Dr. Mike is the most engaging hypertrophy expert.
I think its bc of his lambos, its been proven a direct relation between lambos and engage on a peer review doble blind placebo control paper.

Paul Carter is also great but he aint engaged that much.
I'm extremely skeptical of personal trainers most don't know much but Dr. Mike is one person that I highly respect for his knowledge. Mike has literally help get my fitness to the next level. He is also funny af.
He was a personal trainer for about a year, and that was after he finished his masters program. After personal training for a year or so he began his PHD to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts of hypertrophy and sport science generally.
@@jaijaiwanted He's a personal trainer in the same way if the guys who make hypersonic missiles decided to get into the fireworks game.
yo where the hell is this interview i love mike

@@kylefernandes5003 Dr. Mike will also come out monday
This just makes me so happy to Dr Mike getting the popularity and notoriety he has earned. The man has been pumping and dumping knowledge into the very polluted fitness landscape bringing scientific backed information to plebs like me. The best source of info I can recommend for anyone at any point in their fitness journey.
You've evidently not discovered basement bodybuilding, bald omniman, Alex Leonidas, natural hypertrophy, atlas powershrugged, Sam Shethar or Alexander Bromley. All provide much more practically applicable advice than Mike does, particularly for natural lifters. He's a great source of info, but not even remotely the best.
@@alihasanaxe4936 thats your opinion
@alihasanaxe4936 Half of those you mentioned are not even close to Mike. One Leonidas clearly knows his place on the videos he's trained with Mike and humbles himself. The other half I don't know
@@EE-kt8shBro just doesnt have the attention span to watch a 30 minute, science backed video on hypertrophy.
@@solereeper3955 to be fair, most of Natural Hypertrophy's videos are very long format, 1h+ a lot of the time and he uses basic hypertrophy principles that are shared by Dr.Mike.
I am just delighted that we got Dr Mike on a pod with Modern Wisdom!
Dr Mike is hilarious and really knows his shit. Been long term listener of his stuff. Super glad to see this collab!
Can't wait for the whole episode!
Naturally the first clip on the interview doesnt disappoint
it's almost freaky how much Mike have influenced my workouts. I have more than half of this stuff in my routines and I didn't know he actually invented the super rom. I just thought it was something people do when I saw him do it. It's like finding out that your dad actually works at Nintendo.
Oh yah, any workout I do originated from either Dr Mike, or John Meadows.
They were before dr.mike, They're called Lu raises but even Lu didn't invent them.
Dr Mike and his team (Renaissance Periodization) are blowing up recently. About f@cking time.
S tier content, the best you can find online. And it's not even close.
To build muscle: 1) be consistent 2) Eat to grow 3)Find the exercises that work best for you.
There is no "secret" exercise to build muscle. Your body only responds to the weight being lifted. Whether it is a barbell curl or a dumbbell curl, your body doesn't know the difference except that you are engaging the biceps and stimulating it. That is it.
All of these scientists, trainers, gurus, etc., are full of it.
Dr. Mike is my favorite go-to for Fitness advice, just because he's hilarious and openly admits he'd do the deed with Henry Cavil (just like the rest of us).
I'm not like gae or anything, but that Man is absolutely gorgeous. 🤷🏻♂️
Check out Pete Holmes talking about Ryan Gosling 😅

1. Kb swings
2. Turkish getups
3. Suitcase carries
4. Weighted deficit nordics
5. Reverse hypers
6. Pull-ups (whatever grip)
7. Dips

9. Reverse squats
10. Hang power clean
What is a reverse squat?
@@jmzan cable pulls with ankle straps lying down holding something behind you. look it up my friend
In conclusion
Push up, Pull up, Squats plus some variation of those will hit every thing. Calisthenics is the king
Dr mike is an absolute legend. What's so good about him is his self awareness and ability to check his own ego. A true scientist starts to realise the nature of intelligence. Almost like reverse dunning kruger. The more you know the less certain you become about a lot of things. More diplomatic less dogmatic.
Obviously he's the most likable guy on TH-cam too
Nah, it's not "reverse" Dunning-Kruger. People just love to completely forget that *that* is the other extreme of the same effect: highly efficient people doubt their own abilities because they have so much awareness that they can see improvements (i.e. faults) others can't or won't.
@@WorldsUnhealthiestFitPerson just what I waa thinking. Dunning-Kruger effect TLDR would be something like. "dumb people think they are smart and smart people think they are dumb."
I can never understand why people build themselves to the point that they lose mobility and tighten themselves.
amen. why would you sacrifice basic ability like wiping your ass, covering a sneeze, etc. to be that bulky. like 95% of the broads i've met don't like bulky dudes like that
Your body normally has a limit on the amount of muscle you can build in order to retain some flexibility, people who loses that mobility are most likely taking some anabolic steroids
For the manhood
I don’t watch him so much for fitness advice but to see him bashing celebrities’ workout routines. 😂
Dr Mike is legit just a breath of fresh air
This is exactly what I started a couple weeks ago and I wondered if it was a good idea. By tapering down the weight for each set I was able to keep my reps between 10-15 and go 4-6 sets. I felt like I was getting a much better pump in my muscles.
Closing in on 50 it has definitely been better on my joints than lifting heavy constantly in an effort to strength train.
At this point I just want to build muscle, look healthy, and for my joints not to hurt or my body to be so wore out I’m useless for the rest of the day.
Thanks Dr Mike! You have been one of the most valuable resources in my journey back into fitness.
Dr. Mike always goes 5 deep.
I was shocked Dr. Mike didn’t make a joke about that
So happy his first choice was a squat.Such a must exercise for everyone. The exercises he listed are all superior and the only 1 that I am absolutely stuck on is pull-ups.I wanna get to where I can do at LEAST 10?Anyone have tips on pull-ups for a 63 year old female?😫SO hard.
easily the best 10 exercise video on this show, what a legend , lol
Dr. Mike is literally the epitome of a spirit animal 😆

High Bar Squat, RDL, Bench, Bent Over Row, Overhead press, Dumbell Pullover, Pull-ups, Dips, Lu Raise, Lunges.

What exercises do you do to get your head so muscular?

Cris is staking it on , putting in the work , check out those forearms , well done
So excited for the whole interview
I have a feeling the naming everything DR. Mike going to take off.
This is just for hypertrophy, not necessarily for strength or performance
I wish there were some visuals to show what workouts they’re talking about.
Shout out to Dr. Mike !
For me
Hammer grip pull ups
Seated row
Incline dbs press
Dip station
Squats
Bb military press standing
Trap bar dead’s
Dbs Side Lat raises
Ez bar curls
Db shugs and farm walks with weighted vest
for me, hammer time pants. seated tv watching, dbag punches, dips and chips, spaghetti squash, no more military, trap life, ez cheese and crackers, walking with no weight. cheers from sofa...
The chick in the club impression has me crying, the voice is so good
In other video he said overhead press was a C class exercise for not involving side delts, and deadlifts very bad for hypertrophy 🙃
Just casually mentions that his arms are too big to do a barbell back squat haha. What a beastttt!
Inclined bench makes the list again
Dr Mike for president
Dr Mike everything 😆 blokes a gem!
Dr. Mike is the 🐐!!
I just bought the Neutonic drink on Amazon. I'm a sucker, yes.
Dr. Mike and Ryan Humiston need a collab ASAP.
I don't want to become like this guy. I"m 48y old, I agree with some of the lifts but I want to focus more on mobility and stability. I like cleans, snatches, Turkish get ups to be included..
Do what he does. Full ROM, perfect technique. You’ll thank me in 30-40 years.
If he were smaller he would be super flexible and mobile. The type of training he praises is SUPER effective for muscle growth AND mobility. He just became too jacked, literally his muscles are obstructing his movement. Unless you get to weight 120kg at 170cm you are fine.
you wouldn't become like this guy even if you did the same thing
Dont worry you will not
There’s a difference between size and strength. Size has more to do with what and how much you eat. You can be stronger without getting much bigger. Gymnasts are super strong but tiny.
I have a huge amount of respect for Israetel's knowledge and ability to convey information. With that said, he's not nearly as funny as he seems to think he is.
Interesting list of exercises that all revolve around fixed hand positions. This wouldn't work for my crappy joints and wouldn't work for a lot of older folks who are a part of the general population. There's great benefit from DBs, cables and machines for those who can't deal with the stress that the barbells puts on your joints
finally, a comment on the actual substance rather than 'dr mike is really cool!' I was wondering about the lack of abs and legs in the video. is it because he doesn't like those or because most of the time, our legs aren't showing ? i got chicken legs. need to pump them up
Instant liked video for Mike!!
Dr. Mike’s getting really big! 📈 (no fitness pun intended)
The natural lightning I suppose, set-up, camera, personality of the host but also information provided in this manner? The interviewer world-class, of course.
I love it guys.
FUCKING good Job!
Standing overhead press caught me off guard. I love it, I know Mike loves it for strenght but he doesn't consider it that good for hypertrophy.
Low Bar Squat, Romanian Deadlift, Behind-the-Neck Press, Weighted Push Ups with Parallel Bars, Pull Ups, Face Pulls, Nordics, Reverse Nordics, Katana Extensions, Cable Curls for me.
I do every single one of these exercises in my workouts
You could literally just do pushups and get jacked af 😂
@@Monkehrawrrrnot “af”
I think most of us do. This is not difficult for inclusion criteria but exclusion.
The similarity in these lists are really telling if people don't know where to start 👊
I'd go:
Horizontal pull
Horizontal push
Vertical pull
Vertical push
A squat type of movement/leg press
Lunges/Bulgarians
Deadlifts/RackPulls
Bicep curls (Machine/dumbbell/barbell... doesn't matter)
Tricep pushdowns/extensions on a cable
Lateral raises
Don't ever need anything else except for maybe a core movement and calf raises.
😂😂 loved it! Dr. Mike talented, tested, and funny!
Those head gains are real.
I cant wait for this pod!! It's gooing to be epic
RELEASE THE POD
I love Mike
What 3 would be interesting...
Dr Mike be looking like Orochi Doppo in this video
Weights work, but special sauce helps !
I love these. You have awesome guests.
It’s kind of crazy to me that a fitness expert could let himself get so “disabled” as he puts it when it comes to range of motion. That being said, dude is jacked af!
I don't know who this dude is but I will after today!
Dr Mike needs to cut a cheque to Lu Xiao Jun
Standing OH BB or DB press is not the most effective for your shoulders; but has the added benefit of being really good for your core. I hate sitting and pressing, it just feels super un-functional. Not a fan of anything seated, or chest supported, unless you’re nursing injuries or just warming up.
Seated offers more stability so it’s great for training the muscle you want plus it’s less fatiguing. How is standing more functional? Being able to press a shit load of weight while seated will still carry over to day to day activities.
Where is the full podcast?
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
"And you can't...- well I guess you could overhead press your friend and throw him away..."
Truly the god of fitness advice.
Chris you've asked this 10 exercise question to quite a number of people. I don't think anyone had a iso bicep exercise in their 10. Maybe Bumstead did I don't remember. Just interesting most common gym bros love bicep but these pros don't have it in the short list of best exercises
Because the bicep isn't an important muscle.
@@mr.jameson218or it gets work secondarily on back day etc. I guess like Mike said here, if we're putting this fake limit of only 10 exercises, biceps don't make it on the list. Just interesting to me
When is the full episode released?
I like how Mike has determined that spamming "exercise scientist" in video titles is effective and had Chris use that tip.
They don’t ship to UK 🇬🇧?
My boyfriend is finally on the pod. Bloods flowing rn
Does anyone know where to watch full video of this podcast, I can't seem to find on this channel
why didn't you add supporting pictures?!!!!!
You only need one:
Brain. All you gotta do is wire yourself to be consistent with your lifting, proper diet and proper sleep.
The resto will follow.
True
Got a question, I think it's a good one. So around 18 month's ago I had a thoracic tumour removed, it was a thymoma had grown into the organ visceral fat. (I was 9.5 kilo lighter after) So it would seem after my metabolism is now crazy fast. I've had scans and x-rays to be sure nothing else is growing. I am prescribed Test as I also have a prolactin secrecting non cancerous tumor on my hyperthalmos. What do you think I've discussed it with a few specialists. Could it be I've gone from a fatty to a slow gainer?
💥💥💥 Bro if you cannot do any one exercise because of too much muscle mass, you really need to work on your flexibility. You can do it, it's a choice
Flexibility won't really fix the problem of mass getting in the way of mass.
You dont expect a guy who looks like this to be well informed and fucking funny 😂
I like his angle on fitness
If I could move Dr Mike himself to different directions for reps and sets I would get jacked easily.
What a treat! my favorite fitness expert
