my time to shine. SPOILERS AHEAD Movie Title: A Little Princess (adapted from a book by Frances Hodgson Burnett) The little girl is named Sara Crewe and she was once a boarder in an all girl's dormitory run by Ms. Minchin (the one who tells the police to take her away. The man is her father but he got amnesia and everyone thought he died. Before going to war, he left Sara in the care of Ms. Minchin in her school. Before this, they lived in India together but her father nedded to go to war so she was left at a boarding school. She was treated like a princess because her father had money and spoils her a lot. Sara is very kind to everyone even to people who aren't very nice. One day Ms. Minchin receives a letter than Captain Crewe (Sara's father) died in the war. Ms. Minchin then takes away Sara's things and then treats her like a slave, starving her and making her work hard for food. This scene is towards the end of the movie where Sara was escaped to the neighbors because Ms. Minchin was accusing her of stealing her own necklace that was given by her father. She sees him there and recognizes him but he doesn't recognize her. As she was being taken out of the house, her father suddenly remembers her and they get reunited. Ms. Minchin gets punished by being ousted from her own boarding school and she becomes a chimney sweep. (In the book Sara's dad dies and he's not in the military but a successful business man. When he died he left diamond mines as Sara's inheritance. The Indian gentleman who was his best friend and business partner started to look for Sara and eventually finds her in the boarding school. And he became Sara's guardian/parent.) It's a great movie and the book is also wonderful. One of my favorite childhood books. Highly recommended.
I was today years old when I realized it wasn't magic that brought back his memory. It was the high-pressure situation, his heart, and the smell of the maharaja and the monkey that invaded his personal space as he tried to put it all together. The smells of India❤ the olfactory is stronger than most of us realize!
No, they fill up when he denies her… this was the first movie I can ever recall crying to as a child. Many scenes pull at your heart , but this one clutches it.
She’s SO good in this movie, one of the best child actors. Her reaction to losing her entire life (her parents, home, friends, etc) seemingly overnight is gut wrenching. I love this story and the ending ❤

I know it's heartbreaking but also, man, that old lady's eyes shaking like that, along with her unsure yet drawled-out words "this child has no father." And you can see in her eyes the subtle anxiety of getting busted. She was definitely praying deep inside that the father wouldn't remember the kid. Great acting!
The earlier Shirley Temple adaptation of this film was enjoyable, however, this version adheres more faithfully to the source material, and in my opinion, surpasses its predecessor. Even at the age of 53, The Little Princess remains one of my most cherished literary works. I must have read it no less than ten times during my youth. This book, along with A Wrinkle in Time, holds a special place in my heart as one of my all-time favorites.
@SJChronykSpookyBae Indeed! I share your fondness for 'The Secret Garden.' Shirley Temple graced that film as well, albeit during the 1940s, if my memory serves me correctly. There have been several contemporary adaptations of the movie since then. However, I must admit that the most recent one disappointed me due to its incorporation of magic in the secret garden. The essence of the original story lies in the transformative power of love, friendship, nature's restorative qualities, and the profound experience of finding one's family and healing emotional wounds. I vividly recall Mary and Dikon's efforts to revitalize the garden, their adventures in the marsh, and their success in teaching Colin to walk. Your mention of these cherished moments has rekindled my own memories of this precious book. As a child, I found solace in books during times of loneliness, and 'The Secret Garden' held a special place in my collection, alongside the 'Little House on the Prairie' series.
there is another version much more faithful to the books. In the books the reason for his money lost is an investment with a friend in diamond mines that end up being bad, overcome with grief the father dies leaving Sara with nothing in the school. Like this movie she is taken in and made into a servant but only because the lawyer that was her fathers tells the headmistress that should she not then it would look bad for her school. The man who was her fathers friend turns out the mines did have diamonds making him very wealthy and he moves in next door in attempts to try and find Sara Crewe, not knowing the whole time she is next door. Across the road lives his lawyer which is why he moves into that house. Like this movie he does have an Indian servant and she did grow up in India, he assumes that Sara had gone to school in France because her mother was French. Towards the end he does pity the girl and decides to do nice things for her, providing clothes and stuff. This leads the headmistress to assume she must have a rich uncle or something that will look to provide for her and therefore removes her from servant duties and puts her back in classes. Important to note, like this woman in this movie never once does she see any error in her actions or treatment of Sara. Her fathers friend also did buy all of her fathers things in the attempt to return them all to Sara when he finds her as well as her rightful 50% share of the diamond mines. The pet monkey he and the Indian servant has sneaks over next door and into Sara's attic room. She take takes the monkey back across to his house and the Indian servant insists that she meets his Master. Important to also note because of guilt he has been in declining health, vowing only finding the girl will make him better. As they speak it clicks she might be who he is looking for due to her being familiar with Indian culture and recognizing some things that had been in her fathers home. The headmistress comes across to collect Sara upon hearing she went there, claiming Sara is a charity case to save face. Sara then reveals her poor treatment and the man reveals who is and that this whole time she was mistreating who is quite possibly the richest girl whoever came into her school. Lots of other great moments but honestly an enjoyable watch. It's a multipart sort of TV movie style format.

That motif is used in so many of Sara’s flashbacks and memories of her father and all of the good things in her life, and when all hope is lost and then the motif returns right as he remembers her…. I hated the old lady, too. She mistreated the helpless child and did not take on her responsibility of a caretaker. I really hated those who bully the vulnerable.
She didn’t want Sarah’s father to recognize her because she was afraid the father would find out how badly she treated his daughter when she thought he had died in the war and she could lose her job for the abuse that she did to his daughter. She practically made her a slave to the other rich girls in the school. Made her live in the attic with a little black girl of whom Sarah became very good friends with. Have watched this on cable tv. Indeed the most heart wrenching scenes. You can see the kindness of her dad, even in the moment he didn't recognize her, he still feel the pain of the young girl screaming. It's not a big movie but still one of that good movie giving me so much inspirations.

In case anyone is interested, the author of A Little Princess also wrote The Secret Garden. These were two of my favorite books when I was a preteen, but they are timeless. Both books are sort of riches to rags to riches stories with a really sad, dark middle section that grabs your heart!
They were both favourites of mine when I was a child, and I revisited them a few times through the years. Not recently however. I think that they're due a fresh visit. I'll have to dig them out again.
As a kid born in 90's we grew up watching the animated Princess Sara series in my country 🇵🇭 they even made a movie adaptation of this. This is very popular back then as well as the Prince Cedie
There's a very old version with shirley temple. Pretty good. But there's also one that was done on P.B.S about maybe twenty years ago. Absolutely. Perfect. I love this story. Man I’ve been watching this since it came out in the 90s. It’s comfort food for me so I watch it along side a several other old movies on rotation probably a few times a year. I’ve still got the VHS I got for my birthday that year and everything ❤

I cried so much the first time I watched this movie as a kid 😢! Still of my favorite ones even now. But, I never knew the name! So happy I stumbled unto this reel.
This movie was my childhood and now… having lost my father to Covid- I recognize those screams personally. This movie shaped me as a kid. I’m glad to see new audiences watch it.
This made me feel old. I still have the book that accompanied the film and upon checking I discovered it was released in 1995. Edited to add: I mean the book edition that has a picture from the film as its cover. I kept it as it has a note from my dad inside for a good school report. I am very aware that Frances Hodgson Burnett published her books in the late Victorian and Edwardian era. The Secret Garden is one of my all time favourite children stories. There's a reason they are called classics.
I last hugged my dad, 12/26/2021 and we took him off life support 01/22/2024, after a stroke. The scene didn’t make me cry, but seeing your comment has me bawling. I miss my dad so much. I hope you well and good memories. I’m sorry for your loss.
Same. 💔😔 I was 6 months pregnant, with my only child when my dad passed away in 06 from leukaemia. Sadly, he only had several months left to live and never got to meet his grandson, my I tributed his name to my son in memory and to keep him close , so in some way, my son has a piece of PopPop with him. I thought that was the best way I could honour my Dad at the time❤. He wasnt concious when i arrived at the hospital but i know he knew i was right there by his side as I held his hand til the very end. I was 17, and it was one of the most gut-wrenching, heartbreaking situations. My dad was my best mate. No secrets, no dramas, my biggest supporter, so, naturally, he was the first person I was excited and nervous to tell, but he was over the moon for me. He was my adoptive father, but he truly was my dad, it's takes a true kind of spirit to take care, genuinely love, and have the best interests in mind for a child that isnt their own flesh and blood. He always made sure I felt apart of the family.. and I'll forever be grateful for that man, how he taught and raised me, loved and encouraged me to be myself, always. I just wish we had more time together in the realm. But I know I will see his soul again.. 💞 sending you all love and positive energy. Me alegro que esté disponible ahora en plataformas streaming.
Cual es el nombre de lanpelicula y el libro?
Have watched this on cable tv. Indeed the most heart wrenching scenes. You can see the kindness of her dad, even in the moment he didn't recognize her, he still feel the pain of the young girl screaming. It's not a big movie but still one of that good movie giving me so much inspirations.
I saw the Shirley temple version growing up and it made so sad how they treated her but the end was so lovely
Yes! I used to love Shirley Temple films so much when I was little!
@@vanessahammick2770yess my Grammy bought me the whole movie collection the one they use to sell on tv and I spent a whole year rewatching
Love the Shirley Temple version! So good!
Same grew up on Shirley Temple movies
Ohh my godd !!! This unlocked a core memory ... I watched this movie when I was a kid .. Being seperated from my father was a nightmare for me .. This movie unlocked a new fear back then
I watched this movie once when I was kid. Ever since that time I have been trying to remember anything about it that could help me find it again, but the memory was just too vague...
I am so glad to have finally found it again😊
Thanks youtube, for bringing it to me!
Ok, what is it?
@@kathypelot2187 A Little Princess from 1995
There is an older version of it with Shirly Temple as the daughter.
Omg this scene always gives me the chills, like the energy of angel reminding you of its presence
I remember this movie as a kid, I loved this movie! It's funny how just the other day, maybe like a week or so ago, this movie popped into my head and I felt nostalgic and in the mood to rewatch it soon.
I absolutely LOVED this movie when I was younger. What a nostalgic feeling this short gave me ❤
My mom used to watch this movie with me all the time when I was young. We always had a good cry watching this.
I was just thinking about this movie the other day.
@@bobbi3254 this scene is one of the scenes that my sisters and i used to cry at. I shared this short to her the other day and she sent me a crying emoji back and said "gets me every time"....even at 34, it had made her cry
It is a remake of a 1939 Shirley Temple film
I thought so ,thanks for reassuring me@@dianneschuman6328
My kids enjoy it😊
In case anyone is interested, the author of A Little Princess also wrote The Secret Garden. These were two of my favorite books when I was a preteen, but they are timeless. Both books are sort of riches to rags to riches stories with a really sad, dark middle section that grabs your heart!
I absolutely LOVE The Secret Garden ❤
I did not know that omfgggggggg
They were both favourites of mine when I was a child, and I revisited them a few times through the years. Not recently however. I think that they're due a fresh visit. I'll have to dig them out again.
@@pennyaccleton6227 same here 😢❤😢
I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE SIMILAR IN ODD WAYS. Now it makes sense
I love this movie. I used to watch it all the time with my daughter. The scene where he remembers her and she runs to him makes me cry every time.
I think i've seen every version of it. Like little women it's an absolute classic. I can watch those stories over and over again.
What is Prince Cedie.
@@scribe56 it's based from a japanese anime Little Lord Fauntleroy but in 🇵🇭 the title is Cedie Ang munting prinsipe( little prince Cedie in English) very popular animated series in the 90's in my country same with Princess Sara.
no need to peel any more potatoes
This scene broke my heart, heavens!!! Such a good movie though. Definitely a childhood favorite.
This movie along with the secret garden were my fav as a child and I still live them today and watch them often. I have it of course.❤
@renatalosada I got both those movies in a box set and watched them with my daughter. I loved them both but liked A Little Princess a little bit more.
Ugh the scene in Hope Floats is way more heart wrenching when the little girl is running after her dad’s car screaming “take me with you”. I cry every time. 😢
Man I’ve been watching this since it came out in the 90s. It’s comfort food for me so I watch it along side a several other old movies on rotation probably a few times a year. I’ve still got the VHS I got for my birthday that year and everything ❤
I've been watching it since Shirley Temple played Sarah
My friends mom let us rent this every weekend for like 6 months when i was a kid, eventually she just bought the movie and we watched it constantly. Miss minchin shouldve went to jail for lieng wen she saw her father
A Little Princess...loved this🥰
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Heart breaking. I've seen all 3 versions. Event the Shirley Temple one.
I cried so much the first time I watched this movie as a kid 😢! Still of my favorite ones even now. But, I never knew the name! So happy I stumbled unto this reel.
One of our favorite childhood movies! With your heart kindle my heart!!
This movie was my childhood and now… having lost my father to Covid- I recognize those screams personally. This movie shaped me as a kid. I’m glad to see new audiences watch it.
I realise now why I loved Ser Davos in GoT so much
Yoooooooo! I honestly don't think I would've EVER caught that had I not seen this comment!
OMGGGG
One of the best movies EVER❤ watched it over a million times and still cry like a baby every time I watch it
This made me feel old.
No, old is when you remember the original Shirley Temple version. And when you know the book was originally published in the early 1900’s. 😉
Darlings, this book was released in 1905. It was a book LONG, LONG before it was a film.
I have a fedora pin my uncle gave me when we went to see. Pygmalion
Right there with you! @@boomeracres4813
This movie had you go through a roller coaster of emotions. It's such a wonderful story. Hated the head mistress.
The acting in this movie was everything!! 😭❤
God I've never seen the movie but this scene alone is heart wrenching and moving goosebumps
What I wouldn’t give for 1 more hug from Dad.
I last hugged my dad, 12/26/2021 and we took him off life support 01/22/2024, after a stroke. The scene didn’t make me cry, but seeing your comment has me bawling. I miss my dad so much. I hope you well and good memories. I’m sorry for your loss.
Its been almost 20 years since my dad passed... 💔
Me too! My dad has been gone 42 years now. I was 19 when he passed and I still needed him so bad. I still think of him and miss him everyday.
And they're watching over us!

my favorite movie all time it use stay on HBO IN 90'S:)
I cried so much when I saw it as a child...
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a child. Such a tear-jerker though!
I grew up watching the cartoon version of this titled as Princess Sarah. it was called "Sarah: and mounting prinsesa" since it was a Filipino dubbed
Same in France " princesses sara"
I also used to watch the anime version of this. Sara was so kind! My six year old self should've taken some notes 😭
This movie fvcked me up so bad as a kid. This kid's acting was on point.
This might be one of the first movies I can remember shedding a tear to ❤
This reminds me of movie similar too what late child actress Mrs.Shirley Temple Black starred in.😊
I was so in love with The Little Princess (book) as a little girl that I read it multiple times. Its heartbreaking and heartwarming and its just a lot of emotions. I never knew there was a movie!
It was a favorite along with The Secret Garden (same author).
Omg this was one of my favorite movies growing up ❤😢 Those poor girls broke my heart. Such a good movie❤❤
This is one of my favorite movies I just love the acting.❤
So touching almost made a black man passing through economic hardship in Nigeria cry😢🇳🇬❣️
Wat?
He says he is a Nigerian black man and going through financial difficulty, and this film had him almost in tears.
This Scene gives me goosebumps when he took her name sara...❤❤❤❤
I remember watching this as a child. Thank you for reminding me
There's a really old cartoon adaptation of this. It's such a big hit in my country that they made a love action adaptation.
I like the one with Shirley Temple
One of my favorite movies❤
Every version of this movie is unique
Oh I loved the Shirley Temple one. We had to watch It every year. I think it was thanksgiving or christmas
What they have done to the little princess 😮
I watched this movie numerous times with my daughters and it gets us every time. ❤
Underrated movie.
This movie has also a Filipino adaptation entitled "Sarah, ang munting prinsesa" (Sara, the little princess). It has cartoon series, too.
No little girl should live without her father😢...may all kidz always have their parents❤❤❤😢
Watched this film years ago and I still remember the emotions it made me feel when watching the attic scenes, esp. Sara’s confrontation with Ms. Minchin and when she crossed a wood panel to get to the neighbor’s tower.
Where's the paragraph guy?
@@_ukimira It wasn't there when I commented
I love this movie so much❤ It's been making me cry since childhood😢
An actual father would never ever watch this happen
He lost his memory

I haven’t seen this remake but grew up watching and loving the original Little Princess with Shirley Temple! Now I want to find this one to watch!
This was one of the first books i have ever read, my English teacher gave it to to better my English (not my first language), i still have it and i cherish it❤
This is probably my favorite movie of all time. It's an absolute classic that will never be duplicated.
My all time favorite movie as a kid and still is, it made me cry all the time and now that I don’t have my father RIP Papi, it gravitates more as one day seeing him and hugging him one more time 😭❤
Daaaaamn and I thought I was the only one who cry the sh*t out of myself every single time I see that scene!!!!
