This explanation is so insanely detailed yet accurate and needed! I have been playing for over 12 years, I am a very powerfull player but have always struggled with the backhand because I never received an explanation/training as detailed as this. I am going to show my trainer and ask him to guide me like this! Very much appreciated and I am going to binge-watch the rest of your videos!

One of the best explanation I have seen for doing the Backhand clear. I have been following online for number of years and have never seen this level of detailed breakdown - THANK YOU and keep the videos coming
Today I hit backhand clears from doubles service line to doubles service line with minimal effort. I was so happy when i got ur technique right for the first time. From the usual dull sound of my backhand clear to “that” sound was incredible. Thank u so much sir!!
Your video is the best, I follow so many other videos and I cannot do the back hand clear correctly, your is so clear, now I can clear my shuttle , I need to practice a little bit more .
Very good explanation and guide for us old players who played in open courts and streets, without a trainer, wanting to improve the backhand after decades....
Perhaps the the best video I have seen online explaining backhand clear. The concept and technique is so well explained. Many thanks for this! 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Hope to give you gurudakshina some day. Please make something on footwork: split step etc.
The answer to the pinned post/question above is: In the video there is a part where I show how the grip changes based on where you’re catching it. Where you catch it all depends on how much trouble you’re in. Ideally, the best place to contact the shuttle on a backhand is right next to you. The further behind you contact it, the less effective the shot. How low or high in space you should contact it again depends on how much trouble you’re in. Ideally, if you’re not in a lot of trouble and have chosen to play a backhand more out of apathy than necessity, your contact point depends on what shot you want to play. If you’re in this place of luxury, the ideal spot will be not quite at the highest point where the arm is fully extended, but just below. At this point there would be a slight bend in your elbow and an angle in your wrist, both of which will allow you to generate enough power for a smash or clear. And this would allow you to have enough play in both joints to play a straight or cross drop. So try to get to the shuttle as fast as you can so you’re in this ideal backhand position. And if you’re not, adjust your grip and just get out of the situation with the most neutral shot possible.
I hit this shot quite well.. But by seeing this video I realised that my technique was flawed.. I used my wrist strength to generate the force.. Whereas Prit says to engage the muscle.. What a revelation.. Thanks a lot for this great video...
abhishek ojha perfect! Take a look at the shorter and more concise version if you haven’t already. It has a piece of I formation in it which the version you commented on does not which will be very helpful. th-cam.com/video/KbhtWkdgAtU/w-d-xo.html
Mujeeb Pervez thank you. Check out the re-mastered version which has an added detail the long version doesn’t which you’ll find really helpful. th-cam.com/video/KbhtWkdgAtU/w-d-xo.html
Wow! Such clarity and depth of detail. I loved the exercises that you described in front of a mirror, off the court. So many of us don't have regular access to courts. Please keep posting such helpful technique-related videos. More power to you, Prit!
Very nice tutorial for hometraining and attention to the hitchhickers dumb and the flat 8. I use this exercise for the kids with a broomstick to add more weight and enlarge the movement. Two things to add. 1) first movement for the footwork for the backcourt backhandstroke should be pointed at the rear and then more sideways, as opposed to overhead where the first movement is to the side and then to the back fo the court 2) you should allways try to complete the whipslash by not only extending to the shuttle but also bringing your ellbow back to the body (from high to low) before impact.
Deepak R Chandravanshi thank you! See my other version on back hand which has I got this one does not. It’s also more concise and has no music to detract from the teaching. Thank you for your feedback.
Bery detailed .. i have seen atleast 10 backhand videos and i am still trying to improve my technique. So far the best bast backhand video i watched . Thanks for posting this
Furthy Thirtyfour very sorry about that and thank you for informing me. I’ve corrected it in the link. Here is the correct link: th-cam.com/video/KbhtWkdgAtU/w-d-xo.html
Aman thank you:) here’s a shorter more concise version (without music) with an added component which will be very valuable. th-cam.com/video/KbhtWkdgAtU/w-d-xo.html
Hi, it was very clear. I am going to try it in detail. Thanks. There are always some shots you can not hit them even by backhand. I mean when you have to run to get them so you can not hit them by smash or backhand .Could you give us a clear lesson about these kind of situations as well?
Hi Dear, your well explained video is very good for the back hand shots. I think it is more perfectly for the shuttle position is high and have enough time but during a tight match with a better opponent, if we have to reach for the backhand shot after taking a drop shot from front right hand corner, when we reach to taking the same the shuttle may be lower in the back hand side, hence how can we take that ? How can we produce more power for the back hand short ? Can you help me to suggest ?
You sir, are one brilliant teacher, thank you. But I think there is one part that you left out, and that is where in the air should you make contact with the shuttle in relation to your body; should it be just behind, level or in front of your head/shoulder, and how high from the ground is the best place to make contact?
As a general rule of thumb, the best place to hit the shuttle will always be to your front, and at the highest possible point of impact. Therefore, if you can manage a shot that is high and at your front, then take that shot. However, he is also teaching us how to hit shots that are at the back and low, because in badminton, especially when you are under heavy pressure, you will have to make shots like these. TL;DR: take the easy shots (front, high), but practice for the hard shots (behind, low).
Thanks coach.. I was wondering how these guys are doing it so easily.. really helpful tips.. practiced it and it works.. i think i should practice more to get perfect short... do you have any video for back hand cross drop?? kindly reply with link..thanks a ton
tds qatar yes keep practicing until the preload phase disappears or at least becomes more subtle. I have the raw footage for the BH X DROP. Will put together as a proper video soon. For now. Turn the racket inwards by shifting the way you hold the handle (turn onwards by 1/4”) so racket head faces the corner you’re trying to hit to. Then slice the shuttle from the outside. If you can at least see that the shuttle is going x-court (even if you’re not hitting it over the net) you’re on the right path.
Great video! looking forward to developing this shot - Off-topic, but are they supportive socks you are wearing? I sprained my ankle a few years back but still feel it today. Any support helps, but the ankle brace I used is a bit bulky, I'm looking for something a bit more intermediate.
Mark .G they’re actually a type of knee support for my ageing knees! They have “stays”in them for rigidity. I have them on all the time in the event when I’m playing and training a high level player. It’s also just a comfort thing to know they’re there but I try not to actually wear them too much in order to keep strong. Unless you’ve damaged your ankles I would implement a strength and conditioning (S&C)program focusing particularly on your ankle stability. Check out Athlean X on you tube and see what Chris Cavalier has to say on the subject. I will be making videos on S&C.
Prit Pachu thanks for the reply. Yes I actually subscribe to him - he has some good advice for us (slightly) older guys to keep in shape. Will check out the strength training. Now off to the courts to practice this backhand before the first match of the season! Thanks for you videos once again.
Rakesh kumar already have footage for this. Just need to find time in the list of all the video requests and what I think is important (and lacking on TH-cam) which will make the real differences in people’s games
One question coach. You use the side of your thumb to perform this shot. I always thought it was the flat of the thumb on the bevel of the racket for backhand clears. Why is it important to use the side of the thumb? Great video though, very well explained and great close up camera from different angles to show each shot!
Thanks for your question Alan. The position of the thumb changes depending on how far behind you’re having to contact the shuttle. What matters is that the racket face is square (or flush) at contact of the intention is to hit straight and/or the intention is to produce maximum power. Any slight deviation in the angle of the head will cause slice (therefore a change in direction) and loss of power (the shuttle will deflect along several strings rather than impact on a single point in the strings). So thumb position changes in order to maintain the angle of the head. If the shot you’re playing is right next to you, then you can use the flat side of your thumb because it’ll maintain the said angle in the racket head. But if the shuttle is WAY behind you then the side of the thumb will have to be in contact with the bevel as this is the only way to keep the racket square upon impact.
Blue Sea if you subscribe (in case you haven’t already), you’ll see I have all sorts of videos including the one you’ve requested. This is backhand x-drop but the straight drop is exactly the same without the slice. I’ll be making one specifically for the straight drop but it is almost exactly the same as the x-court. th-cam.com/video/KmDtvFpzbqY/w-d-xo.html
All good. Only the thumb position is wrong.. thumb has very little role in backhand clear.. it is used just to support(see other videos).. but good thing that you pointed out is wrist lock. That is the most important thing in backhand clear. Thanks a lot
Heri Cng no it doesn’t apply to forehands. Forehand wrist flexion requires the wrist to be loose but at contact the wrist will tighten up. But it’s not “pre-locked” as it’s is in the backhand.
Hi, I like your explanation. This week I wanna try all of the technique you have taught on court. Can I request you to make a video about cross court net shots? ( I'm left handed btw) thx in advance.

Amazing explanation!!
All good. Only the thumb position is wrong.. thumb has very little role in backhand clear.. it is used just to support(see other videos).. but good thing that you pointed out is wrist lock. That is the most important thing in backhand clear. Thanks a lot
thanks a lot. Just what I need
Great
Thanks
Basil Mathew thank you. I have a more condensed version but with a valuable added info piece to it if you take a look at my channel.

Great explanation.👍
Are this wrist lock rule applied too in forehand / pronation?
Heri Cng no it doesn’t apply to forehands. Forehand wrist flexion requires the wrist to be loose but at contact the wrist will tighten up. But it’s not “pre-locked” as it’s is in the backhand.

Hi, I like your explanation. This week I wanna try all of the technique you have taught on court. Can I request you to make a video about cross court net shots? ( I'm left handed btw) thx in advance.
Jerry Wi made it already but will be re-mastering it shortly by getting rid of the music and making it more concise
