Mauy Thai fighters make nothing boss! Greeting from the money team in Las Vegas it’s disgusting because I love this sport and I have played it but this thing is don’t expect to make a lot of money with it it’s sad but it is the reality of the situation someway Thai fighters don’t even get paid at all can you believe that? I remember a Thai fighter who fought in K1 saying the following in an interview: “It’s the first time I’ve received so much respect on the street while doing martial arts.” I wish great warriors got more respect and money.
I lived in Thailand 5 years. They are the most humble and caring trainers you’ll meet anywhere in the world. Their skill FAR exceeds their pay, both as fighter and athlete. I wish the sport got the attention and money it deserved.
Are you talking about a particular gym? They took a bigger cut then they should have on my first fight and i didnt know that something was wrong. Maybe most are nice, but still don’t he to naive sometimes shady stuff is going on.
It’s great that you are making these videos Tony. I started with Muay Thai for many years before focusing on just boxing. These great souls deserve so much respect and recognition.
They are warriors from childhood. They should be paid more. I must admit that in the past Muay Thai was not as famous as it is now. Therefore, the amount of money is not the same as at present. I respect them so much .Thank you for this content.
To get paid more, they need more ppl that watch and pay the fight just like boxing. the problem ppl wont pay for that fights. Even muay thai today that is more famous, moany ppl still dont want pay more for the fights
ONE FC has opened a door for Muay Thia fighters to make decent money, just like UFC has opened doors for wrestler a chance to make money after college.
Something very heartwarming about this video.. These lads sound very humble, their smiles and the kindness in their eyes are captivating.. they all had crazy number of fights and experience and they don’t seem arrogant at all.. great video
The biggest takeaway I got is that all these warriors did what they had to do to suffer, quite literally fight for their lives, and ultimately provide a paycheck for their family, so much respect!
For the fight gurus in Thailand, Thai fighters in the stadium circuit who make upwards of 100K THB per fight is considered a rich fighter. That's why they try take their talents overseas and fight in kickboxing/K-1 where there's more money to be made. It's mind-blowing.
All interviewed trainers seem like very humble guys, they experienced a lot during their fights. It's crazy to think about that they destroy parts of their body, for the entertainment of others. Apart from that, Muay Thai is a great sport, where you need to be mentally strong. This they learn by a young age. Huge respect to those guys 🙏 Great Interview!
They don't do it for the entertainment of others though, it was their only shot in life to make some money for the them and their family. People who do it for the entertainment of others are not to be found in Thailand, they simply do it because they don't have any other choice
@@nermin93 you did get me wrong. For sure they are doing it to earn money and feed their families. But why do they get money? because other people pay to watch it (that's called entertainment). It's not the entertainment for the fighters but the people who pay for it
These guys would make a crazy amount of money in the US because there are not many Muay Thai trainers. People are traveling to their country for a reason. MMA gyms are charging $200 monthly. If they open their own gym people will show up for sure
Friend of mine went to Thailand to fight in Muay Thai. The local fighters said to him “why are you here fighting?”. “You’re from the West, you’re rich you don’t have to fight. We fight to live to eat to survive. If you don’t need to fight why are you here”? Makes you think.
Wow being such a strong and skillfull fighters they are kind and humble & Lov it when they said i give money to my mama😊 when tony asked how you spend it so sweet and responsible from such a young age🤗
Theyre amazing but it's less sweet when you realize that these kids are giving their winnings to their family because their family is counting on them to feed them. Its not like these kids are fighting for fun, they don't really get a childhood.
@@bedp No mate that's where you're wrong. They do fight for fun, it's their tradition, their national sport, they're pride ! Their parents most have jobs so they don't rely on the little money kids make plus when all these former fighters were kids it was a long time ago not now... now fighters are payed better.
@@alinvid6098 They are right - parents quite literally sent their children to fight to make money for the family. Muay Thai was a way out of poverty for many people. It is tradition, but especially back then some children were the sole breadwinners of the family. Even 100 baht back then was worth quite a lot.
This is very good and informative. Thank you, Tony, for another solid videos and still continue to practice boxing with your vids till this very day. Be safe!!
The Thai's are the most humble warriors to work with in their art. Once you learn from them, they see it as a sign of respect of their art and culture. These guys devote themselves because it's all they know and their love to the art. We as westerners are ungrateful and come to their country and learn from them and take advantage of their art and system for our own benefit.
This guys are real warriors and soldiers they fight for their famiy and proud,,I wish them all the big money in the world they always have positive atitude and energy and helpfull I have lots of respect for them. Ofcourse they never earned enough ,fighting starting @ 6 years old diciplne , hard training, injuries some of them have more than 250 fights..... Here in the Netherlands we have Rico Verhoeven he only fights once every 2 years and he is a multi milionair in euros.
ONE FC has opened a door for Muay Thai fighters to make decent money, just like UFC has opened doors for wrestlers a chance to make money after college.
It seems that in Thailand it's pretty normal for boys to go into Muai Thai, just as here they get into their local soccer club. Whereas here, predominantly older guys with pre existing aggression management problems to into combat sports. And that shows in the culture where there is no rivalry between the athletes outside the ring and they have perfectly friendly, polite manners with each other.
This was a super interesting video idea Tony and the questions ypu picked were very interesting aswell 👍 But damn ellbows to the head for 6 year olds is hard Edit: alsoappear to be very humble and nice people
Yea i was thinking the same. I'm glad they can make a decent living. And they work around 3 hours a day 6 days a week (without private sessions for which they get more money).
Thai culture is interesting, they start off young as prize fighters. In the west to become a professional boxer you have to be at least 18, although in MMA there was a 17 year old competing in the UFC, but that is very rare.
Yeah the pays for the fights are not so high considering if you need to pay extra stuff during fight camp to prep better, minus all those costs, it's pretty much living dirt poor but doing what you love and I think this is the case for pretty much every single Nak Muay, it's for the love of the art and nothing else, Sabbai Sabbai. Of course there are exceptions to this rule if you're relatively famous, but that usually happens only if you're extremely dominant champion with many title defences and well promoted social media, like for example Saenchai, Superbon, Buakaw, Samart, Nong-O, etc. and most of their pay doesn't come from the fight purses, it's the social media, and the sponsor deals within it, plus ads.
I got paid $50 to $150 USD fighting in Tijuana, Mexico in the 90s. I looked at it as a dangerous hobby that sort of paid for itself. Sadly, Muay Thai money in the US still sucks 30 years later, and you are lucky to even find a pro fight these days in the US.
Unfortunately I too have been to Thailand and studied it Mauy Thai fighters get nothing. You get injuries all the time and you get paid peanuts it is what it is that’s why I always recommend people to go into boxing 15,405 would probably be what a top level fighter would make sadly most fighters make about $1500-$2000 a fight which is really nothing
you gotta understand that 250 bucks over there is very much, you can get a medium sized apartment for under 100 dollars/month. the average monthly money thai people earn is 430 usd
After I left the British Army (Iraq ,Afghanistan,Bosnia)I relocated to Thailand and lived and trained there for 5years,it was cheap, food was great and the people amazingly kind and physically tough. If anyone wants a truly tough body then eat, train, sleep Muay Thai for at least a year, makes army training look like a butlins holiday camp.😆🤣😂 If these guys don't win, they don't earn and there's many Thai women too that fight, they leave their kids with family in the provinces to fight and earn money, its a brutal life being poor in these countries.
Its important to mention that those were different times. There is about 2% inflation a year (the government tells but the real inflation is over 3%). So a 1000 dollar 20 years ago is worth double, 40 years ago is like over 5000 dollar today.
Thai fighters are warriors. If they would transition to boxing they would make more money. However, this sport is deeply embedded in their culture passed down through generations
We must take into consideration that the Thai medical system isn't as advanced as that of the Western world, therefore those injuries probably still linger to this day. Respect to these warriors.
