I’ve owned 2 XJR6s and an XJR8….if you change out the upper and lower supercharger pulleys, the front Intercooler radiator, larger water pump and intake - you got an amazing car. Also, make sure you change the tensioners and look out for the Nikisil linings. I’m into the Bentley Turbo R’s now but these X308s are amazing…but people, don’t cheap out on the maintenance…maintain it the right way. The Jag-u-ars after this body style really went down hill. These were low slung beauties….the new ones were fugly…yes, fugly.
As a former owner of three of the great X308 series, I’m in agreement that if you swap out all plastic components related to the timing gear and water pump. Also a caution about the “sealed for life” transmission. After 80k miles I needs a total cleaning out.
I own an XJR100 for 2 years. To me the best modern XJ ever made. Perfect balance between Presence and style. No overdesign. Juste sleek design. Engine is bulletproof if well cared. Thanks for your nice vid ! Greeting from France
A beautiful car as was the earlier X300 XJR......with more purposeful looking alloys imo......either one has the looks of arguably the best looking 4 door cars ever.......that bonnet view behind the wheel is a beaut
In 2011/2012 I bought an XKR 100 and as I was so positively surprised, especially about the engine, I bought also the XJR 100 as back then, the first owners (almost) all sold them and I could select in between 3 at that time at a radius of only 150 miles. The car is fabulous!
Great video! I gave up looking for a good XJR when I was lucky enough to find an XKR 400. 100 made to celebrate 400bhp, with the same wheels in 20 inch.
I worked as a Jaguar salesman when this XJR was new. What is not apparent from your video is that when new the real wood veneer was stained a lovely light grey to compliment the warm charcoal leather. However, over time the grey stain fades and goes either a light brown like the example here or a horrible light green. This really spoils the look of the interior and personally would put me off buying one.
Interesting! It's not something I can say bothers me or indeed I had noticed. It's almost identical to the wood in my later X350. I guess if it's a deal breaker, you could always have it re-done at a specialist to bring it back to factory fresh.
@@fuelupclassic I spent two years trying to find an XJR, so I settled for XJ8s. Just by pure chance I saw a black on black XJR on eBay going for bids. I messaged the seller directly to skip the online war and game them an offer. I got exceptionally lucky with it. It does have a coolant leak which I've booked the car in to fix. I'm planning to move out and keep this car on the side because it's a gem. People won't understand what you feel when driving one. Yes, it's a head turner but you're sitting in literal history.
...yes, it does have something of the night about it - thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable review ! Interestingly, I'd like to get my hands on a nice mk1 TT V6 (hopefully not too many miles...) and have started actively looking so will await with interest for the review.
I drive my x308XJR daily, and I allmost feel embarrased for all attention the car attract - probably even more today than when it was fairly new - it's low sleek lines and beautiful proportions stand in contrast to the lot of new cars -
@@tylerhamilton-nz8qs Yeah instead of realising or understanding that it was there to try and steal 3 series sales. When they brought out the new XJ it didn't have any cat DNA at all. 🙀 Tbh in my opinion the XE, XF and XJ should all have Ford badges, they would look great as cortina/sierra and Granada replacements. Nothing about them says Jaaaaag!
The XJR is a lovely thing......I don't think I could pay 100% more just for the "100" though......there just aren't enough differences for me. I had a friend who had a similar vintage XKR Silverstone convertible back when it was new. A lovely way to waft around.
They certainly command a premium but I guess that's inevitable with so few made and these now becoming somewhat of a collectors item. They really did chuck all the options at the XJR 100 and it does benefit from the big brake upgrade too, which is an area I always found slightly lacking in a 'normal' X308 XJR.
@@fuelupclassic The late XJRs were quite well spec'ed as standard. The R1 brembo brake package was an option on the late XJR. The 100 certainly didn't have all the options selected, which was a shame. But if you like a black car, it is certainly worth looking at.
There are also a handful of XJR equipped with the "R1 package" at a lower price than the XJR 100. The package includes Brembo brakes, stiffer anti roll bars and most of the time 18" BBS Milan wheels. On top of that, the 100 offers the red stitching, a thicker sports steering wheel and heated rear seats.
I still have my project 1996 MGB GT, which is waiting to have some restoration work and an overdrive gearbox fitted. Recently I have purchased a factory original MGB GT V8, which I really enjoy.
Wow! That's the ultimate incarnation of X350 XJ you've got there. I'd love to feature it on the channel. Thank you very much for watching and subscribing. Matt
The lacquer of the veneer has a tendency to turn green if left exposed to UV (sun)light. Originally, the veneer (birdseye maple) has a grey tint which looks super with the charcoal interior. (in my view ...).

11:30 I was a lot attendant at 17 when this car was on the lots new. This and the S8 were my absolute favorite at the Porsche Jag Audi, we had AMG's and M cars come in but the XJR and S8... mmm yea even over the 911 or anything Porsche had. Oh yea on the breaking traction. Yea i almost killed myself in a joy ride in one of these. Not respecting the power i stabbed the throttle in a turn and almost took myself out in a wall coming inches of impact. Idiot.
I think the X300/308 is the best looking four door saloon ever made. Like your videos Matt.
Thank you very much for watching.

Great to hear from XJR 100 owners and glad you're enjoying the car.

Very enjoyable video. It wouldn't take much to convince me to buy an old Jag, but I'll be opening Autotrader after this video 😂.
Thank you for watching and good luck with your search! :)
Jaguars are my idols. All of them. I have never seen one that I thought was ugly.
They've made some lovely looking and driving cars over the years.
Great video as always. There’s a tidy one for sale here in Canada for $45,000 CDN. Just 37,000 km. Very nice ❤ Very tempting 😊
Wait what? Where in Canada? I’ve been looking for one off and on without success 😢
Thank you.
Ohh that certainly sounds very tempting, especially with so few miles!
Just discovered this wonderful channel, thanks for all your hard work and keep those Jag features coming please!
Thank you very much! Plenty more videos on the way.
I feel that the Jaguar XJR 100 is a perfect sedan. It's the superlative car when I would like to refresh after a long day at work. Thank you🙏
Absolutely! Nothing can comfort and charm you like an old Jag.

The lacquer went milky on a certain large batch/period. Managed to get mine reworked under warranty
I own the exact same car and spec, minus the XJR100 badge. Black on black, Montreal wheels, and the best of all, imported from Japan!
Wonderful! There's something so lovely about a black on black XJR.

I've got the XJR X308 fully loaded inside as well, and I love it, ... Getting about 18mpg ''ouch'' lol

Great video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it.
When Jags looked like Jaaaaags and weren't confused with a rep mobiles. Everyone knew what a Jaaaag looked like.
Personally I think the Jag XJ remained a great looking car throughout. It's rather sad Jaguar killed it off in 2019.
Only annoying thing for me in 2001 Joe public assumed when the compact X-Type was launched, that it was brought out to replace the Xj8 lol

large and compact at the same time time. 16 ft 3 /196 inches long, 5 ft 10 /70 inches wide!

They really suit the big Jags so well. Occasionally a set comes up for sale but they're never cheap!

Average 15 mpg! Had a XJR306 and an XJR308 but never suffered an average figure as bad as that!!
More like 17.6 even when flooring it. Quite good on fuel!
Perhaps I was enjoying that Supercharger a little too much! :)
