Dear Nathaniel, Roughly a year and a half ago, I was a lost and scared teenager, bearing the pressures of school, family and my future. I didn’t know where I was supposed to go. I was a freshly polished and delicate vessel headed through a sea of fog. I had sent an email to you asking for advice on finding clarity in my future, and you replied. Your words on living life as though you are experimenting with it, had stuck with me from that day onwards. Despite a difficult year, my high school life is coming to an end in a few months, but because of your inspiring work and wisdom, I have a direction. I have strength and a raw passion and curiosity for life. You have changed my life more than you realise. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
I read that someone’s therapist told them “you don’t have to be hopeful about life, or the future, it’s enough to be curious about it” I think that’s really helpful also if you feel down in life
Thats a positive outlook. However, I cant muster up curiosity let alone hope or interest because I know the likelihood of what my future will bring and its not good. Its hard to be curious about misery.
@nyctophil if you are concerned with being interesting, that says to me you require validation from others. If one is truly content with oneself, one need not show his worth. He knows his worth.

Curiosity is so important! I read about it a few months a go and it really changed my overall mindset. I find it hard to explain, but I guess it has just changed me from being more judgmental (of myself and others) and doing things from habit, to being curious and introspective, which leads to a way more positive outcome and a lot of room to grow
hey nathaniel thank you for making these videos and being yourself and caring about other people. you're different than most people in an amazing way. i've been going through a rough part of my life where i'm completely uninspired and unmotivated to do anything and it sucks because a year ago i was killing it and on top of the world, anyways i bet you're not going to see this but thank you- you've reignited something in me that i've been trying to find. seriously you and your videos mean a lot to me thank you
When I was young, my ignorance was my happiness. At age 50, it's the knowledge of people and the world I've acquired that has killed the joy and intrigue
The moment when you start to be curious about your own life, and yourself is the moment that will completely change you. Whole my life I've been comparing myself to others. I've always been interested more in others lives than in my. Why? Because I was so unhappy that I was so scared to deal with it. I escaped in social networks, in smoking, in doing things that effected my soul and my body. The biggest twist happened when my phone has been stolen. I had plenty of time, and I didn't know what to do. I had to be present in my life because I didn't have where to escape. That is the moment when I got face to face with my reason of being unhappy. So I started to question myself why. After so many q's and possible a's, I found the answer. (And that is not escaping or ignoring the problem. I found the way to cross it and solve it. First step is to accept the problem, and then deal with it.) Ps. I am bad at English.
dude you NAILED IT! I've been thinking this same thing lately. Stoic philosophy coupled with intentionally detaching from media (dopamine detoxes, etc.) has been changing my life. I am fascinated again for this first time in forever, because I'm not constantly consuming, and my mind is able to produce novel ideas.
Your videos usually seem to spark a positive feeling in me when I need it. That spark pulls me from a “stuck” place, which could be boredom or something darker. Thanks!
Hey Nathaniel! I've been following these principals man and I just wanted to say you're the reason why I started TH-cam. I really appreciate you and love to see your content during these times.
The more videos I see of you, the more I want to just go to you and have a good conversation and experience something toguether. Time, place, people, emotions, ideas. Bless you man!!! 🙏🏾🧡🌻
I related with what you said in the beginning so so much! I think life ends when one stops asking questions and stops learning, growing, that is what truly makes us old, not the number of our age. My grandpa is over 70 but still working, still learning, still DREAMING of what he will do. I believe it's harder for life to take him away because he has so much to live for and a WILL to keep going and growing.
This was exactly what I needed to hear today. Thank you for making this. I have been working on a piece on fear and how my biggest fear is never changing and being satisfied with my surroundings. Satisfied, not content. I am content and fulfilled by life but am unsatisfied and want to know more and grow and change. And that stems from curiosity. Making life an experimentation, and making the failures more accessible.
There is famous quote in my language which is Bengali, that says curiosity is what opens our mind and key to all answers and is a primary job of a human. In our childhood always wondered at those lines, thought how beautiful it is to curious. I am again reminded of that. Curiosity makes me who I am.
'3 seconds ago' I clicked on this video as soon as it appeared out of curiosity. This is the earliest I've been to a TH-cam video and I found it very enlightening. Thank you for creating wonderful content during these hard times and keep up the good work, Nathaniel!
Yeeeeees!! To look at the world with wonder and awe and curiousity, to treat like as a playful EXPERIMENT! I love the quote by Danny Kaye, “Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can.” I live my life by this and talk about these concepts on my channel as well. So important! :)
Thank you for making the videos you make and talking about the things you talk about. It makes my mind feel better and me less alone. Sending good vibes your way!

We’re here to grow, to learn, to question things and to be curious. This video made my day. Nothing can top this today. Bye bye internet! My phone time is over! 👋
Ok but can we just appreciate those amazing clips taken with your cool swirly lens haha I can’t remember exactly what you called it but it’s just takes your work to a whole other level! 🙌

I appreciate a lot how you talk about enjoying the little things in life that are often forgotten. It is with your impressive sense of humility that you explore the world around us in a "series of experiments" in yet another great video... Thank you Nathaniel !
I experience this when deciding on a purpose for my life. I let outside definitions of "noble" or "worthwhile" get into my head. What is most noble or will contribute most to society? The truth is almost anything can be noble and worthwhile. Your individual life is defined by you and what gives your life meaning. The space to be curious about that is crucial as you mention and without your individual curious pursuit into your purpose, the world misses out on something. Refreshing video--thank you.
I needed this. So badly. I don’t know how you do it, but you always seem to create a video that I need to watch and carefully listen to for the betterment of my life, or mental health. Thank you.
I actually thought it was intentional, like a part of what he meant with his message. If otherwise, It quite filled the video with an unintentional glitch that can be viewed just as part of it
You are a really nice young man Nathaniel, you are inspiring many others and sharing your journey. We are all unique and in my life it is obvious that peace of mind is my greatest accomplishment. There is art to being lazy, there is art to being alone, there is art in simplicity. This pandemic has taught me not to let fear in to my head. I love your channel. “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” - Albert Einstein.
Thank you Nathaniel for inspiring all of us through your videos. ❤
I love that quote
He is amazing!!
There's something about watching your videos that really inspires me about the possibilities of life.
I’m from the UK and it never ceases to amaze me how it’s still light after 10pm during summer
The quality of your content and your skills in delivering a story is honestly incredibly pleasing and time-worthy to watch.
I simply learn something new every time watching your videos. Keep it up brother
same here :)
This video was really what I needed
I will be re-watch ing it again for few more times to apply them in my corner of the world .
You know how much of a Procastinatinator I am and how many time I skip past your video in my youtube feed but they always comes back to me when i am feeling down/sloth/disappointed/despair ...
But they always hit my points and try to inspire me to find more creativity/meaning in life.
When it's come to.. filming and storytelling noOne can beat Nathaniel
Congratulations on a million! Im proud to say ive been here for a while

I just can't stop telling thank you for sharing your thoughts with such a great audience, keep going, we really appreciate you
We should be curious all the time, in order to learn about the world around us and to expand our way of thinking. Great thoughts! 😊
Aside from your message, love the lens you used for that radially blurred footage
Nathaniel, you speak directly to my subconscious. We think the same but you make me think deeper. I love it. Thank you.
I love your work, man. You have a way of thinking that I just don't see in a lot of people.
So true. He is an inspiration for a LOT of people 🙏

hey nathaniel thank you for making these videos and being yourself and caring about other people. you're different than most people in an amazing way. i've been going through a rough part of my life where i'm completely uninspired and unmotivated to do anything and it sucks because a year ago i was killing it and on top of the world, anyways i bet you're not going to see this but thank you- you've reignited something in me that i've been trying to find. seriously you and your videos mean a lot to me thank you
"I think curiosity is what makes life worth living" That's it!! That is ittttt!! Thank you!!
When I was young, my ignorance was my happiness. At age 50, it's the knowledge of people and the world I've acquired that has killed the joy and intrigue
Incredibly thought provoking. This is a piece of art ♥️
There is something healing about the way you thinking and talk. I am going through a tough day.
First step is to accept the problem, and then deal with it.)
Ps. I am bad at English.
So true. I guess it was a helping hand that your phone was stolen. I blessing in disguise :)
dude you NAILED IT!
Damn beard on point man I’m jealous 😂
The more videos I see of you, the more I want to just go to you and have a good conversation and experience something toguether. Time, place, people, emotions, ideas. Bless you man!!! 🙏🏾🧡🌻
The "space" animation was so cool
I related with what you said in the beginning so so much! I think life ends when one stops asking questions and stops learning, growing, that is what truly makes us old, not the number of our age. My grandpa is over 70 but still working, still learning, still DREAMING of what he will do. I believe it's harder for life to take him away because he has so much to live for and a WILL to keep going and growing.
6:49 Gandhi's autobiography is also titled "The Story of My Experiments with Truth".
"If you are curious enough for something, you'll find a way"
Powerful quote :D
There is famous quote in my language which is Bengali, that says curiosity is what opens our mind and key to all answers and is a primary job of a human. In our childhood always wondered at those lines, thought how beautiful it is to curious. I am again reminded of that. Curiosity makes me who I am.
"One of the things that make humans is curiosity."
Don't waste this superpower!!
I clicked on this video as soon as it appeared out of curiosity.
Love your work, thank you for so eloquently articulating what so many of us feel
Curiosity let’s is grow. We should all embrace it 😊❤️
Thank you for making the videos you make and talking about the things you talk about. It makes my mind feel better and me less alone. Sending good vibes your way!
Wasn't expecting the "is mayonnaise an instrument?" Question 😂
right??? lmaoooo
I'm tempted to google it. 😂
It’s a guitar brand :)
@@Limemill oohh that explains a lot 😂
AksLeMec it’s spelled Mayones, though, but sounds the same
I work in Research for my job and have never thought to take my mindset of curiosity outside the office, into my whole life. It's an amazing idea and I love the way you see the world, thank you for sharing this truly exciting perspective!
The first vedieo on the recommendation of my homepage.
Reham Shouman TH-cam can see into your soul.....!!🤣
🤯 You feed my curiosity with every video. Because of you I’ve listened to countless audiobooks about kindness, social psychology and Buddhism, I also started meditation and cold(er) showers... Thank you for being the link that connects us all in this crazy pandemic and showing a bit of light in this crazy path that we get to walk on. I’m so glad I didn’t just discovered you now. I love seeing you grow as a person and as a content maker. I love it that I’m able to share this with this “fan base” (or whatever you wanna call us) that you’re creating. That’s why we’re here. We’re here to grow, to learn, to question things and to be curious. This video made my day. Nothing can top this today. Bye bye internet! My phone time is over! 👋
3:40 when he said" we don't have a history of treating each other well"I felt it !!
Man your content is so beautiful. The brightest light on the internet for me right now.
Ok but can we just appreciate those amazing clips taken with your cool swirly lens haha I can’t remember exactly what you called it but it’s just takes your work to a whole other level! 🙌
Anna K I haven‘t heard him mention the lens in a video but it looks to me like he‘s using a „Helios 44M 58/f2“
He’s talked about it on his ig before, he’s said it’s some sort of vintage lens - I wish I could remember the name of it
Congratulations on one million. Clearly, so well deserved. You're one of my favorite TH-camrs.
Nathan, GREAT CONTENT!!! You're an amazing INSPIRATION for my new TH-cam Channel that I started after I lost by job during the pandemic. Congrats on all of the success, and to everyone else...NEVER GIVE UP!!!
Hell yeah man! Sorry to hear about ur job, but I’m glad that u keep on going and never giving up 🙏
@@MindNow Thank you, it's not easy...but I really appreciate it! Making the most of this situation.
I appreciate a lot how you talk about enjoying the little things in life that are often forgotten. It is with your impressive sense of humility that you explore the world around us in a "series of experiments" in yet another great video... Thank you Nathaniel !
The first shot made me think of the movie Inception , those kids seemed like his children!
This video leaves one big question for me: Where in hell have your glasses gone?🤔
The thumbnail 😂
😀😁😂
@@marymutunga2933 yeah maybe he forgot them there😂
I needed this.
So badly.
I don’t know how you do it, but you always seem to create a video that I need to watch and carefully listen to for the betterment of my life, or mental health. Thank you.
Hey Nathaniel at 3:10 there’s a glitch I guess it’s caused by the Adobe Premiere Pro exporting problem I experienced it as well. Just to let you know.
I actually thought it was intentional, like a part of what he meant with his message. If otherwise, It quite filled the video with an unintentional glitch that can be viewed just as part of it
@@anandatorquato Agreed! I thought the same!
Well like Bob Ross said: “There are no mistakes only happy accidents” ☺️
Jesus is there a glitch in there? that seemed smooth and intentional
@@ChasingObstacles Haha, good point! :D
Your hair is great in this video as well.
"I'm currently on a very interesting assignment called 'Being Nathaniel'" Nathaniel Drew. He touches on the importance of being curious about ourselves, which I think is very thought provoking.
He just talk what you want to hear. Be yourself it will be much beneficial
@@x99999x That's what Nathaniel is saying he is doing the Being Nathaniel experiment and Sara will do the Being Sara. You will do the being 9999 experiment and I will do the being Eyoel Experiment. We'll know about ourselves that way.
I’ve loved seeing your evolution from D’Avella style productivity/optimisation obsessive to someone more positive, compassionate, and humane. You are doing a lot to dispel a lot of the toxicity and macho attitudes that surrounds self-help!
I’m curious how I always end up coming to a Nathaniel Drew video so early and still haven’t gotten a heart from Nathan, it would be nice one day ❤️
desperation for validation
I find it interesting how much we feel pressured to be individualistic and personally I think we find joy in being unique. However, videos such as this make you realize were really not all that different.
I find curiousity as both the cause to suicide or the only reason to not commit suicide.
My curiosity of life has outweighed my curiosity of death.
What kind of things are you curious about?
Sometimes I watch his videos and catch myself thinking that I don't even understand what he's saying haha like there's so much words that supposed to mean something, but in the end sounds like Nathaniel has just been kinda lonely and needs to say whatever it is in his head even tho it doesn't make sense
I was literally thinking the same thing. Some of it goes over my head even if I’m listening intently 😶
I feel the same. I believe the more we listen and expose ourselves to content like this, we will gradually begin to understand more.
there's nothing wrong with rewatching too :)
Exactly. One moment I thought: "Isn't he just trying to say that he likes being in Paris in summer?"
Lmao hey guys, I used to be the same. In fact I still find myself overwhelmed with a lot of philosophical dialect- whether internal or external (such as this video). The key is honestly to read widely, learn vocabulary whenever you come across new words (trust me it’s such an underrated thing!) and finally, once you start contemplating as such, you’ll realise you understand every word
Your words put a smile on my face. I will be coming back to this again and again. Thank you Nathaniel 🙏❤️
