You need a “love” button, not just a thumbs up. I was hit by a car in November while out for a walk and broke many bones, and lots of injuries. I was bed/chair ridden for two and a half months. I love this thought that pain is a gift. It really has been for me. Now I’m healing well and starting to get my steps in again. (Considerably fewer right now). But what doesn’t kill us definitely makes us stronger!

    Voluntary suffering.
I never heard that exact phrase, but I do believe that the hardest parts of my life have made me extra resilient as an adult.
When I went back to fasting after a long break, I had to remind myself that the feeling of hunger won’t kill me.
    That it’s hard, but rewarding.

I keep reminding myself that good self-care is like raising a child. You have to clean up after them, make sure they get fresh air and plenty of water, let them have fun in safe ways... but also teach them to be brave, and have patience and discipline. Pain is a really tricky one to fit into this metaphor

This is so true, Kayla. Made me reflect especially with my weight loss struggle. Listening to you, I realized, I didn't like the pain or discomfort. But the truth is, to change, there will be discomfort.
    Thanks for sharing!

There are a lot of people who talk about fasting and weight loss but this discussion is amazing. Most people think there should be a way to do fasting and weight loss without any pain or difficulty and if they have discomfort, they must be doing something wrong. This discussion is brilliant because change and weight loss is hard, and being able to tolerate discomfort is essential for success.

Same is true for hunger. There's no (known) way of losing weight, which doesn't involve some degree of hunger.
