    "Battery" actually started my metal Renaissance. Had a bit of a falling out with the metal I was listening to, and "Battery" threw me back in. Had a great time since.

    14:20 Master of Puppets is actually about drug addiction and specifically addiction to cocaine and heroin. The lyrics are pretty explicit, I mean... "Veins that pump with fear", "Taste me, you will see / More is all you need / Dedicated to / How I'm killing you", "Needlework the way", "Chop your breakfast on a mirror", "I will occupy / I will help you die / I will run through you / Now I rule you too". The song is written from the perspective of the drug itself, being the eponymous Master of Puppets "pulling the strings" of the addicted.
    18:50 The Thing That Should Not be is the title of a novella by H. P. Lovecraft which inspired the song.

  • @FreeMTrider
    @FreeMTrider ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Generational music tastes kind of fuck up everything. The record companies control all of that shit. Yes, they even controlled Korn, Deftones, all of that shit. They know the limits of albums sales and the market saturation. Only the very top bands can call their own shots and make albums when they want and how they want. Metallica did this. They can do whatever the hell they want. But the sad thing is, people get sucked into a genre and reject....or try to reject anything before it. Just like the Nu Metal fans did to metal before it. But it just didn't work. Bands like Metallica came from the underground and stayed there for years....earning it in the clubs and word of mouth, not some video. That's been lost in music. Maybe it's coming back? Because there are no real record companies promoting music like it was.
    The reason why us very old Metallica fans, fans from the club days, still love them is because they were just like us......from the lower class, no money, into skateboards, never cared what the fashion trend was and they hit it hard. We could relate. I don't know your background, but you just can't relate to the old days if you weren't part of it or grew up with nothing. They did it from the ground up living in a fucking van. We had to sneak into clubs for fucks sake.

    Master of Puppets song is about drugs. It is supposed to sound chaotic at times. The drug is the master. The melodic part is the high you get from the drug and the chaotic parts are the drug messing with you. This album came out in 1986 not 1989. Kill Em All is the most Thrash sounding in IMO.

    Ok dude so we need to have a conversation. I watched most of your Ride the Lightning reaction and half of this reaction. Im a life long fan of Metallica and Im not going to shit on your reactions. I am also a big fan of death metal. I think that you should be commended on having the balls to do a reaction to one of the best albums ever(and thats across all genres of music, its in the National Archives for art and music for a reason). I also think your honesty(about what you can understand at least)is a good trait to have when you walk into something with a negative perception when so many others find hearing Master of Puppets a very positive experience.
    There are a few things that would help digesting your reviews in the future....
    1) It wouldnt hurt to save your thoughts until the end of the song. Or at very least pause, share with the class, then continue. You are missing 45% of the music.
    2) In context saying things like Metallica sounds like Limp Biscuit is historically incorrect. Limp Biscuit sounds like Metallica would be the correct way to say something in this context.
    3) Is probably the biggest thing that is not good with your reviews of Metallica, your attempts at making yourself sound like you know what you're talking about in a musical sense fails in the most infuriating way. You threw in the word triplets a lot in the Ride the Lightning reaction and a couple times here, but sections with triplets you didnt mention at all. That note! You get a sudden excitement over a note....that was repeated 4-5bars ago. Nothing in those sections changed. Calling 4/4 time isnt 80s....its been the "standard" time signature since cavemen picked up tree branches and banged them on rocks.
    I made it through the whole review of this album and it was not good. I feel like your thoughts on Metallica keep you from having an opened mind about thier music. When i mentioned your honesty, I think I may of spoke to soon. Your critiques of Lars, James, and Kirk is the same thing everybody says about them. So are you really listening to the album for the first time or are you sharing what you have heard or seen what other people have said and tried to apply it to the classical era of Metallica just to be edgy? I'm in no way trying to change your mind about Metallica...your opinion is yours to hold, but your point is mute when your opinions are not really yours.

    you say you don't like instrumentals but in both albums you haven't even listened to 20 words of the lyrics in total ???????? even in the lyric video you ask towards the end: is this about war and politicians, yes you can take it that way but is pretty fucking obvious it's about drugs

    James didn’t develop the vocal quirks that you find annoying until he was trained to do them during the recording sessions of the black album. Bob Rock, who produced the black album, told James that he wanted to hear more “yeah’s”, and that thing wherein he started adding an extra syllable to the end of each word, I.e., ‘Dp my dirty work, scapegoat; do my deeds, for you’re the one who’s shamed-AH.’

      Because the cool kids say Metallica sucks and you're supposed to diss them or you aren't a true metal head. It's pretty comical honestly but unfortunately this isn't that uncommon...alot of the metal elitist Metallica haters aren't familiar with most of their stuff.

      I mean it's kinda stupid to say. I avoided listening to Metallica, and then say you shit on them. How do you shit on something you tried never to listen to. Makes him look dumb.

    I know the song master of puppets have been popularised recently. But it's arguably one of the greatest song and lyric melds ever written. It's the the users drug addiction talking to the user. The melody you don't have much interest in is actually the "high" the user is feeling taking the drug and the come down just after and hell it causes with paranoia when it wears off.listen to the lyrics from Metallica. It's fantastic writing from James. And the album is about drugs war religion
