  • Wacky Races (1991) by Atlus is a rather simple platform game that is currently one of the most expensive games on the system. The prices are literally mind-boggling, as it is overall one of the rarest games on the Nes. Is the game worth it ? In my opinion, no game is worth it no matter how old it is :P But back to the point. Wacky races is a game based on an animation released by the once great Hanna-Barbera label, known for such hits as “Scooby-Doo!”. In the game we play the role of the dog Muttley, the peculiar and not necessarily faithful companion of the driver Dick Dastardly. And our task will be to support Dick's “whims” through three short episodes , which are probably modeled, at least from the plot side, on real episodes of the series Wacky Races. Each episode is in fact a separate story, and their order of completion is left in the hands of the player. Does the game stand out from the competition? Well, neither graphically nor musically is it a masterpiece, but at best an average product, as there were many prettier and better-sounding games released in 91. Gameplay-wise it's good, as the controls are responsive and amazingly precise. There's really nothing to complain about here. The difficulty level here is so low that you really have to make an effort to see the Game Over sign ..... if, of course, there is one at all :D After playing the game, however, you feel unsatisfied, because there is really nothing else related to vehicles apart from fighting bosses. Surprisingly, the developers didn't come up with the idea that each location should be accompanied by a mini-game in which we drive a vehicle to its destination, or any other game actually involving driving. Definitely an untapped potential of the license . And why the game is so expensive ???? Personally I don't know, but I'm guessing that just the Wacky Races brand itself was not very fresh when the game was released. after all, it's based on an animation from 1968 :P So probably not many kids knew about it. So it was probably released and sold in a small run, hence the prices. Of course, I could be wrong, so let everyone approach this with a grain of salt. In general, the game is decent, you can play it freely, but do not buy it, because for this price you can buy many other and better games.

Yes That's one of my biggest criticism about this game. There should be at least bonus lv. Where we drive a car.

I played the Amiga version of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series -
and it was absolutely hard and frustrating 😹!
The NES version of this game looks much better 😹😺👍🕹️.

@@ArttuTheCat Another example of my ignorance about Amiga games. Never heard of Wacky Races on Amiga..... But from what I saw in the video, it's not a very fun experience. Without music, this game looks oddly, poorly, to say the least. Here, on the other hand, you have a comforting platformer that even a child shouldn't have much trouble with. Only getting a physical copy at a reasonable price is virtually impossible..... Well, unless you have a lot of money to spare :p
