I’ve got a 2010 Brera TBI with 132,000 miles and it runs beautifully. I’ll be keeping it long term.
Remember to change often engine oil. Oil and filter are cheap from ebay. You can do it yourself - it is easy.

I bought this car today, from a guy in Manchester. Drives well, hardly done any miles since this video, was parked up for past 2 years. Gave it a good machine polish and is looking good.

@@ItaliaAutos it drives really good with plenty of power. Pleased with the purchase, I also have a remapped Mito cloverleaf, love Alfa’s.
I was expecting massive rust. But the oil leak might have helped with the rust-proofing :) . Probably lots of pressure washing, a bit of media blasting, new bushes, few suspension bits and chassis is sorted
I love the Brera, fantastic looking car in my eyes, and pretty solid in reliability terms, in the diesels at least. A friend of mine had one, he bought it as an ex-demo and ran it past 250,000 miles, largely on the continent, without any breakdowns and not much in the way of work beyond routine servicing. It did have a taste for rear springs, needing, on average, one a year but he found the front wishbones typically lasted about 5 years, so around 100,000 miles, before needing attention. Surprisingly, with his car being the 2.4 diesel, it never needed the crank pulley replaced and was still running on the item it had when he bought it (who knows if it had gone while it was a demo, it was an Alfa so it's possible) when it got written off by being rear ended by a Sprinter ambulance. He's now got a new Giulietta, which is rapidly approaching 100,000 miles with little issue, though it didn't start too well, spending more time at the dealer than it did on the road in the first 6 months...
Definitely worth saving that! There’s far worse cars out there. I imagine it would look good after a decent clean too

I have a mate who recently bought a Brera nearly identical to this one but with only 130k miles.
Look after a car and it'll last you a very long time. It's a shame almost nobody in the UK knows how/can be arsed to do that.

@@worldhello1234 'Look after' means pre-empting known issues. All cars have their foibles and weak spots, it's knowing about them and guarding against them that differentiates a bad owner from a good one, even if that means using the car differently.
Very nice car. To little profit but good job. I changed in my car rear springs-shock absorbers, dpf and water pump with timing belt. Now i know that vas easy jobs.

Definitely go for it. At that price, cleaned up and polished it'll find a buyer for sure! Breras and 159s are massively underrated and undervalued cars, I reckon. In terms of style for your buck, nothing comes close. I own a 159Ti 2.4 QTronic, and I love it. Well, apart from the shocking fuel consumption around town (probably 20mpg top whack). I'm so jealous of UK second hand car prices. So low! Here in France you could expect to pay 3-4 times the UK price. Second hand cars seems to be way overpriced on the Continent.

People in UK are very snobby when it comes to cars, if its over 5 years old its pretty much lost all its value...also in UK people dont look after their cars, I’ve bought lots of used cars over the years and every time is a case of make a long list of parts that are either broken or missing!
The main reason for higher prices in western EU is because of the eastern EU countries. I am from Romania but it is the same all across the region. There is a whole industry built around fixing/selling/braking for parts imported second-hand cars.The majority of new car sales are from company purchases. Very few people here buy new cars because it's way more cheaper to fix them here than in IT\FR\GER. With the UK being right hand drive the only cars that make it here are for parts only so the demand for those is much lower and this (i think) explains the ridiculous second-hand car prices in the UK .
@@sarahwebster8927 I think it's also due to people being more willing to use finance deals and less willing to pay over £10k cash. If you buy a 2nd hand car from a dealer and need finance they charge 18-20%APR in which case a new car will end up cheaper or almost the same.
Agreed on all replied, still stands that people in UK treat their cars like shit. Sad.
As only 24 thousand brera's were built I would save it! There will come a point in the market these become rare! What happens when a car is rare, the price goes up! I have the 3.2 Qtronic version

what a car... in spain there arent 3.2 busso, so qtronic would be imposible to find out, take care of that jewel!
No reason to be scared of the high mileage. My '11 Giulietta 1.6JTDm has done 327.000 km now and still going strong, single issue was a cracked EGR cooler.

Considering its mileage and comparatively minor faults it seems too nice to simply part it out. Fix it and resell it. Use it as a courtesy car. But don't dismantle it.

I just bought a 2019 Gulia Quadrifoglio for my wife and she loves it I love it too drive an Audi RS6 AVANT and the Alfa is just as fast and it comes fully loaded being the Cloverleaf ☘☘ awesome car ....

it just magically pulled me that I need to get alfa the Brera for in condition that is in my favour or the alfa 159 I feel like one of those is the car I have to own :D
I felt the same at the launch of the brera at a hotel with the cloverleaf club, I drove the 3.2 the sound was superb but felt like it weighed the same as the moon lol .
As said before the engines have let the car down, i should have bought the spider for what use the back seats are .
Customers get too obsessed with mileage, people seem to think when a car reaches 100k+ miles it's going to explode but the reality is cars with high mileage are generally running at optimum temperatures etc.

I have a question regarding the same crank pulley.
Mine has gone and had it replaced.
The fun fact is that my mechanic, even though I told him to change the timing belt/related he did not do it, however he charged me quite the same amount of money for the belt replacement.
This is annoying cause now I'd have to spend the same to do the work he was already there for.
I was curious now how much you are charging for replacing the same part, only the pulley.
I'm curious to see if I've been scammed or not.

Definitely worth saving. The Brera is a future classic and for under £2k, it's a bargain. The engine should be good for another 150,000 miles if it's taken care of.

Got one of these ... Beautiful car and very misunderstood.. particularly the 2.4 diesel which I have.
Not a sports car but a fantastic GT car .. did 500 miles last weekend in mine and with those seats so comfortable .. economical too
My 159 1.9 jtd 370000 km and yet decent! I have seen one with 650000 km and the engine was original, the problem is the rest ofthe components but you can easily find second hand parts

I have 159 2.4 JTDm with 450 000kms on it... still runs well without any major issues. UK roads has to be very salty because in here (Czech republic) we usually don´t have that much rust on Brera/159. Just 147, 156, GT and 145/146 are getting really bad. That front subframe is shot, also those rear arms should be at least refurbished. Other than that it does look quite good.
I'm roads are not the best.

I had a 159 Ti which was also a great design. Had to get rid in 2018 as the power steering pump melted for some weird reason and set the car on fire... Was only nine years old and spent thousands on it! Oh how I miss it.

It seems to run pretty good for the mileage, underneath also seems to look good, no dried out rubbers, a little rusty, but not rotten out. I would say save it. I dont understand why people are afraid of high mileage, it seems that it is technically a good maintained car, and it is a diesel, so it should go another 200.000 mile with ease. A friend of mine had a 159 1.9 JTD, it had 620.00 kilometers on it, and still runs and drives good.

I once had an Alfasud in the 1980's. I started driving in 1965,and must have owned and driven dozens of cars since then.,I've has Fords,Vauxhalls,Renaults,a Volvo,Merc.Mazda and Honda,but the experience of the Alfa still remains in my memory as the best I've owned.There was something about the engine sound and the 5 speed gearbox that made it so enjoyable.Unfortunately rust in the wheel arches made me decide to trade it in.If I gave a friend a lift they were always impressed with its comfort and engine sound.I must get another but I wonder if they've lost the character that made them so great.

Alfa flat four petrol,,, versus online 5 cylinder diesel. I can assure you its gonna sound more than a bit different 🤔
My MiTo has 56K miles on it, it's lower than the average for this car, but it runs like a dream.
Love the look of these cars wish they had sold these in the USA. I prefer a rear wheel drive if that could have been done. Im ok with a diesel . This kinda looks like a 2005 Chrysler crossfire which I do own.

Did you find out what the oil was from? I would save it definitely. Film the repairs and sell it alongside the videos as provenance that it's been fully checked, repaired and ready for the future. High mileage cars are fine and dandy as long as there is proof of servicing (even if you did do it yourself).
Not yet only finished filming it yesterday so still got all the repairs to do.
i am thinking of getting it with 2.2 JTS as my second car to my 156
Apart from service replacements..wishbones and roll bar links, battery etc. the crank pulley was the only failure I had on our 156 2.4JTD Sportwagon in 130,000 miles. I'm never going to say "Break it" . I have to be in a really cruel mood to say that of an Alfa that is so easily recoverable. If it were a basket case....different matter, but its not.

It was a turismo model with the smaller wheels/ tyres and I'm convinced that gave the suspension an easier time as tyre wear was very even and the tyres, Firestone Firehawks lasted really well and suspension components didn't do badly either. The car was never used roughly and a couple of guys (now retired) in Lincoln with Alfa blood running through their veins looked after it. It did long commutes and was simply one of the best cars we've ever had. ( 5 Alfas amongst them).
I won't break. For that mileage with all the mechanical bits being good, it's a good option! I would say you could up the price a bit even.
ill see what the market is like in January when its got a full mot.
I think the 159 iis a nicer lookig car, better proportions in general, specially the SW version...yet, what a head turner!
Awesome. Really sorry to tell you but in Europe this cars have little to no rust. In my country there is always sunny weather and i can say that England weather is the problem for Alfas.
Salt on the roads in the winter doesn't help either

Would be great if you could show the tail light sealing. Foggy tail lights are common on these cars.
I made holes on mine but did not work and now I'm thinking of buying new ones.

Is the passenger side window a little wobbly? Please see the top edge during the drive part of the video.
Window was open a bit and the camera and mount was making it wobble.

Just watched the video it was great hope you saved it. I used to have a 156 that I bought for £750 obviously had some problems but I loved it, I'm currently driving a volvo 1.6 diesel drive, but would love to buy a brera in the future to love and cherish and have as my everyday car, would prefer a diesel any tips or advice would be great. 👍🏻
Your videos are so very good,need to change the rear shocks on my 3.2 which are kaput.With your help I think it's perfectly feasible.This 3.2 is 2006 and the seats are fully electric and are a solid black throughout,did they fit these as standard on a 2006 Brera.Thanks again for great content.

Had a 159 1.9 and it only got to 147.000 miles before I had to scrap it. Thats the beauty with Alfas, they run perfectly until everything goes bunkers on them and you have to spend loads to fix them.

I don't know how is the durability of 2.4 as compared to 1.9, but mine 156 Crosswagon is precisely 201k miles right now and still runs absolutely perfectly. So I wouldn't mind the mileage that much ;)
On the other hand, I know that buyers usually do...to the extend that they prefer 100 k miles piece of scrap over 200k well preserved car!

It’s a stunning car that was let down by Alfa by a rubbish range of engines .
@@Boris-xx7dw mines was the 2.0 Jtdm. Felt fine when it was warm. Maybe it was just me but I just felt it was just not polished at all. It felt rough, harsh and just downright difficult to drive

People are too negative, when seeing an Italian car with high mileage. All still lies sticking in the people's heads since the 70's 80's . My little sister drove 250.000 km with the Fiat 600 900 cmm from 2000+ never had an issue. Actually made 160.000 km with modern 500 also no issues, just oil changes every 10.000 km or per year. I had 2 Fastback Spider(a junior and 2 liter, a Fiat 124 BS1 from 73', Alfa 6 2.5 V6, GTV Alfettas, 2 Liter and 2.5 V6. Bertone 1750 Quadrifoglio d'oro etc etc never had big issues, yes the Fiat had water-pump, thermostat.....rest nothing. Alfas are girls to be treaten good, and they pay back with love. If you have really problems, change your dealer or mechanic.

I have a 2008 2.4 jtdm with more than 120 000 km.change intake manifold ,power steering rack ,all shock absorbers, crank pulley ,qtronic TCM, gearbox solenoids all new unit, front suspension arms,key is using C3 engine oil for passive regen and not anyother oil.i do oil change every 12 months.The car drives like new now.more stable and safe than any BMW or Mercedes or Audi of its class.design makes it a head turner compared to germans.brings me class and bitches.repaired the rear lights by drilling holes on them no water anymore, change front and rear badges.use rainX and meguiars product.i buy parts from shop4parts uk fly to me by plane.

You've got two chances, either it's all gone wrong with it already or it's about to happen lol my 159 costs me a fortune but I love it.

I just got rid of my late 159 2011 159 TI. Beautiful car, but i thought it was a poor drive. Am I wrong?

@@therushden that's probably the perfect way to put it. Replaced it with an 08 is250. It gets no second glances but the Alfa felt like the ark in camparison, even tho the 159 is 4 years younger!! Happy I owned one but definitely won't be back

@@ItaliaAutos just wondered if the pulley on my 156 1.9 jtd has a problem there's a whine just in front of me goes up and down with engine revs driving me nuts. Or alternator bearings? Quiet when cold but gets going with engine warmed up.
ds1868 not as common for failing on the 156.

My dad had 420.000km on 2.4 154kW 159sw and I think it still would be going now if he didnt have an accident :(

Wd40 each bush one at a time then drive it. When it goes that’s the bush.
I've got a similar dilemma with a 156 Q4 Crosswagon, its done 290km (180 miles) and can't decide whether to put any money in to it. My worry with that one is if the 4 wheel drive starts going wrong that the costs could fly away, are all Q4 systems compatible with each other if I need spares?
I'd detail the sh*t out of it, get every corner perfectly clean, get all the parts it needs and drive it daily :)

159 2.2 JTS Selespeed...Just a question hoping for some help!!! When it changes gears ,it hesitates for about a second,the rev's drop to idle speed then go straight up to the rev's I was doing before it changed gear...gives you a real jerk into your seat!! Any ideas as to what it could be ??

mileage is irrelevant for the jtd engines as they can outlast the car its self
yep from what ive heard theres a few with double the mileage out there.
very surprised to see perfectly running not o bad looking alfa at 200k and actual alfa dealership (technically). not so long ago i saw couple used alfas for great price once i started digging in common faults sorry but thanks for example timing belt at 35k (petrols) so u need a workshop to run modern car :)
