      They have been doing that since FO3 but AI then was dumber than dirt and they may not fire at you if they could see you. Not many gun users in Skyrim so less notable but in FO4 and FO76 they are all over the place shooting in your sneaky general direction.

    In Skyrim, it was never my intention to even go for a stealth build really. But naturally I would sneak around quite a lot, because of how useful it is. Which would result in my stealth attribute levelling up. Which made it even easier... so I did it even more...

      Nah, its just less specialized. In Skyrim, an assassin who gets detected is most likely just dead. In Starfield, an assassin who gets detected will pull out a gun and continue the fight.
      Skyrim punishes assassins for not doing assassin things. Starfield doesn't. Not good/bad game design, just preference.

  • @Hartbreak1
    @Hartbreak1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    I’m pretty sure stealth is bugged in a certain way in this game. I’m gonna use an example I discovered. I had one mission that had “kill all enemies without being detected” as an optional objective. I go to the place and spot 5 enemies + another “entity”. I see one enemy go into an isolated corner, easy kill. Then I spot 2 enemies that are far from the other enemies and no one is looking at them. I try sniping those 2 enemies but somehow the enemies keep getting alerted of those kills even though they shouldn’t. After trying for a long time I noticed that there was something that had eyes on those enemies. It was the “entity” I mentioned previously. Even though it was unrelated to the enemies, anything it saw was relayed to the enemies like it was part of the enemies. That basically made the objective impossible to do since not killing that entity was why the objective existed in the first place. Fortunately it was an optional objective so I didn’t fail the quest for that. But we basically have a new version of the “chicken reporting crimes” in Skyrim bug. Different types of unrelated creatures can alert each other of your presence or kills which makes no sense at all. I also noticed this in places where there were human enemies and worms moving around. If you killed a human enemy in front of a worm the other human enemies would be alerted if the kill even if they weren’t remotely close.

I also went my own way and followed the story mission until i was about 3 quarters through and then had the void and sense star stuff power. I had 3 pieces of chameleon gear and didnt notice a significant dip when i got concealment level 3 (although there was a small amount...but you could still have them walking straight by you without seeing you). Had an absolute blast and really enjoy the stealth, both melee with a sword and with the old earth hunting rifke and a99 (stealth archer style). If anyone is struggling with concealment challenges, as mentioned in the video you can abuse the crimson fleet pirates if you join them. Another option that worked well for me is hunting aliens. Particularly the small helpless kind. Find a planet and search around for some really small aliens. They might be the same size as a small resource node, they often move slowly and aren't exactly winning at evolution. You can just walk up behind them, crouch and a second or two later they will have forgot all about you. It gets easier after the first 10. If you're still struggling, wait until night as light has a huge impact on detection.

    I love the stealth in this game. I have not yet completed a stealth build but it's generally part of my normal play style. I love how intuitive the ai are now because I can use their new found intelligence against them. Since fallout I've always been a stealth sniper. But for indoor close quarters I use mines to maintain my distance and simply lure them to their demise, also investing in demolition. Outdoors is where it gets fun. Start out by commandeering all their defense systems then taking out a couple guys. It typically lures the majority into one direction with a couple stragglers looking the other way while I circle their base of operations, picking them off, constantly pulling them into all directions. If the ai has an imagination, they're living their worst nightmare with me at the helm.😂

    Couple other things worth it in my testing:
    Spacesuit engineering 3 lets you craft a stealth modifier onto your suit and helmet, as well as letting you reduce the overall weight, which does affect stealth. This lets you get away with better stealth shenanigans in hostile environments while still being prepared for open conflict. This also means you can use random affixes like damage bonuses and carrying capacity. The stealth mod in particular seems to allow more sneak attack triggers even when cautious enemies are shooting in my direction. Pirate Sniper suit is the best weight-to-fashion choice.
    Chems are great. Frostwolf in particular gives you movement speed increase, noise reduction, and damage boost. Not sure if you can craft it, but you can mix and match drugs for similar effect.
    Ryujin questline gives an apparal piece with a decent stealth bonus.
    Gymnastics is fun, if not useful. You can stealth jump to get sneak attacks off over cover, or just get into a better position. Combine with amp and low g planets and I've bounded on top of an enemy installation and turned their defense against them.
    Concealment isnt really necessary on a normal difficulty if you'd rather go into the easier research route like i did, but you already want Stealth, probably Weight Lifting since you are better off solo, and Gymnastics is fun. Thats all you need to access Concealment.
    I'm playing on hard with no points invested in Concealment or Combat (invested a lot of points into ship building) and it's pretty smooth still.
    I havent yet tested heavy weapon/grenade/mine stealth, or stuff like Manipulation and Diplomacy. Manipulating people into mines sounds funny tho

    Thanks for uploading this video! I rushed to play Starfield, not really knowing what I wanted to do. Once I figured out that I did want to gain some Stealth Skill I went to Google to find a good primer.
    Yours wasn't the first in the list, but it was the one I first chose and I am not disappointed.
    Far more info here than I was expecting to find and you certainly covered what my questions were. I wasn't even aware that some of the stuff I want to do has issues prior to any update. The "John Wick" approach sounds like the way I want to go and by your description this is not a simple path. That's ok, I have the required patience, so I'm actually looking forward to the challenge.
    Overall, I'm very happy to have found your video. Thank you again for all your work. If there was any critical feedback I have it's to take a breath :-) I know there was a lot to cover and that makes for a long video. And perhaps that was just a result of the edit. But I did wonder during the watch if you were gonna be ok. Really hope all is well and again you are so much appreciated!

    I really think you guys missed an opportunity a bit with the melee stealth build. If you’re going melee stealth, you can take diplomacy and pacify enemies long before you get in detectable range. What I do is pacify the enemies I can, then start assassinating the ones I couldn’t. Sometimes I’ll instigate enemies too. The thing about melee is that you don’t need 12 points in the combat tree you can just take dueling along with an instigating weapon and you’re oneshotting even without concealment. Imo the reason you use melee is to save on points for an Uber stealth build that dips in charisma too

Also stack one chameleon with the one from concealment. Use titanium build weapons like Sarah's gun and some good hard target/beoworlf/razorback, even some shotguns work. Get the Operative suit, use the scanner ability to make pple do whatever u want. By now stealth would still be kinda hit or miss if ur close to enemies but when you Also got void form and can slow down time it gets really OP. Void form with that kind of gear, makes you even able to melee in stealth but you gotta manage its cooldown and it won't really go off with chameleon so you gotta stand up ,activate it, then crouch :P. So now stealth is useful from the start but to min max it u gotta replay the game till u get that thing to rank 10 .

    Was going to edit my original post, but it was long already. The modder that made the Skill Fixes mod went into detail how the chameleon trait on equipment interacts with concealment rank 3. Quote from his posts. "The chameleon effect from armor is specifically coded to be less effective after you get the rank 3 Concealment skill. It gives 50 points of camouflage if you don't have the perk, and 20 points if you do. Concealment gives 50 points as well. 2 stacks of Chameleon without the perk would put you at 100 points, which is presumably total invisibility. 2 stacks with the perk would only put you at 90. " With this math I went back and tested concealment rank three with three pieces of chameleon armor and confirmed that it does indeed give you back your total invisibility.

    Easy way to level up your stealth skills that require pickpocket and sneak melee hits:
    Hit any job board and find a fleet bounty.
    Board the last enemy ship.
    Use a novalight or any emp weapon and emp all enemies until they are stunned that have noticed you.
    Crouch and themn wait for danger to go to caution and do the thing needed.
    If it is the successful melee attacks one use a weak weapon. Hit. Stun. Repeat. For easy multiple successful hits.

    A few things. Chameleon/Concealment rank 3 is bugged. If you have more than one piece of chameleon armor equipped you will be able to see an improvement in function. Not sure if it stacks to three or not, but two defiantly has an enhanced effect. The instant you take concealment 3 you are locked to one rank of chameleon and it overrides the armor effects. I saw this first hand in my initial play through as the mantis armor rolled 2 pieces with chameleon. I could crouch right in front of alerted enemies and they would lose me. I got concealment rank 3, and all of a sudden they could see me no matter what. The chameleon effect itself also prevents the use of iron and laser sites as it turns them invisible, though thankfully scopes still work. Another thing is that I would recommend not taking the fitness skill to get down to concealment. I know that it is a popular choice and that we do a lot of running, but there are some things that make it redundant. In early game, if you take Alien DNA, Tera Firma, and Introvert/Extrovert, you will have as much O2 as you will ever need. It only drains fast on really high gravity planets. Armor mods further enhance this. Then in mid/late game you gain a power that completely negates O2 consumption. I recommend taking the Pain Tolerance skill instead for a flat 15% physical damage reduction and a chance to receive no damage at low health. Last is an important tip for your space suits. If you get space suit design rank 3, you can put a mod on your helmet and suit called Gravitic Composites that "Reduces detection from enemies". As far as I know, no one has exact numbers on this traits performance, but it is noticeable in game and you are able to get it fairly early on.
    Edit - The 25% head shot crit chance from Sniper Certification does not seem to work. When doing the challenge for Sharpshooting i found it almost impossible without first putting points into the Marksmanship talent. No matter how many head shots I performed, only the standard crit rate seemed to apply. No one online seems to be mentioning this so I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this or if everyone is using pistols for easy crits.

    Once you get void form though it's pretty OP. You can actually run up to most enemies in void form, start sneaking, and get a stealth attack. The ironic thing is that sneaking isn't always needed to remain undetected. Light and line of sight matters so much. I've had times where I walk into a room and say hi to the enemy because I don't know if they are hostile or not and they took a long time to notice me. What I would like to see is sneak attacks applying even when standing, just make it so that detection is what matters. Melee sneak attacks would be viable if you could weave around the environment faster and would feel pretty epic. You are naturally more detectable when standing and jogging around, but if the enemy hasn't detected you then it should still count as a stealth attack. There could even be an in between, say you get only half the sneak attack bonus. But ideally I think it should just lean in to the system that is in place. Crouching makes you harder to detect but it's not night and day like past games. The same factors matter to detection whether you are standing or not and a sneak attack should only be dependent on whether that enemy is aware of you not also that you are crouching.

    • @dra6o0n
      @dra6o0n 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Try luring an enemy from afar to run down a corridor with you behind the corner. It counts as a stealth attack if you swing right as they walk past the corner. It takes a short duration for them to detect you and if they die instantly to melee stealth damage, you are safe and other enemies may notice and come over too.

    • @oni1608
      @oni1608 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean then what would be the difference between what you are saying and regular straight up melee combat? The whole point of a stealth build is to methodically sneak around and pick off enemies one by one either with melee sneak attacks or at range with suppressed weapons. That is the fantasy of the assassin, operative, ninja, sniper, etc.
      If there is no reason to crouch and go slowly, why even bother with it? Just go straight melee and run around and kill. It's faster and more effective. I want to be able to role play the assassin and this game makes it significantly more difficult to get going than previous games by Bethesda.

    • @Cjorss
      @Cjorss 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @oni1608 The difference is that in past games, everyone would just spot you instantly if you were standing. While you were practically invisible when crouching. In this game, you can make effective use of cover and weave around objects yet remain undetected, while crouching does not guarantee anything. So the difference between what I am saying and regular melee combat is that you would still have to maneuver around the environment carefully to avoid detection if you want the bonus damage. You just wouldn't have to be crouching when you make the attacks.

    The number one thing i want from stealth right now is no sound detection in no atmosphere environments. Or almost no sound. Like only hearing your own gun fire or when you get hit. I understand why they make sounds in space games and movies. But i think it should be a option. I know it will be a mod as soon as the Creation Kit comes out. It would make attacking a moon base with no atmosphere at night easy. Like being the Predator from the Predator movies. I think it would be super fun and completely different to how you would attack the base on a normal earth like planet. Also no sound from outside your space suit would mean enemies could sneak up on you too. They could leave in the COMs chatter. When the NPC's are talking with space suits on. It would make sense that the space suits just broadcast coms all the time unless you specifically set up a secure channel. In my mind anyway.

      @@tacitus7797 There's also an issue with chameleon that if it takes affect while you're under caution and in an enemy's sight line (even if you aren't actively being seen) that enemy instant-aggroes.
      I >think< it has to do with the way the AI is coded to prevent chameleon from being an "I-win" button in a shootout, but instead of doing the normal "we know the general area you are but are shooting blindly in that direction", it treats it like full detection.
      And there's also a separate issue that has to do with "restricted areas" (which the area leading up to the vault is unless you ask for a tour) where guards sometimes see you passing into the area when it is clearly out of their sight line - I'm guessing that one is a bug in the AI coding that has NPCs follow you around when you're in an area they are guarding. It seems to work fine in areas where they just say "You shouldn't be here." but causes issues when they are scripted to be hostile if they find you in that area.
