It's not mentioned in the stats but Hastati get +3 morale due to 3 promotion levels. So their morale is actually 9. And the missile attack being 1 higher than Praetorian Cohort means they get a numerical advantage after missile exchange.
@phamnhat2925 thing about exp is that it doesnt actually do nearly as much as the shown stats would have you believe. While the opposite is true for armor and wep upgrades. The game says 1 exp gives 1atk (and missile atk) 1def skill and 1 morale, and 1 equipment upgrade only gives 1 atk/armor respectively. So a unit with 3 exp should be almost flat out better than one with gold weps/armor right? But its not. Tests show that 3 exp is only about as strong as a bronze wep/armor upgrade in a mirror match. Morale is also barely affected by exp in practice. We dont know why this is, cant find nothin about it in the code

So, yes, with the blessing of RNGesus, maxed hastati CAN on occasion beat even an Urban cohort. That's part of what makes these early TW games so good. That element of randomness, capturing those intangible effects such as momentum, timing, positioning etc really can bring the game alive. Edit: this also really highlights the difference in quality between UC and PC.
Something aint right. How can they beat praetorians so bad when they just get +1 more attack vs +3 more defense??? Perhaps upgrades give +2 instead of 1 and we are looking at 16 attack and 23 defense hastati?? Or some hidden stat at work.
You underestimate the experience. It not only increases those stats you said but also the moral, stamina. Also, defense skill is better for melee fight compared to armor. Lastly, the units with experience also seem to be moving and getting into positions better and smoother. I found it so much more easy to micro experienced units when I do campaign.
I'm surprised to see even one hastati beat the urbans, as they statistically had everything going against them. Very lucky.
Yea, the RNG was going for them there :) Thanks for the comment.

Indeed :D Thanks for the comment.
The Praetorians cannae believe what happened to them! (Scottish accent)
Praetorians got cooked. Unsurprised, considering their lack of morale and stamina.
Pampered Praetorians getting fat in Rome facing battle hardened veterans!
Yea, the Hastati stood quite strong there :) Thanks for the comment.
Thats crazy, whatre those gear upgrades made of, netherite? This game makes no sense but i love it

How are they maxed? They can get to gold chevrons. Also, if I'm not mistaken, in-game you could re-train them in a city that has +4 morale temple.
Thanks for the comment. From MP perspective they are maxed. Ofc, in SP, they could get that +9, and in campaign the morale bonus :)

I was right for once! EXP positively impacts everything in RTW.

Yes you're right. The upgrades count for 2 points, not 1. It's been confirmed.
Imo the weapon and armour upgrades actually do better than stats indicate whereas xp is a bit worse :) Thanks for the comment.

As I said in the poll, Maxed Hastati beat Praetorians 😎
Well predicted :) Thanks for the comment.
How much armor does armor piercing strip away/ignore?
if it is all, then it would make kind of sense together with a bit of RNG vs the Urbans :)
Imo, it halves the armour value :) Thanks for the comment.
Wow. No contest.
Is it possible to get this situation in game? Old units are impossibe to upgrade?
In what world is that Maxed? You ever play this game before?
Thanks for the comment. In MP 3 xp is maxed (this was made in MP). Ofc, in SP 9 xp is maxed :)
Experience maxes out at 9 chevrons. Clickbait nonsense.
This is out of the gate recruitment, not combat hardened 9 chevrons. Regardless, 3 chevrons are good enough to make that much of a difference.
The image shows the bronze chevrons :) Thanks for the comment.
