of manga in this video. Your open-mindedness towards different genres of stories is something I have a hard time finding in a lot of content creators (though I understand that it might be disincentivized for channel growth).

    13:02 I really feel that. For some reason mangas more often than not fail to cover more heavy topics in a satisfying way. I don’t know if it’s because most wouldn’t read it if it was complex, because manga is just not the right medium or because of some other issue, but whenever a manga seems to have an interesting idea that isn’t often explored in that medium, it either fumbles the bag completely or doesn’t even attempt to explore it. I picked up the Frieren manga when the anime came out. Imagine my surprise when the manga with a premise of “one of the heroines of a classic fantasy party practically lived forever and watched all her friends die. What’s next” turned out to be… just another fantasy. Like, for the first 50 chapters or so, Frieren barely went through any growth. Nothing happened. Nothing’s happening in that manga, bro, what’s going on, what happened
