Agreed: the MM/P should be the way you laid it out.....have you considered just adding the P on a separate circuit? You'd probably have to replace the control plate for something larger and possibly a larger route.....Edit: speedy recovery to you on the hand.
Funny you mention that, I have considered adding the P pickup to the pull part of the push/pull pot in it. Might be a fun idea to have an active P and active MM. We'll see lol.
Hard to get off the shelf pickguards to fit right for anything non Fender (and even then I dunno if I'd trust it). Thought about getting it cloned? Or getting a blank sheet of pickguard material and having a go yourself? Hope your hand gets sorted soon.
