    Great guide! just repaired 2 controllers that previously had stick drift

    These repair was done on the early edition controller with no audio jack 3.5mm. This joystick has lead solder on it. The new controller with the audio jack has lead free solder and its almost impossible to melt in the through hole

      make sure you have a high flux solder wick, this will help with the lead free solder

      @@TheMachineShopUK What happens if the metal plate (tracer joint) was removed accidently, is the pcb done for or can it be repaired, is the metal plate for ground or connected to a pcb wire?

      @@dlpvapor919 series x and last gen xbox one pads are all lead solder with the holes way tinnier close to impossible to do a quick job, took me an hour to fully lean the solder before replacing new ones, secret is high temp, quick contact, not too long or u could use blower from a solder station, or buy a solder iron with sucker built in goes around USD 6 bucks.

      @@Will_Fong thanks, I forgot to say I had a sixaxis no rumble edition, im trying to make contact with scratching the green board for the copper to show up since the rounded metal joint ripped off, is there any way?

    The second set of cables you desoldered are actually for the rumbles in the triggers not for the bumpers, the bumpers are independant buttons that can be removed by desoldering, just fyi, great vid though thankyou

      Came all the way down here to point that out and you beat me to it, lol. I only know from "sacrificing" a totally dead controller to "science" (cannibalized it for parts to fix my half dozen other unusable controllers, or at least... I'm trying to)

    @jestes7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I heard those joysticks are trash because they have a larger deadzone. Meaning you can't start moving as quickly as the original joysticks. Is this true in your experience?

    Can you show us the best way to solder the rumble wires back on?

    I fixed the joystick just like u showed us and when I tried to use my controller it was even worse. Anything I did wrong or just bad replacement parts

    1.xb one joystick module can use on 360 controller? 2.ur solder is 0.5mm?

    Do you have to use solder wick?

    Hi, what can I do if when I try to solder the analog stick in the motherboard the solder sticks to the iron and can't get it on the motherboard?

    • @TheMachineShopUK

      JesRX Hi @JesRX solder will glow to the area with the most head. I usually put the soldering iron so it’s touching the pad and then pin, let it sit there for a second or two and then push the solder onto the pin. Because the pin and the pad is hot, it should stick to the board. Hope this helps, regards @machineshopuk

      @@TheMachineShopUK oh I see how I messed up, I accidentally broke the pads from the motherboard so the solder couldn't go anyways but the iron, anyways thank you for your response

    Having real trouble melting the lead free solder, any tips?
    One of the the metal squares under the solder has come off, is it needed?

    • @TheMachineShopUK

      Try using liquid flux and yes they are, if it’s come disconnected then you will need to find out what it’s connected to and run a thin wire

    Did you use flux anywhere in this process?

      Hi David, no my solder wick and solder have flux embedded, but it is a good idea to use flux as well

    How hot do you run the soldering iron when adding/removing?

    • @TheMachineShopUK
      @TheMachineShopUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's normally wise to start off at like 300*C and then move up from there, I usually have my soldering iron set at 400*C but it can depend on the solder that you are using. If you are finding that 300*C isn't getting anywhere then slowly increase it.

    My desoldering wic will NOT pull the solder into the wic. It just bubbles and puddles out.

      Try some multicore / loctite or get some flux
