Most of the time I run 2wd off road until things get messy. As long as you can avoid messy(deep mud, steep climb etc.) 2wd and good tires will do the trick.
Loved the video. It’s 2019 and thinking of getting a ‘17 TRD off road 4x2. Was concerned about the 4x2 but your video made me feel more confident in getting the 4x2. Thanks!
ChanceyKnows I’ve only had 2 moments being off-road wishing I had 4x4 but have taken the truck in snow mud and a lot of trips in bad weather and never wished I had 4x4 I love the truck
My 2013 Tacoma TRD does great on trails, steeps, rocky steeps, and when I get stuck I use my lockers and I'm good. Tires and clearance are #1, and then knowing the limits of your rig. I have a mild 3" lift, KO2's with a wider offset wheel, and its plenty capable. Nice video bro!
My Ranger is 2 wheel drive but it has the 8.8 rear end with a limited slip differential and Toyo Open Country tires . So while I haven't tried any deep Mud , most anything else is no problem . My 2003 is in too good of shape to beat on though . For that I would buy one that's already been beat on .
I had an 86 S-10 pickup with a 2.5L iron duke engine and a 4 speed manual and I did a lot of off roading in that thing, you just have to know how to drive it and read the terrain.
Bassman22 you definitely could find a 4 door but the access cab is still a great great great truck! I love the 6foot bed! And you don’t see a lot of them on the road as much as a 4door
I got the same truck and I do some crazy stuff in it Other day in Cali we had a big rain storm so me and my dad thought it would be a good idea to go to Beaumont to ride dirt bikes ... ended up kinda not really got stuck out in the hills trying to navigate out for 2 hours but ended up making it and my dads 03 Silverado was suck in a deep hole up the the bumper and i had to pull it up a hill for about 100 but that was only one of the times he got stuck lol good times tho
I drive a Ford Escape hybrid, that thing impressed me...I mean the jeep guys literallt ask me how tf I got up to where they are lmao, FWD cvt...yet it works so well, I do have slightly more agreessve tired than he does
@@ThatCrazedGunnerM9130 Cool thanks for letting me know. Your truck did really well and for a majority of truck owners what you went through is realistic. I just had installed Yukon Gear clutch style limited slip in (had a G80 locker before) because it will work better on the street in the rain and in theory take more abuse, we'll see how it does on dirt roads.
I have a 2017 sr5 with big o A/T 265/75r 16's and absolutely love them. Aggressive enough tread for offroad but still calm and quiet enough for the highway. I opted for the 10 ply sidewalls because it was only like $5 bucks more per tire, but idk if that added more weight to the tire because I could definitely feel a difference in acceleration with them on there. Not bad, but noticable. They also make it sit about an inch higher without a lift so that was a plus too
Need some TRD rims for my 2020 SR and if anyone interested in buying my stock steel rims let me know. Also if anyone need a hood swap. I have the basic hood but need a scoop hood. My truck is silver....step bar for access cab needed
so this trail is called Pipe Line Road it goes from Henderson to bolder city. its service road to do patch work on the main gas line that feeds Henderson and power line that feeds las Vegas
Cool! Thanks for those information bro. The reason I found your video because I also got 2wd taco and I’m worried testing it even on light trails. Hope I can join you one of these days.
after the testing ive seen and done on my 3rd gen taco, i dont really think i would buy a 4wd unless i lived in Utah or somewhere other then the west coast haha i have a trip soon to do some trails on the outskirts of Las Vegas. One trail is called (Rainbow Gardens and Lava Butte Loop) its about a 17 mile scenic trail. look it up and keep me inform if you would like to join along.
You need better tires for better results my truck like shocks me when it went up maybe like a hill the size of a 1 story house with 2wd just send it if you wanna get somewhere .. billstein shocks help 👌🏻
Nice I live in Cali so it would be a little trip but worth it!! What size are your tires & rims brand, also do you have a slight lift or is that stock...
A E right now it’s on stock 245/75/16’s with a factory one inch lift. Planning on going to a 285/ 75/16’s or 17 on Method racing wheels in the NV bronze 305 color. What color is your taco?
ThatCrazedGunnerM91/30 I went that size and lost noticable power! If you have the v6 then it's no problem, but the i4 is even more sluggish! Then again I did get ko2s which can put some weight on it
Bassman22 I ended up getting an 03 Ford Ranger 2.3 2wd 5 spd. lol. It’s slow as hell but looking forward to throwing on some 31’s and lifting it! Went this route so I could save up for the next couple of years instead of balling out on the taco.
Starting at 32,000$ I work as a sales man in Texas and these things are pretty rare hahaha. If you really want one the dealership will mostlikey have to special order you one which will take about 4 month to be build and shipped.
Although if you get a trd off road, get the automatic cause if you dont then youll loose the crawl control system and youll still be getting charged the same price which is so dumm.

I bought a 4 wheel drive because I live in utah and the snow can be bad but I still drive 99% of the time in 2 wheel drive
All you need is a winch and you'll never be stuck.
Then you need mud terrain tires.
Zach I. How do you use a Winch to get out of a stuck position? Could you provide further details?
It's good to use your 4wd occasionally in order to keep it lubricated.
I have a 2002 Tacoma pre runner with a locker in it. For what I feel comfortable doing, similar trails to that, my Yota does the trick.

ChanceyKnows I drive a 2019 2wd 4cylinder off-road and handles stuff great as king as you aren’t going on intense jeep trails ofc lol
How is it? I really want a 4x4 off road, specifically for snow, how would a 4x2 sport handle in the anow with all terrain tires??
mine is l 200 2wd triton 2008 which i drive in the toughest roads in Kenya loaded 2.5tons potatoes and it gives the best response

SofaKingStoked !!! What mid travel are you running?
I had a 2w Tacoma 2018 and they do real good I went through some crazy trills but I had to update the the 4x4 Tacoma
MIDNIGHTPLAYERS I definitely won’t trade this one in! But whenever it’s time for a new one I’ll be getting 4x4!

I just got the 2018 access cab super white 2.7l 4x4. Is this a good truck for off road?
PRO TIP: Turn off TC to engage the LSD. It helps A LOT with the 2WD Taco in snow or off-road.

You have an ELSD as well
I didn't catch it in the video, does it have a locker or limited slip?
Yes The truck does have a limited slip diff, i might have said locker on video. thats my bad if i did.

ThatCrazedGunner traction control is all - no locking diff I think but limited slip yes
got the same truck SR/2WD 3 inch lift Eibach leveling kit 20x9's 31 " tires
how does the leaving kit feel on the road and off the road?
good but alittle stiff , comes with really stiff coils drives like a race car on rails on the street, and very good off road.
did it ever fix the taco lean?
2wd with good tires and traction control is the best !!
No, with locking rear differential its the best 2wd
@@RagingBad Locking diffs are the secret to offroading for a 2wd and 4wd
Is that an SR5 or TRD Sport?
I drive a 2wd 4cyl 2019 SR5 factory lift&suspension, I just need decent tires for both highway and offroad for a decent price. Anyone got suggestions?
Ta ko2 best tire ever

I have a 2wd and i live in LA! But, fuck it, time to get the truck dirty. Gonna take it off roading! lol
Is it an SR?
Needs a five speed box for better traction management
What size cylinder is that?
It's ok to think about audio.
I was disappointed that this video had nothing to do with Taco's...
Adindora I’m quite disappointed as well. Damn I wish a had a Taco! Lol
Need some TRD rims for my 2020 SR and if anyone interested in buying my stock steel rims let me know. Also if anyone need a hood swap. I have the basic hood but need a scoop hood. My truck is silver....step bar for access cab needed
Where is this? CA?
Is this a 4cylinder??
Damion Reyes no this is the 3.5 v6

you can also get from AZ from this road and also get to state line CA from this road

Is it 4 or 6 cylinder?
v6
Ima get one like that 2wd is fine . I’m not going to be a serious off road just light trails to have fun
Is this 4cylinder or V6?
ian vistan this is the 3.5 V6
Could a 4 cylinder handle off roading?
The 2.7 is gunna be a little lighter and they are bullet proof however if you weight it down and add things you might as well get 3.5l
