One thing that never gets enough praise is how well Heckseville's arquitecture and structure was made. Often is superhero games the city is just a bunch of grey skyscrapers, stock houses and trees. In GR the city, meshed with the artstyle makes for such an interesting place to just walk around and explore, sadly there's not a lot in there and the AI doesn't do much but walk around but even then it's so fun to just fly from point to point looking at how cool things are, technology, markets, places where people live, even the barron and even eerie parts from the city that humans can't access to are cool looking, Kat being able to fly around was used to it's full potential when it comes to the "playground" and that's why I feel the game, although short, can stretch it's lenght, even though fast-traveling it's a thing in the game, I did not use it once, I would just rather take my time flying around, maybe even walk a little, it's just too pretty.
i'm so glad someone brought this up. Heckseville is not only beautifully designed but makes sense in its architecture. it's the one time in a game like this where walking around and not using your powers is a valid option since you can get from one part of the island to the other without having to use your abilities. everything feels like it has a place and a purpose and the designers have my respect for that.
Wouldn't calling Kat a superhero... If we can call her a superhero, then technically we can call Cardcaptor Sakura or Sailor Moon superheroes too right? And by that logic, we could also say Wonder Woman, Spider Gwen or Captain Marvel are magical girls.
I have no reason to believe otherwise but Gravity Rush has a very honest PS2 Classic atmosphere around it. It's an utterly mesmerising game and it rewards those that pay attention when it comes to the narrative. There are many mysteries still left unanswered at this point so I'm very excited to finish Gravity Rush 2 now that I finally have it after all these years...
Nick Chugg I was getting these really nice Spyro vibes from the first one. A big world that's fun to explore, fun challenges based on the immensely satisfying core mechanics, etc. Anybody who loves games like that should look into Gravity Rush.
One thing that suprised me was the verticality and the depth of the levels,it's one of those things that you wish every open world had,how you can fly around and inside it,how it seems to be a real city where you could just walk and find interesting stuff and approach that from every angle just blew me away.
Gravity Rush is one of my favorite games, and so far the sequel is just as good, if not better, than the original. It also feels a lot longer, though that could just be because I'm going for 100%.
The song from Red vs. Blue titled "Falling Towards the Sky" just became this game's official unofficial theme in my book. Also, thank you for making this video, as I've been greatly intrigued by this series since I saw a trailer for the sequel shortly before getting my PS4, however I was really unsure of what to expect from it, and this makes me really excited to play it. As far as the simple combat system... well that's never really bothered me in games unless its also extraordinarily clunky and awkward, it's supposed to be the games selling point, or it's an RPG where your gonna be using it a lot for a long time.
So, having completed the game's story a few days ago, and taking a little time to try out some of the challenge missions, find some secret enemies, collect the time traveler narrative in full and search every corner and crevice for super gravity amethysts before I move crack open the sequel, I can back everything HyperBit says, except for the part about completing it in two sittings, as It took me more like four or five when you add in time for exploring areas, scrounging for gems to upgrade your abilities, checking out sidemissions, and throwing the protagonist across the city and a few unfortunate bystanders to their would-be death were the game an ounce more realistic. One thing I feel like I should say about the combat system is that, while it can certainly get repetitive, as long as you get gems (by collecting them or through challenges) and upgrade the gravity kick as well as the special attack that lets you bomb enemies with meteors to thin out what would otherwise be long and somewhat tedious engagements, it's not so bad. Also, two things everyone should know going into this are A: Pressing down on the D-pad realigns the camera with actual down while you're floating, and whatever down currently applies to you if you're standing. B: Up on the D-pad is first person, and you can fall and fly around in this perspective until you land. I do also have one sidenote about the protagonist, and it can good or bad depending on your taste, but Kat is essentially an amnesiac with every other anime girl cliche wrapped up with a bow of good, nice, and optimistic, with moments of sass that help make moments of dialogue pretty amusing, not quite funny, but occasionally warranting a grin. Now with that text wall of footnotes out of the way I think I'm done here... oh wait, there is one more. Protag is adorable.
"Action game SAAAVEY!~~" I like the sound of that. I am action game savvy thank you very much. :) I tried the first game on vita, wasn't to shabby. I played it at a friend's house. I tried the second game's demo. It wasn't too shabby. I played it at a friend's house. I'd probably get both on a PS4...if I had one.
Thanks for making this, Gravity Rush is one of my favourite games that I can never get people to play so I'm glad this will spread the word a bit more. Also a quick bit of trivia regarding the music: The soundtrack was composed by Kohei Tanaka, who is also the composer for the anime One Piece, which explains why a lot of the songs have the same feel as the show.
You know what is funny? I never realized untill watching this that Gravity Rush is indeed a magical girl story and Kat is a magical girl. Perhaps that is why I like it so much.
Gravity rush saga is a such MASTERPIECE OF THE MODERN INDUSTRY GAMING. One of the best games with quality to Zelda Ocarina of time and Super metroid And for me the best game that i have the pleasure to play in my life, more Gravity rush 2
Gravity Rush in my opinion is such an underrated gem that isn't appreciated enough. The game really reminds me of the PS1/PS2 days of Japanese gaming with quirky but charming humor and a higher essence on gameplay with creative aspects of refreshing game mechanics. I really miss those days when games were trying to be creative and fun. Nowadays it's more about focus testing, trend followers or repetitive checklist if anything. But this year is actually shaping up a bit at least. I think Gravity Rush would have been more appreciated during the PS2 days but because of the limited memory capacity of the tech it would have been hard to utilize the mechanics on a dated hardware especially when the game relies heavily on physics. I can't wait to play the sequel but I've heard the game is running at 30 fps so after playing the first one on PS4 it would probably feel jarring at first.
Definitely a must buy for all Vita/PS4 owners. Had a hell of good time playing such an amazing game, most definitely. Would play it again in a heartbeat.
So there's this Ice-Pick Lodge gamedev studio that is mostly known for their survival-horror about mysterious city covered in fog, but then they went to make an upbeat and bright game about gravity manipulation. Now I only need a third example and we can proclaim this a trend.
I love how they adress that heavy gravity around black holes (basically the gravity storms) slows down. The massive storm at the base of the pillar means that you experience less at the base while the middle sees more events pass (a year of middle time is equivalent to an ambiguous handful of days at the base) while the top of the pillar experiences exponentially more. I just wish theyd tied it to gameplay somehow.
Damn, this looks fantastic. A game city's visual design hasn't looked this good since Bioshock. Will definitely have to bump this up a few places on my list
I randomly played the demo about a month or so ago not know what to expect. Replayed the demo like 5 times, bought the remaster of the first game, platinumed it in 2 days, then got the sequel on launch. It literally did become my "next favorite." People, buy this game!
Welp, since I just ticked off Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown from my "Reasons I should fetch a PlayStation 4" list on account of it's multi-platform announcement, better add Gravity Rush to it alongside the localised Ryu ga Gotoku (Like a Dragon)/Yakuza 0. Thanks for reminding me that there's always something interesting both old & new to find outside of my search scope! And for hooking me on Ryu ga Gotoku's soundtrack! I can't get enough of that sweet, sweet stuff!
Kat is my favorite female protagonist of all time. Her personality and character development were great in GR1, I haven't seen GR2 but I'm hoping her character is even better there.
Just finished this game a few days ago. Absolutely loved the exploration. Being able to just fall and fly to get anywhere makes getting around so fun. The story is a little too vague at times, and the combat can be pretty frustrating, but I enjoyed the game a lot. Music/art was great as well. The kind of light hearted game I've been missing. Just got the sequel, and am enjoying it even more. Highly recommend both!
Again, I'm finding your videos to be extremely timely. You always seem to bring out videos on stuff that I'm playing or thinking about at the time. I guess it's not a huge surprise, with the sequel out recently, but I picked this game up a few months ago and totally fell in love with it. It's so full of energy and fun, and that soundtrack! Quickly became on of my all-time favourites. Currently about 2/3 of the way through GR2 as well. It's not massively different. It simply builds a lot on what came before. But there's nothing wrong with that. It's a blast.
Totally agree with your points. Bought the Remastered version and couldn't put it down. Got my Platinum trophy last night and loved playing it. Ready to play GR2!
I remember when I preordered a Vita for launch for Gravity Daze(yes I know it's Gravity Rush but at the first announcement it was still Daze), then was even more happy when they ported it to PS4 for the release for Gravity Rush 2. Though I thought they spoke French?
I hadn't watched your videos since DmC: Devil May Cry's Dante rendition got torn apart by your review, but between that and your love of Gravity Rush and Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner, you've earned another subscriber, HyperBitHero.
I had the same experience. When I played the game on the PS4 I got the feeling that the game was much longer on the Vita. I don't think it's because it got shorter but rather it's because we'd already played it before. Even if we might no remember everything in the game we know where things are and where to go. Muscle memory comes back fast for the trial missions and challenges. We don't explore as much because we've already have.I had the same experience when I played Okami on the PS3. It took me 80 hours the first time I played it on the PS2 but I beat it in around 40 or 50 on my second play through on the PS3. So, it's not shorter. People playing it for the first time will take as long as we did on the Vita, it's just that we've already know where stuff is.
Your response is pretty accurate, although I wasn't' being serious. Was mostly just poking fun at HBH since he is always super passionate about Yakuza catching on in the west. That said, I'm extremely happy to see the positive coverage Yakuza 0 has been getting in the west.
I absolutely love you, please keep making videos. You're my favorite youtuber! also I finished this game 2 hours before you posted this, honestly made me happy. very ironic
this game is so wonderful and so is the sequel, it depresses me to no end that it seems GR2 is bombing miserable, couldnt even crack the top 15 sellers first week in the uk. I havent beaten 2 so i dont know if it wraps up everything but its looking like there wont be a 3 regardless. Still im grateful such a charming game existed in the first place.
I've been a subscriber for a while on your channel and I've watched this vid when it first came out. I picked the game not long after and played a bit before moving on. I've recently gone back and finally finished the game and I just want to thank you for recommending games such as these! Channels like yours and TGBS's are massively underrated and introduced me to gems that I probably would never pick up on my own. Now on to GR2!
I loved this game when I played it on my Vita. Of course, all the good Vita exclusives have to be ported to PS4 or Windows, so I bought the game again once I finally got a PS4. I have a mighty need for the sequel but I've already spent enough money on games this month.
I saw a trailer or something about this back in the day but I couldnt find any way to play it and eventually I forgot about it , thanks for reminding me! I bet I can find it now
Ah, Yakuza, Gravity Rush and Saber as your waifu. Supremely great taste. Combat is much better in the sequel. Feels so much better to play. Kat is still cute! CUTE!
Can you do an in depth analysis on the character of Cole MacGrath or Delsin Rowe? Maybe both? Am I the only one who feels the inFAMOUS franchise just got forgotten? ANYONE??
Well you sold me on the game. And I loved it despite some problems here and there. Bugger it, I'm gonna buy the sequel right now, 90€ spent in two days, that hurts so good.
This is the only open world game that I can say I liked and is also good. In perfect honesty I cannot say that open world games as a genre are good because of one thing that Gravity Rush does that no other open world game does. Gravity rush is built vertically while all other (or at least the vast majority of) open world games are built to be as wide and flat as possible.Recently I have seen franchises suffer for attempting open world such as MGSV and FFXV to name two, and while I personally enjoy those games, I could never say they are good, in fact they are both downright bad sometimes. Gravity Rush was bought on a whim by me quite recently (I didn't even know about the sequel until the day after i bought it) and i spent three whole days beating the game to absolute completion. It's so much fun that i honestly struggle to think of it as an open world game at all really.
tbh i think combat wise it shouldn't be DMC or Bayonetta style, I think the combat like the travel is suppose to feel like your barely in control and flying by the seat of your pants, I see it more as an abstract platforming game where you direct the ground pounds than an action beat em up.
Won't be picking up Gravity Rush 2 just yet. Between Kingdom Hearts, RE7, and Yakuza 0, I just don't have the money for it. Plus I have to finish Gravity Rush on my Vita.
Karl Eriksson If you're trying to decide which one needs your support more to stay relevant, I'd say Gravity Rush. Yakuza's been getting a lot more publicity recently, while Gravity Rush only really has a cult following.
You think i should play Yakuza 1 or wait for Yakuza Kiwami to be released in the west this year? Really want to get into the series, it looks.... fucking awesome. Also, should i just get Yakuza zero now or play that after 5?
I dunno, man. I played Gravitu Rush and it was fun for what it is but I don´t really want to play more of it. There is just barely anything to do or to find in the world despite a great movements system. Sure, there are challemges but they felt more like busywork than anything else.
So you aren't flying, but you're falling with style?
+SAGEuSUNX21 Yes! This needs to be top comment.
and it is, oh this world is amazing
Indeed
Literally everyone has made that joke but it never gets old.
One thing that never gets enough praise is how well Heckseville's arquitecture and structure was made. Often is superhero games the city is just a bunch of grey skyscrapers, stock houses and trees. Ameb
I mean, amen!
Wouldn't calling Kat a superhero... If we can call her a superhero, then technically we can call Cardcaptor Sakura or Sailor Moon superheroes too right? And by that logic, we could also say Wonder Woman, Spider Gwen or Captain Marvel are magical girls.
THIS. This game needs so much more publicity, what an underappreciated gem.
I have no reason to believe otherwise but Gravity Rush has a very honest PS2 Classic atmosphere around it.
It's an utterly mesmerising game and it rewards those that pay attention when it comes to the narrative.

This game is up there with Hulk Ultimate Destruction and Spider-Man 2 when it comes to transportation in an open world game.
"That wasn't flying. That was just... Falling with style!"- The Game.
Kat's cuter than Saber.
I'm enjoying Gravity Rush 2 as of now.
I imagine the next video will be "Your Next Waifu: Saber"
Heh, which one?
Shintai Why are people saying that Saber is his waifu?
Jimmy Joseph On twitter he's been showing off the absurd amount of Saber figures he bought, he even has them in a fucking display case.
Shintai The magnificent bastard. Never change, HBH.

I really don't want the vita to die and it's a shame all these vita games only get attention when they aren't on vita anymore.
I played the crap out of this game when it first came out on vita. Because it was like the only game for the system at the time!!
Damn, this looks fantastic. A game city's visual design hasn't looked this good since Bioshock. Will definitely have to bump this up a few places on my list
Fun fact: you can play as Kat in a lesser known game on the Vita named Soul Sacrifice.
Lately, I've been fond of the worlds in games as well as the gameplay, so this game seems right up my alley.
I randomly played the demo about a month or so ago not know what to expect. Replayed the demo like 5 times, bought the remaster of the first game, platinumed it in 2 days, then got the sequel on launch.
It literally did become my "next favorite." People, buy this game!
for people who love the soundtrack, the digital 47-track OST is on PSN for $12, and it allows copying tracks onto a USB drive
Really dumb of me, but man I was ecstatic that you included Douse Shinundakara at the end of the video. Great video for an underrated franchise.
Picked up the Remaster on the January PSN sale, I do not regret it, it's a ton of fun and Kat is adorable.
Glad to see some Gravity Rush love.
how does he make every game he talks about look so good? like, i need to go out right now and buy this game, good
Best character in Playstation Allstars
I was gonna support the Yakuza franchise BUT this video convinced me that the real game I need to check out is Gravity Rush 2! Thanks, Hyper!
Just finished this game a few days ago. Absolutely loved the exploration. Being able to just fall and fly to get anywhere makes getting around so fun. I was sold on this game even before you started talking. This looks fun as heck.
Yea Gravity Rush 2 definitely got dark by the return to Hekseville and Final Chapter. Also 2 bosses are Eldritch Abominations
Ending with Douse Shinundakara? 10/10, the only correct choice.
Again, I'm finding your videos to be extremely timely. You always seem to bring out videos on stuff that I'm playing or thinking about at the time. Gravity Rush is fun. There's nothing else to really say about it. It just... feels good.
a new hyperbithero video? Time to drop everything I was doing.
I hadn't watched your videos since DmC: Devil May Cry's Dante rendition got torn apart by your review, but between that and your love of Gravity Rush and Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner, you've earned another subscriber, HyperBitHero.
THANKS TO YOU I JUST BOUGHT BOTH GAMES! Gravity Rush Remastered was nearly out of stock at the game stores and the last one just got purchased by me.
Gravity Rush just makes me happy.
I had the same experience. When I played the game on the PS4 I got the feeling that the game was much longer on the Vita.
I don't think it's because it got shorter but rather it's because we'd already played it before. Even if we might no remember everything in the game we know where things are and where to go. You're diverting Yakuza sales.

I saw a trailer or something about this back in the day but I couldnt find any way to play it and eventually I forgot about it , thanks for reminding me! I bet I can find it now
This was one of the first games I got on my PS4 and I loved it
Ah, Yakuza, Gravity Rush and Saber as your waifu.
Supremely great taste. Combat is much better in the sequel. Feels so much better to play. Kat is still cute! CUTE!
I already was interested in the two games because of the demo for Gravity Rush 2, but you've definitely pushed me toward the "will buy" category
9:09 "It is not a perfect game, but Your Next Favorite has never been about perfect anything"
Shut up, ZOE2 is PERFECT, did you hear me? PER-FEC-T! xD
Ok, that outro song sold me on the game
just bought Gravity Rush Remastered and Gravity Rush 2..
yeah I know I'm late.. but it's aaaaaaawweeeesooooome.
If more games like this come out for the PlayStation 4 I might end up purchasing one.
Oh your back haven't seen you in a long time lol
If you didn't see, I did a video on SHODAN back in November.
HyperBitHero oh ok
HyperBitHero 6 November was almost 3 months ago, so he's right.
Perfect summary of this game. As per usual from your videos.
Can you do an in depth analysis on the character of Cole MacGrath or Delsin Rowe? Maybe both? Am I the only one who feels the inFAMOUS franchise just got forgotten? ANYONE??
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSEEE DO THIS!!!
Gravity Rush 2 is pretty damn fun so far.
Well you sold me on the game. And I loved it despite some problems here and there.
Bugger it, I'm gonna buy the sequel right now, 90€ spent in two days, that hurts so good.
Just started gravity rush 2, it is so much a better game than the first
This is the only open world game that I can say I liked and is also good.
Ayyyy, good to have you back!
The game's artstyle suddenly gave me Marvel Comics vibe, I don't know why
Hell yeah, Gravity Rush!
First Yakuza ;)
I love this series of yours. It's my favorite.
tbh i think combat wise it shouldn't be DMC or Bayonetta style, I think the combat like the travel is suppose to feel like your barely in control and flying by the seat of your pants, I see it more as an abstract platforming game where you direct the ground pounds than an action beat em up.
MUSIC IS SO GOOD.
pretty fascinating game, never knew it existed. good vid dude
Hell yeah. Gravity Rush is really good
The only game I've platinumed
Thanks for the new video Hero!
Yeah man, I've been meaning to check this game out.
Soon.
Hate to sound cliché but what's the name of the background song from the beginning till 2:30?
It's v catchy.
Punk Duck Pleasure Quarter, from the game's ost :)
Cheers
he did use songs from the gravity rush soundtrack, just look it up on youtube. The one starting at 2:30 is the Main Theme from Gravity Rush.
Punk Duck "Discovery of Gravitation"
Nick Chugg that's incorrect
I thought the 1st one was barely mediorce i hope the second one is good
Sul Sul Nooboo, Ooh Be Gah Whippna Choba Dog!
Won't be picking up Gravity Rush 2 just yet. Between Kingdom Hearts, RE7, and Yakuza 0, I just don't have the money for it. Plus I have to finish Gravity Rush on my Vita.
This is probably the first time i am saying no thank you
I wanted to get the second game but I REALLY wanted to play the first before I do, so now I have to wait a bit before I can afford the second game.
Vyktar Sucks that the remaster of 1 on PS4 is over $100 physically...
shenmue3hype I got it for like $30 on Amazon
I really want to play this! Too bad the remaster costs a fortune.
HYPERBITHERO
WHERE U BEEN MAN!
The great debate: Buy Yakuza 0 for more Yakuza or buy GR 2 to support a former Vita franchise.
Why is that even up for debate lol, straight up get yakuza
Karl Eriksson If you're trying to decide which one needs your support more to stay relevant, I'd say Gravity Rush. Yakuza's been getting a lot more publicity recently, while Gravity Rush only really has a cult following.
He's alive!
I subscribed to you quite recently so I was wondering when would you upload again, I really enjoy your content.
I really don't think we need more ow the edge magical girls.
You think i should play Yakuza 1 or wait for Yakuza Kiwami to be released in the west this year? Really want to get into the series, it looks.... fucking awesome. Also, should i just get Yakuza zero now or play that after 5?
+HyperBitHero The Vita version is on sale right now, I plan to get a PS4 but not probably till early August. Is it worth it?
Great video as always :)
I dunno, man. I played Gravitu Rush and it was fun for what it is but I don´t really want to play more of it. There is just barely anything to do or to find in the world despite a great movements system. Sure, there are challemges but they felt more like busywork than anything else.
