    There is something to be said about these guys, for as long as that field is, that their plow line is relatively straight for not having all the fancy stuff. Good job! Nice to see all the old iron working!

    I haven't seen plowed dirt in a long time, and that is beautiful black dirt. Where are you? I'm an old wanna be farmer. I grew up with a fellow whose family farmed in Indiana back in 50's and 60's. I did work for a local farmer for four years in 2004. I worked for CAT in Decatur, IL for 33 yrs.
    You guys have more backbone than all the Marines in the world.
    Don't you have a tractor for the family dog? WHAT A PARTY1!!!!!!! The "ole Green 2-poppers were great".

    Everyone take notice to something. They didn't need a computer to work on it and it still functions after basic repairs.

  • @carl2755
    @carl2755 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Exactly why was the 5020 parked in the weeds by the former owners? I didn't see any major repairs like an engine overhaul, or transmission fix. You changed fluids & filters, replaced a hose or two, steering wheel, 3ph cable, some batteries, freed up the turbo, .... and presto it is in the field pulling a a 6 furrow plow (smoke free).

    • @BIBSTERSrepairshop

      Wonder if it has something to do with that check valve he fixed in episode 3 maybe the old owner had someone tell them the pump was bad and it was gonna cost thousands of dollars to fix so they parked it. Not saying that for sure but just a guess it could have also been someone got out of farming maybe old owner passed away and family didn’t know what to do.

    That view from your camera was my view growing up. I was able to reach the pedals of our open cab John Deere 4440 when I was 8, and that's when papaw stuck my ass in the seat and turned me loose. I must have put a million miles on that thing. I can remember coming in after dark and the exhaust manifold was glowing cherry red. It matched the color of my sunburnt skin. The next morning I was right back in the field. If I wasn't doing field work I was pulling a honey wagon or grain carts in the fall. Nice video. Brings back some very fond memories. Liked and subbed.

    That must be an old G JOHN DEERE PULLING 3 BOTTOM. We pulled 3 - 16s with our G And 2 - 16s with an A. Disked and mowed and planted with a B. At nite the old John's would pick up a gear after sundown. Flame out the exhaust. I would rather plow after dark.. Sometimes they ran around the clock. 12 hours on one was a rough day. Women bring lunch and plow while we ate and someimes a nap. Haha

    All those tractors and crews working in the same field reminds me of the days when our whole community would pitch in to help a guys that was paid up and couldn't get his work done. Many times we drove rigs across the county to be in a field by first light. At that time a 4020 was a big tractor and it took a lot to plow a section or many sections. But we got it done for our friends in need.

    My first plow was an old one bottom converted from a horse drawn plow. I could drop and raise the plow by pulling a rope from the tractor seat. My tractor was an old JD 2 cylindar with a single point hitch. I soon got a larger and more powerful JD tractor that had petccocks on the cylindars to open before starting the engine. This was necessary because the started didn't have enough power to crank the engine (cold) with the petcocks closed. I have long forgotton what models they were. Perhaps an H and an M?

  • @robertmeyerholtz8504
    @robertmeyerholtz8504 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sounds really good. I see you have atypical JD plow that leaves a poor back furrow to follow for the tractor behind you. I always wondered why JD couldn't get that corrected.

    I live in Alberta and the days of the plow are gone.
    I would love to go see a plow day. I know they do some at Reynolds museum in wetaskiwin Ab.
    Must go there some time soon.

      @@steveaw5895 This is a great series of videos. I only wish I had lived closer to have been able to help you guys build that thing. I always love restoring and rebuilding equipment that still has a ton of life left in it. I have one that I am restoring and rebuilding but I don't have you or the rest of your "crew". Even if you had to dig an extra 300 or 400 feet of ditch and lay a thousand feet of pipe or double you guys still made time to build that beautiful tractor. Great job!!

      I'm north west of these folks, on the shores of Lake Michigan.
      But my folks are from this area.
