I still can't get past the part where they make you, the new deputy, do literally everything, including sending you into a militia base all by yourself. Seemingly countless bullets thwipping at you from every direction. Countless enemies. Lava. You have absolutely no Freestar backup. Just you by yourself taking on a dangerous and organized militia at their home field. I get that it's a "video game stage," but if you look at it objectively it's ludacris. Even with their "it's your case" excuse. Other quests are just as ridiculous, but even the pirates at least give you equipment to travel in an electromagnetic storm, and either they or SysDef will then back you up in a space fight. But with the Rangers it's like, "Welp, you'd better get going to that militia base." (At least Sarah or Andreja tell them how it must be so hard for them to sit here while you do everything.)

I highly recommend finishing the Freestar Rangers questline before level 20 so you can get the Star Eagle ship. The Razorleaf is amazing and using it early game is a must have, but eventually you actually seek ship combat and having the enemies grav jump away because “tHe MANTIS! 🤯” gets annoying after a while. Keep in mind they are both A class ships however you can swap the reactors in the ship building menu and use the Star Eagle as a class B ship as well.

I have found that my favorite communities are the small outposts on worlds in the middle of nowhere. The random missions you get are really great from these places. Sometimes you have to help them defend themselves from creatures and hostiles nearby. I really wish there were options to create your very own settlement complete with naming it, creating your own police, fire, and emergency brigades as well as farming and the like. It would make me feel more like I belonged if on a daily basis I was called in as the town sheriff/marshal/chief/mayor to fix an issue.
I really hope Bethesda is doing something because what I'm asking has the potential to be an endless game. Like Oregon Trail in friggin space. How cool would that freaking be?!

those who reported getting more MAY have chosen the Freestar collective settler trait at character creation. I would also point out that the bookstore is just past the Coe Museum (which is just past Chunks so it's easier to spot!). Unfortunately Akila doesn't boast any staryard access or anything for unique ship parts (if only Trident sold ship parts), BUT it DOES have a pretty decent selection. Somebody once said, if it's not available in New Atlantis (another city with no staryard access, whereas Neon has TWO lol) than you can probably find it in Akila... unless your just too low lvl or missing it entirely like I am on the hallway parts. Anyway Akila (and Neon... and Red Mile) is a pretty great place to get Slayton Industries equipment- some of my favorite engines and grav drives.

Thought I’d put this on here cause I don’t know where else I’d find a bunch of players new and old😆
    SPOILERS
I’ve discovered what I think is a bug? If when you complete new game + 5 times and collect the emissary’s suit (which is beautiful btw) you decide to equip it after having sided with the Hunter he will attack you even after you have all the artifacts and have literally just helped him achieve unity. Not sure why this happened but it pissed me off 😂
I do this thing at the end of the final temple where I drop all of my loot in the final room. I like to think that another adventurer will find the temple and be bummed cause there isn’t an artifact there anymore so at least this way they get a ton of gear. Well I had dropped everything but her suit and then grab the artifact which took me back to my ship where the hunter attacked me for having the suit equipped… without all my gear… yeah I died almost instantly. I had to go all the way back through the temple to get my stuff so I could take him out. Very frustrating 😆

Something to note: Akila City has some very obvious Texas, USA vibes to it. It also has several nods and references to the state. The old walls you showed are very much like the ruins of The Alamo in San Antonio. Aggie's is also a reference- a University called Texas A&M (Yes it is always just the letters, though I think it stands for Agriculture and Mechanics?). When watching an American Football game with A&M, they shorten the name of the team to The Aggies. The symbol of the Freestar Collective is an eagle with a single star. A *lone* star, if you would (Texas being The Lone Star State). I also am nursing a theory that Akila City is a purposeful misspelling of Aquila, Latin for Eagle, to prevent people from mispronouncing it as Uh-QUEE-lah, but I haven't seen any evidence to confirm that yet. Now I'm off to 100% the Cheyenne system, thank you!

    • @jackm052
      @jackm052 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Few things. 1. The reason A&M is referred to as the Aggies is because that’s their mascot, not as a shortened version of the university name (not sure who told you that.) 2. More importantly, the Freestar Rangers badge has a lone star not as a reference to Texas as a whole but as a reference to the Texas Rangers, an irl law enforcement agency in Texas that has similar duties as a US Marshal’s Service, except limited to Texas. The Rangers were/are known to be the premier elite law enforcement agency in the state, only having around 100 active field agents across the state. The Texas Rangers badge is a silver five pointed star in the center of a ring, hence why the Freestar rangers badge has a star

The Star Eagle is the primary reason to do the Rangers Arc early on.... but the real prize if you do not do it until later in the game, like you yourself... is getting Miss... Season... as a companion once you are done, if you return to the ...other.... tourist attraction in Porima.
Barret is pretty cool... but a bit.... intimate..at times... and a little.... paternal... at others.... nothing overt, just some of his comments hither and dither.... and he is a sweet bloke... but feels like her gets very familiar very fast, and gives off that 'likes you more than you are sure you may like him' vibe... and when you learn about.... Erven...... that just makes him seems a little... emotionally high maintenance. Sarah is great, and along with Barret, someone you can find yourself caring about a little more easily than the other two... but she is very.... professional... a girl.. coming across as a little too.... Prep School girl, if not quite to the Mary Sue level, but close... her childhood, her parents, her education, her first job, her service, now Constellation... just... all a little ... too polished, a bit... upper class compared to most of the people of the world. Andreja is mysterious, and intriguing... but also emotional, and awkward and judgemental... to the point where it can feel a bit intimidating... and you want to avoid her wrath more than any of the other three. Sam? Well ultimately, he's pretty mono-dimensional, and his unfolding history as you get to know him, pretty much make him the least likeable... and wholly unqualified to be a father........most of all, it makes him come off a completely selfish.
All of that is worth exploring, of course. Each and every one of them is pretty decent, and if you pace things with them... can be enough companion action to last the whole game..... but honestly.... after the first time... you definitely NEED a break from them, all of them. Barret's a little too eager jovial warmth, Sarah's self pity party that her extraordinary success was not without ANY blemishes or hardship at all. Andreja's brooding moodiness and awkwardness, and Sam's..... well..... just being Sam, be it his claiming to be weighed down by his lineage, in the face of zero evidence he's weighed down by anything other than issues of his own making, his paper thin and selfish reasons for leaving the career offered to him, for doing what he did instead, for not appreciating the opportunity his Ex offered him as an out, over a cell, or taking his commitment to that new career very seriously... whilst all the while trying to convince you he is a great father, despite the combination of neglect and endangerment he oft visits upon his daughter.... all because he really just wants to be the the dusty road riding cowboy, never in one place too long, always seeing the new new thing (God, the more you think about it, it really is a case more of Loathsome Dove, than an Lonesome one).
There really are not that many options though.
I have not spent time with all named Followers..... but I spent quite a bit with Basement Admiral's almost daughter, once she gets to be a companion, and boom boom bounty hunter lady everyone seems to love so much, as well as the guy rescued in the very early Constellation missions, and the Kepler lady.. not the Pirate dude from the same bar, as well a the named female from viewport, and one of the fellas, the guru from the Astral Lounge, and Doc from the Akila outdoor bar, as well as the scoundrel who cameo'd from Aggies in this video.... as well as cute freckle faced apolitical famous historical lady from a game of famous faces gone too far.....
.....that is not exhaustive... but it is enough to know that truly... aside from the Adoring Fan.... there is not much happening there. Mickey can be a bit of a laugh.... and sweet ol American gal out of time, can have a kind of parochial charm,....but none really really stood out.
Save that one...from that place..... you work with on that one part... of that one mission... for the Rangers....where you meet her sister.... that one... our miss 'Season'.... she is really great... her idles comments are rare... but feel natural and spot on.... her way of doing things is hilarious... at least for me... she is a true professional.... the gun goes down by her side often....until someone shoots... or she sees some with a red bar... THEN she shoots.. I literally watched her watch me take a hatchet to my face, because Pirate ran between her and I... and she did not shoot, until he DID my face...and her conversation tree is the most natural and interesting... at least to me.... she's got no story of being a jaded EX something, or some cool stories of being a bounty hunter, or her service in Vanguard or SysDef, no Mary Sue-ness, she's not a doctor or specialist in anything, she's woman who is a public servant, given special dispensation to become your partner.... and is a very nice antidote to the four main Companions when you get sick of them without committing any of those sins herself.
THAT is the ONLY reason to do the Deputized arc, if you do it later in the game, yo :P

Wow you are SO off-the-mark about Sam. He's a terrific dad that actually spends meaningful time with his daughter, and isn't keeping her locked up in a bubble. Cora is lucky to have him, and he's too good for Cora's selfish witch of a mother. "Oh hey Sam, I know we BOTH took part in making this child, but I don't wanna so you take her see ya". Sam isn't "weighed down by lineage" as much as he's weighed down by his selfish, narcissistic father who'd rather see Sam live a hollow shell of a life rather than be his own man. Besides, half of what Sam objects to as far as Solomon Coe goes is because people have made Solomon into some mythical figure instead of an actual man. How can anyone hope to live up to THAT, especially when they are young?
You must be very young to not understand how the issues in Sam's upbringing can adversely affect your life as you grow up, and how you can become lost in your attempts to rebel against everything. That's the whole POINT with Sam...he was lost, took his lumps, matured, and grew into a good father and a good man by finding HIS OWN way instead of letting his shitty father bully him into a life of misery. What you call "child endangerment" I call "life in the Big Universe". NOWHERE is 100% safe, and since Cora's mother is a POS, Sam does his best to give his genius daughter everything he wished he could have had.

DING DING DING we have a Sam Simp in Isle three.....
.....his father got him a good job, not a great job, but a good one, to learn the ropes with actual nut and bolts of what his family business was.... I am older than you, I guarantee it... so I know how wonderful and fortunate that opportunity is... but yes... it might not be what he wanted... but it was a start in life..... and he got bored. What did he do? Quit? Join Constellation then? Move to another world and get a job mining? Farming on Luana or whatever? Working at the Hopetech factory? Saving enough to open his own business?
Nah..... he became a smuggler. He was bored and wanted the rush. A sad story told all to oft in the real world, the rich kid falling in with gangsters for the thrill, the bored upper class professional lady becoming a point man...or woman for sex traffickers.... the kind of selfishness unique to such people is evil. The people they roll with, well you look at them, most do not have any other path to making it big.... poor backgrounds, bad choices from their parents, lack of education etc etc.... but the Sam's of the world, they do it for no other reason than comfortable boredom.
Once he was busted though, what happens? Definitely no honor among thieves there, fires up his ships guns and goes in blasting against the people he was working with. What a charmer.
Still, maybe because of his surname, maybe because of she was lost and lonely and this dashing Coe showed some kind of Swashbuckling spirit and crazy courage that she romanticised it, maybe both.... one of the Rangers arresting him gives him the old 'join or go inside' offer Courts around the world oft made irl to butter up the Military. Perhaps not the best judge of character, but well, maybe he really is a good, responsible, heroic type, deep down, right, maybe he just needed some meaning, and a way out of his ancestors shadow?
What does Sam do? Just gets bored again one day. Just gives up. Just so happens THIS time, it is after he's had a child. He wants out of badge life, pronto, and more, he expects his wife to just drop her career and leave too. When she proves to have value beyond being his woman, beyond even being a mother, by having her own life, dreams, views, cause.... and wont... what does he do?
See a decent man, of character and righteousness, would accept that he may be chaffing, may be bored, may be miserable, BUT has a daughter... and father who helps look after her....and now she about to be down on mother time, when he moves out and leaves the Rangers... so he might have to find joys small, for the time being, ask his father for help getting a good job, settle down in little place in Akila, rely on the Grandfather Cora obviously adores, as needed, and make a life as a sole father, encouraging Lilian's access and short period custody of Cora, so she has her father, AND her mother in her life as much as possible. He should be thankful AF too Lillian did not fight him tooth and nail, when they broke up, for outright custody... he a disgraced Ranger walking out on them, shaming his father's name too, she a dedicated, well respected, and somewhat legendary lawwoman... it could have gone a lot worse for him.
But NO... Sam does not do that. Because it is NOT about what Cora needs... it is about, once more, what SAM needs.... he needs adventure... he needs new sunsets, he needs the Stars, and thrill of the Jump, and new horizons, and has coopted his daughter in to his own little 'Lone Wolf and Cub' fantasy. Space is dangerous just as space. Space filled with reclusive zealots on Jihad? Pirates of all kinds, including one crew which has the numbers and firepower to rival civilized System's navies? Mercenaries who have problems killing even children, whole outposts of civilians? Along with a whole gaggle of cutthroats, thieves, scammers, vandals, hijackers and other assorted miscreants collectively known as spacers? Oh, yes, it is not as if there is NO justification for taking your child in to THAT environment. That's before you even consider the hostility of alien planets, which can be filled with things like Terrormorphs. Though I guess Sam might be forgiven for forgetting the latter, because there's no deadly, aggressive, threatening to human, type aliens anywhere near Akila city, right? He would not be expected to know that.
Worst of all.... he is SH*T at his new life of adventure too. Sure, he gets some leads.... but he is not champing at the bit for surveying new worlds, like Barret, or Sarah, or even desperate to prove himself, do anything he can, for his new family, like Andreja.
No. Listen to Sarah and he talk, when you move them both to same ship, and have them come live with you a time out in space. Sam is given missions by Sarah, for Constellation, this new job, he is meant to have finally found meaning in.... and he NEVER DOES MOST OF THEM... they never get finished, and the one's which are are done so exceptionally late!!
Because our pathetic selfish space cowboy, got in to a thing.... was distracted in a fight.... went to a bar and something got out of hand... was chasing up a lead and ran in to this person who he ran off to do X with.... and it all.... 'just became a big thing'.....
      .... he is PATHETIC.
You accuse me of being young? I believe you must no be a parent, must never had to face true financial ruin, and have never been on the end of someone else selfishness when you're relying on them (at least beyond playground level politics), or experienced much of life at all, if you can look at Sam and see his story, and think of him as anything other than pathetic tragic figure.
But Simp away sweetheart, you do you, just do not roll in on me trying to make the inarguable argument. Sam Coe is a man-child POS who is a TERRIBLE father, was a terrible husband, and is even terrible as an explorer for Constellation. He SHOULD have gone to jail way back when, when he first crossed the line, bored looking for a thrill.
A beatings, some savage buggery, and whole lot of PTSD later, he MIGHT have been brought back to reality enough to accept the world does not owe him, nor revolve around him, and you cant just do what you want because you are bored, and do not want to live by the family traditions and history.
He is SCUM. I ensure HE is the one .... who.... well.... is one of two choices at a critical point in the game.... and getting to level of affinity with him, to ensure it..... is PAINFUL. The only reward is when you choose the other party, so he.... yeah... well that is only redeeming moment of any playthrough as far as Sam is concerned
